Political opponents are less enemies than rivals; disagreement isn’t disaster.

Authoritarian populists like Donald Trump authoritarian globalists like Biden* win by attacking this foundational democratic norm.

They demonize their opponents, arguing repeatedly that their opponents are not rivals but rather monsters bent on the country’s destruction. They claim that the system is in the enemy’s corrupt hands and not to be trusted, that their faction and our leader deserve absolute power (“I alone can fix it,” as Trump said in 2016). The nefarious plans of the domestic enemy must be resisted by any means necessary, even ones that might seem extreme.

Let's see.
It was the deep state, partnered with complicit media, that gaslit the entire nation for years about TRUMP!RUSSIA!COLLUSION!

And the deep state that created a killer virus and then imposed ridiculous policies on entire populations.

It was the DNC partnered with complicit media who fostered, excused, and appeased violent BLM/ ANTIFA rioters whose aim was to "defund the police", creating criminal hellholes where cities used to be.

It was the deep state, partnered with the DNC and complicit social media, who attempted to scrub every bit of free speech, discussion, or disagreement from the internet.

Deep state, complicit social media, and the DNC who imposed "wokeness" on everyone, divided the nation on race and sex, imposed openly racist and sexist policies and privileges, thru a combination of censorship, libel (Kyle Rittenhouse, Covington studenst) "cancel culture", institutional policies, and violence.

Shall I go on?

It was the deep state, partnered with complicit media and the DNC, who demonizes anyone who disagrees with them, calling them "Putin puppets", "existential threats to democracy", "insurrectionists" etc and who seek laws jail anyone who disagrees with them.

Deep state, DNC, and complicit media who armed and aimed Ukraine at Russia, seeking to destoy it, which has cost us at least a trillion dollars in pursuit of their obssession.

DNC who belives in verification-free voting, open to all kinds of potential cheating..

Everything... EVERYTHING... that you* accuse Trump of doing, you* have done, in spades. Of course, you will never acknowledge your crimes, much less take responsibility for them. But you* should be brought up on charges.

More proof that Trump is a stupid asshole (Russiagate litigation):

A London judge, who threw out the case against Orbis Business Intelligence last month saying it was “bound to fail,” ordered Trump to pay legal fees of 300,000 pounds ($382,000), according to court documents released Thursday.

Sure, $382,000 is peanuts compared to Trump's other legal judgments, but every little bit hurts.

Trump had sued Orbis over the infamous "Steele dossier," but his case was tossed after a single day of hearings, much like a related lawsuit failed in the US. That previous case cost him $1 million, so he's now up to $1.4 million in penalties for wasting court time on obviously flimsy Russiagate lawsuits.

Why is Donald Trump suddenly a TikTok fan? Bribery Money.

A brief history of Donald Trump and TikTok:

July 31, 2020: “As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States.”

March 1, 2024: Trump noted that Republican mega-donor and Club for Growth benefactor Jeff Yass...whom Trump described as “fantastic”...

March 7, 2024: “If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck will double their business. I don’t want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better.”

Trump's reversal on TikTok makes sense if you know that Jeff Yass is a mega-billionaire who made his fortune as an early investor in TikTok. He is the single largest donor in the current election cycle and, as Politico noted, "would potentially be a major financial boost to his campaign" if Trump won him over.

Democrats have a lot to be proud of! Here's a collection of changes over the past decade in the condition of the poor:

There's been good progress almost everywhere. The only real dim spots (red bars) are in housing. This progress, needless to say, is due entirely to Democrats, and they should be blowing their own horns about it more.

Chart of the day: Net new jobs in February

The American economy gained 275,000 jobs last month. We need 90,000 new jobs just to keep up with population growth, which means that net job growth clocked in at 185,000 jobs. The headline unemployment rate increased to 3.9%.

The number of unemployed went up 334,000, and the number of new jobs in December and January were both revised downward. Put this all together and the jobs report is good but not great—which, ironically, might be "perfect." It's more evidence for a soft landing.

Wages were up 5.4% from January on an annualized basis. Adjusted for inflation, that's about a 1.7% increase. This is good for workers, but maybe not so good for inflation.

Wages were up 3.7% from a year ago. Adjusted for inflation that's growth of 0.6%.

Trump’s White House Was ‘Awash in Speed’

Under Trump, the White House Medical Unit was “like the Wild West,” and staffers had easy access to powerful stimulants and sedatives

Four former senior administration officials and others with knowledge of the matter say that samples of the stimulant were passed around for those contributing lines to major Trump speeches, working late hours on foreign policy initiatives, responding to Mueller’s investigation, and much more. It wasn’t just speed, according to the report.

If you ever looked at the actions of the Trump White House and wondered, ‘Are they on drugs?’ — the answer was, in some cases, yes. Absolutely, yes.

Donald Trump Just Enraged Republicans With One Post About Covid Vaccines

By Nick Mordowanec | Mar 09, 2024 at 7:36 AM EST

"The amount of anger I have over this can't be quantified in words," Tracy Beanz, editor-in-chief of UncoverDC, wrote on Friday.

"Almost everything that makes you angry about the authoritarian government response to the pandemic started with the Trump administration," wrote commentator Matt Kibbe. "Reminder: Biden simply doubled down on the same policies."

Rumble personality Ryan Matta wrote that it was a valid reason not to purchase any more "MAGA gear," adding: "realDonaldTrump will be wearing pfizer hat at his next rally! WTF is wrong with this man? Who the F*** would say this s***! We all have friends family and children we know who were murdered by these vaccines! Y'all need to have a come-to-Jesus moment with this man REAL QUICK! GOSH DAMN THIS MAKE MY BLOOD BOIL and I'd take a bullet for Trump!"

It wasn't just conservatives who slammed Trump for touting vaccines.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., an independent candidate running for president who has also been described by some as anti-vaccine due to his skepticism of the efficacy of such drugs, criticized Trump's post.

"Donald Trump clearly hasn't learned from his Covid era mistakes," he wrote on X. "He fails to recognize how ineffective his warp speed vaccine is as the ninth shot is being recommended to seniors. Even more troubling is the documented harm being caused by the shot to so many innocent children and adults who are suffering myocarditis, pericarditis and brain inflammation."

OH FUCK YOU.

You motherfuckers came out of the woodwork saying that you wouldn't even touch a vaccine that was approved under the Trump administration, but as soon as Biden* was President you tried using a Nixon Era OSHA rule to mandate that everybody get a shot and tried ruining anybody's life who didn't comply.

You want me to dig up videos of all of the Democrat politicians and Leftist media saying they weren't going to take the vaccine while Trump was still President?

Described by "some"?

You mean by you, Newsweek?

Newsweek (October 6th, 2020): Anti-Vaxxers Feed Off Democrats' Skepticism of COVID Vaccine

https://www.newsweek.com/anti-vaccine-covid-trust-skepticism-democrat-
politicization-1535559

Quote:

Democratic politicians raising concerns about how quickly coronavirus vaccines could be rolled out to the public appear to be bolstering anti-vax groups. By highlighting issues around the vaccine development process, politicians on the left may be inadvertently increasing skepticism among the wider public.

"I think it's the visibility," Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Newsweek. "[There's] more eyeballs on the process than has ever occurred in the past. Vaccine development in the past has been very obscure. There has not been much transparency and the first time people hear about vaccines is when the CDC recommends them.

"This time because of the pandemic and because there's a lot of people for the first time saying we may be forced to take this, that a lot more people are looking at it. People for the first time are seeing how the sausage gets made."

Kennedy, a lawyer and prominent anti-vaccine activist, said that around the middle of August—when the Trump administration began suggesting a vaccine may be ready before the November 3 election—Democratic leaders started voicing skepticism about the development process for the first time. And concerns about the speed at which vaccines are being developed, and the potential for their release via Emergency Use Authorization (EUA,) have now been raised by many political leaders.

Uh huh...

Quote:

On September 24, New York governor Andrew Cuomo said the state will independently review all vaccines authorized by the federal government. "Frankly, I'm not going to trust the federal government's opinion and I wouldn't recommend to New Yorkers based on the federal government's opinion," he said in a statement.

It wasn't a problem at all when Joe Biden* was President though. Odd...

Quote:

At the start of September, Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris said she would not trust President Donald Trump's word alone that any vaccine developed is safe and efficient.

A week later, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden made similar remarks during a speech in Delaware, saying, "I trust vaccines, I trust scientists, but I don't trust Donald Trump."

Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi, Democratic speaker of the United States House of Representatives, has said any vaccine must meet safety standards before being released if it is to be accepted by the public.

"Unless there is confidence that the vaccine has gone through the clinical trials, and then is approved by the independent scientific advisory committee, as established to do just this, there will be doubts that people will have."

According to a survey from the Pew Research Center carried out between September 8 and 13, half of U.S. adults now say they probably or definitely would not get a vaccine to prevent COVID-19, if it were available today.

While vaccine skepticism was still higher among Republicans—as it has been historically—there was a marked increase among Democrats. In May, 50 percent said they would "definitely" get the vaccine. By September, this had fallen to 24 percent.

Funny how all you lemmings fell right in line once the election of 2020 was over.

Quote:

"There is undeniably a lot more skepticism about vaccines," Kennedy said. "It's gone from maybe 5 to 10 percent to up to 50 percent range. I think it's a good thing people are watching [the vaccine development process]."

In a Facebook post, Texans For Vaccine Choice founder Jackie Schlegel also said there had been a surge in support from both political sides. She said the aim of the group was to promote vaccine choice and informed consent, rather than stop people getting vaccinated.

Shlegel told Newsweek there had been a six-fold increase in membership since the start of the pandemic, with parents concerned at the potential of another vaccine being mandated—especially one that is being rushed.

"What's uniting many people are concerns that this potentially fast-tracked, liability-free vaccine will be mandated to return to normal life," she said. "Having top Democrat leaders raise these questions has given an even greater voice to the concerns shared by many who believe in sound science, safe vaccines, and industry accountability."

Discussing people's concerns—and what could be done to alleviate them—Schlegel said the industry must be transparent in its processes and encourage the public to make informed medical decisions with their health providers.

"Censorship of the conversation, mainly condemning voices that even ask questions about a potential vaccination, in concert with ever-changing recommendations from government entities only deepen the concerns from many Americans," she said. "The doctor-patient relationship must come first, and a quick-to-market vaccine must not be mandated for anyone."

And mandated it was. By Democrats.

And all the while there was ultimately ZERO transparency and rampant censorship across the board once Joe Biden* took office. Including CIA agents working in top spots at Twitter and Google enforcing the censorship and shadow bans.

Get fucked, and keep taking those boosters, mudbloods.

Donald Trump's Post Angers Alex Jones

By James Bickerton | Mar 09, 2024 at 11:56 AM EST

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-post-angers-alex-jones-1877581

Alex Jones has accused Donald Trump of spreading "bull s***" after the former president said he got coronavirus vaccines approved for the public in just nine months.

Jones, who has spoken out repeatedly in support of Trump, labeled COVID-19 vaccines "a biological weapon". "I love Trump but this is bull s***! The so called vaccine is a biological weapon! Good news is people are awake and not even 45 can sell it."

Trump look credit for the vaccines' rapid approval, commenting: "YOU'RE WELCOME, JOE, NINE MONTH APPROVAL TIME VS. 12 YEARS THAT IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN YOU!"

Trump's post sparked an angry response from a number of commentators who have promoted theories about the coronavirus vaccines.

Conservative podcaster Tracy Beanz screenshotted Trump's Truth Social post, adding: "The amount of anger I have over this can't be quantified in words."

In December 2021, Trump was booed by part of a crowd that had come to see him in Houston, Texas, after saying he had received a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot, as well as the original jab.

For this GOP Senator, US policies are Putin’s red-lines:

Senator Mike Lee, a Utah Republican, issued a stern warning to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in an opinion piece published by The American Conservative on Saturday. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/nato-can-have-ukraine-or-the-u
sa-not-both
/

"If Ukraine is in NATO, the United States should be out, plain and simple. We must draw a redline with NATO: You can have Ukraine or the United States," Lee wrote.

"[Vladimir] Putin continues to warn us that Ukraine in NATO could be the match that sparks WWIII. As a constitutional realist, it seems to me that when the enemy gives us a clear warning, we should act with a degree of prudence, not double down without a second thought simply to anger the bad guy," Lee wrote on Saturday. "If we are serious about preserving U.S. hegemony, at no point can our nation be forced by a dependent Europe to accept the risk of nuclear escalation."

In his opinion piece, Lee contended that Russia's invasion was due in large part to the possible NATO expansion for both Ukraine and Georgia, which the senator called "a red-line that Putin drew as far back as 2008."

"Rather than taking such warnings seriously, the U.S. and European capitals continued to beat the drum of expansion by touting the foolish desires of the 'rules-based international order' above realism. Just because we say it does not make it so in the eyes of the Kremlin," Lee wrote.

Bumper sticker version of present-day GOP politics: Better Red Than Dead. Once upon a time, that would have been anathema but not now for Trump-aligned politicians who fear upsetting either Putin's or Trump's policy to Make Russia Great Again. MRGA or MAGA, it is all the same motivation.

The Trump campaign paid an expert $750,000 to find fraud in the 2020 election

By Katherine Tangalakis-Lippert | Mar 10, 2024, 7:01 PM CDT

https://www.businessinsider.com/ken-block-disproven-book-trump-campaig
n-election-fraud-2024-3

A big business cropped up to help former President Donald Trump try to validate his claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.

Software engineer Ken Block told Business Insider ahead of the release of his forthcoming book "Disproven," that he was paid about $750,000 to conduct research that would verify the existence of mass voter fraud in swing states, including Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

Despite the massive payday, Block couldn't find any. He even disproved some of the claims of voter fraud within minutes, pointing to incomplete data that was wrongfully interpreted as fraudulent, that voters with the same name had been counted as duplicate votes, and that data for mail-in ballots had been wrongly flagged.

While Block said he wasn't pressured to misrepresent his findings, Trump's team didn't want to hear it when he brought them news the fraud couldn't be substantiated.

In one instance, Block confirmed that he proved one of the claims behind a Trump team lawsuit in Pennsylvania was wrong, which immediately ended the conference call he was on.

Representatives for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

All told, Block found fewer than 200 duplicate mail-in ballot votes had been fraudulently cast from all of the swing states combined, he wrote in a recent op-ed recounting his experience in AZ Central.

"Former President Trump has turned losing with grace into losing with disgrace," Block writes in his book. "He has spawned a group of losing candidates who would rather howl about voter fraud — without justification — than display the leadership qualities demanded by the positions for which they ran."

He continued: "Some of these failed candidates who make meritless accusations of voter fraud don't seem to understand their own claims. Others spurn factual accuracy. That's now how the fraud in swing states happened anyhow, so if they really spent 3/4 of a Million to find out information there they flushed it down the toilet.

The Democrats cheated the 2020 election via en mass unsolicited mail-in fraud ballots, had ballot harvesters sweep the streets and badger people into voting, took the ballots home and threw any that weren't for Joe Biden* in the fire pit, then stuffed the ballot boxes full of the Biden* votes.

It's great to know that only 200 duplicate ballots via cheating were found. Somebody should take that information and figure out how to make that zero. That number should always be zero.

Quote:

"Former President Trump has turned losing with grace into losing with disgrace," Block writes in his book. "He has spawned a group of losing candidates who would rather howl about voter fraud — without justification — than display the leadership qualities demanded by the positions for which they ran."

He continued: "Some of these failed candidates who make meritless accusations of voter fraud don't seem to understand their own claims. Others spurn factual accuracy. For these folks, the end goal has nothing to do with winning an election. It is about raising money or profile — or worse, about undermining our republic."

Oh come off it. Do I need to show you the collection of videos of Democrat politicians calling Trump's 2016 election fraudulent again? Hillary still says that 2016 was fraudulent to anybody who asks her going on 8 years later.

What she said does not mean the same as what you wrote, 6ix. Clinton compared her election loss to “applying for a job and getting 66 million letters of recommendation and losing to a corrupt human tornado. And so I know that he knows that this wasn’t on the level. I don’t know that we’ll ever know what happened.”

“No, it doesn’t kill me because he knows he’s an illegitimate president,” she said. “I believe he understands that the many varying tactics they used, from voter suppression and voter purging to hacking to the false stories — he knows that — there were just a bunch of different reasons why the election turned out like it did.”

She compared Trump’s latest effort to spread negative stories about Biden, who is leading in most polls to be the 2020 Democratic nominee, to what he did to her during their campaign.

“The most outrageously false things were said about me,” Clinton said. “And unfortunately, enough people believed them. So this is an effort to sow these falsehoods against Biden. And I don’t care if you’re for the [Democrats] or you’re a Republican, when the president of the United States, who has taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, uses his position to in effect extort a foreign government for his political purposes, I think that is very much what the founders worried about in high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Clinton also predicted Trump would lose in 2020 because “there were many funny things that happened in my election that will not happen again.”

Jimmy Carter said that in his view Trump lost the 2016 election and was put in office by the Russians. Asked if he considered Trump to be illegitimate, Carter said, “Based on what I just said, which I can’t retract.”

What about that other Republican President? He said, “In the weeks and months following the 9/11 attacks, I was proud to lead an amazing, resilient, united people. When it comes to the unity of America, those days seem distant from our own. A malign force seems at work in our common life that turns every disagreement into an argument, and every argument into a clash of cultures. So much of our politics has become a naked appeal to anger, fear and resentment. That leaves us worried about our nation and our future together.”

Bush didn’t say Trump’s name there. He didn’t have to. If you have been alive and living on Planet Earth for the last 5 or so years, you know exactly who Bush is talking about with those words.

The Liberal Patriot: The Nonwhite Working Class Bails Out on the Democrats

https://www.liberalpatriot.com/p/the-nonwhite-working-class-bails

Quote:

Cast your mind back to those heady days of 2012 when Barack Obama vanquished Mitt Romney and won a second term in the White House. In that election, Obama carried nonwhite working-class (noncollege) voters by a massive 67 points, while losing white college graduates by 7 points. That means Obama did 74 points better among the nonwhite working class than among white college graduates.

In the next two presidential elections, that differential steadily narrowed as Democrats did worse among nonwhite working-class voters even as they improved among white college graduates. In 2020, Biden carried the nonwhite working class by 48 points (19 points less than Obama did in 2012) while carrying white college graduates by 9 points (16 points better than Obama). That cut the Democrats’ positive differential between these two groups almost in half, down to 39 points.

Now it’s Biden running for a second term and, astonishingly, that positive differential may have entirely disappeared. According to the just-released New York Times/Siena poll, Biden is actually doing worse among the nonwhite working class, carrying them by a mere six points, than among white college graduates, where he enjoys a 15 point advantage over Trump. Amazing. There is perhaps no better illustration of the Democrats’ transformation into a Brahmin Left party, beloved by the educated but increasingly viewed with suspicion by the working classes of all races.

Yup.

They're only now learning what I was telling them 8 years ago.

Somebody, somehow seems to have flipped the Democrat and Republican parties on their head somewhere along the way between the GWB and Obama years and most folk didn't even seem to notice it happened.

... until now, maybe.

Biden right to say US economy is world’s strongest, Trump ally says

Rightwing economist Stephen Moore says ‘no question’ US has strongest economy in world – ‘and that’s important to cheer’

“Let me just say one thing positive about where we are right now,” Stephen Moore told Fox Business.

“One thing that Biden said last night was true. It is true that the United States today has the strongest economy. There is no question about it.

“If you look at what’s happening in Europe today, Germany, Britain, France, if you look at Japan and China, they’re not growing. And so it is true … the way I like to put it is we are the least rotten apple in the cart and that’s something that’s important to cheer.”

Going forward the two parties will be described as the Democratic and Independent parties. MEGAs' existence has given assurances that the Dems will dominate for a long time to come, as the rest try to put the pieces of what was the alternative to the Dems, together again.

Biden released the 2025 federal budget today
https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/budget_fy2025.pd
f

President Biden on Monday called for major new spending initiatives to lower costs for health care, child care and housing and enough new taxes on the wealthy and major corporations to pay for those proposals and also shave $3 trillion off the national debt over the next decade.

....In a $7.3 trillion budget for fiscal year 2025, Biden would have Congress offer universal prekindergarten education, provide 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave, expand anti-poverty tax credits and create a new tax break for first-time home buyers.

So that's what Biden wants. By contrast, Donald Trump is proposing mass roundups of immigrants; a fight against COVID vaccines; huge new middle-class taxes in the form of tariffs; politicization of the civil service; a rollback of any and all climate regulation; a National Guard takeover of major cities; and retribution against liberals.

Take your pick.

'Incomprehensible': Trump decimated for 'word salad on crucially important policy question'

The Biden campaign blasted Donald Trump on Monday after a short clip of the ex-president’s remarks calling for cutting Social Security and Medicare received hundreds of thousands of views, but the full text of his remarks, which include at best inaccurate or misleading claims about inflation and the stock market are raising red flags. Some political and policy experts are saying Trump “has no idea what he’s talking about,” while others are calling them “basically incomprehensible,” a “word salad,” and “gibberish.”

Donald Trump stumbles onto the third rail: Social Security reform

Donald Trump called into a CNBC show on Monday morning, allowing host Joe Kernen to ask a question about government spending and, specifically, the large chunk of spending that’s committed to social programs.

“Have you changed your outlook on how to handle entitlement — Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Mr. President?” Kernen asked. “It seems like something has to be done.”

At that point, two familiar patterns kicked in. Trump tends to like to align with the opinions offered by his interviewers, particularly on subjects that aren’t at the center of his political identity. He also tends to ramble when he’s doing an interview over the phone, making it harder for hosts to cut in. So his response to Kernen was long, convoluted — and offered in agreement.

“The first one, there’s a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting and in terms of the theft and the bad management of entitlements. Tremendous bad management of entitlements,” he said. “there’s tremendous amount of things and numbers or things you can do. So I don’t necessarily agree with the statement. I know that they’re going to end up weakening Social Security, because the country is weak.” He continued on to say something about inflation.

Yup, just keep talking donnie.

A smart DNC operative would already be looking for alternatives. A good case was made for this happening in September- after the convention but far enough in advance of the election to create a new campaign around a new face.

In case you're curious, here's a breakdown of the president's FY25 budget proposal.

The two pink regions represent approximately 5% of the defense budget and 5% of the domestic discretionary budget. The entire interminable fight before we finally agree on a budget will be entirely about those two slivers—or less. Those fights will seem very important when they happen, but keep this chart in mind for perspective. As with academic squabbles, the fighting is intense because the stakes are so low.

Trump will not give a penny to Ukraine - Hungary PM Orban

By Jaroslav Lukiv | March 11, 2024

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-68533351

Donald Trump will not fund Ukraine's fight against Russia's invasion if he is elected US president again, Hungarian PM Viktor Orban has said.

"He will not give a penny in the Ukraine-Russia war. That is why the war will end," the conservative premier said after meeting Mr Trump in Florida.

The former US president has pledged to end the war "within 24 hours" if elected - but provided no details.

Mr Orban is openly backing his long-term ally in the 2024 White House race.

(Mr Orban is Putin's best friend in Europe mostly because Russia supplies Hungary's natural gas at low, low prices. Mr Trump's friendship with Putin also has a materialistic basis, but precisely what is being traded is unspoken.)

Opinion | On Senator Katie Britt’s Response to Biden’s State of the Union

By Paul Krugman | March 11, 2024

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/11/opinion/katie-britt-trump-immigrati
on.html

Sex Trafficking, De Facto Lies and Immigration

On Thursday, Katie Britt, the junior senator from Alabama, delivered the Republican response to the State of the Union address. Her overwrought performance has been widely mocked; that’s OK for late-night TV, but I’m not going to join in that chorus.

What I want to do instead is focus on the centerpiece of Britt’s remarks, a deeply misleading story about sex trafficking that she used to attack President Biden. Her use of the story — which turns out to have involved events in Mexico way back when George W. Bush was president — wasn’t technically a lie, since she didn’t explicitly say that it happened in the United States on Biden’s watch. She did, however, say: “We wouldn’t be OK with this happening in a third-world country. This is the United States of America, and it’s past time we start acting like it. President Biden’s border crisis is a disgrace.”

That’s a clear attempt to mislead — the moral equivalent of a lie — and the careful wording actually suggests that she knew she was being misleading, and wanted an escape hatch if someone called her bluff.

To really understand the significance of her de facto lie, however, we need to put it in political context.

Over the past few months, there’s been a palpable shift in Republican rhetoric away from attacks on the Biden economy and toward dire warnings about “migrant crime.”

This shift has in part been forced by the fact that the Biden economy is actually doing very well these days, with inflation receding while unemployment remains near a 50-year low. In political terms, the narrative of a bad economy seems to be fading.

If I were a Republican strategist, I’d be especially worried about the changing tone of news coverage. The San Francisco Fed maintains a daily index of “news sentiment.” In the summer of 2023, although the economy was arguably already performing pretty well, this index was roughly as low as it was in the depths of the Great Recession. Since then, however, it has shot up to levels roughly comparable to those that prevailed on the eve of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Republicans, then, need a new issue. And there really does seem to have been a surge in illegal attempts to cross our southern border. So there are strategic reasons for Donald Trump and his party to hype the dangers of migrant crime — and for Trump and his allies to maximize the fear factor by blocking bipartisan legislation that would have helped secure the border.

My guess, however, is that Trump’s rants about migrant crime aren’t purely strategic. He has a history of being obsessed with alleged crimes by dark-skinned people, going all the way back to his demand, after the arrests of the Central Park Five, who were eventually exonerated, to reinstate the death penalty. And his claims about the dangers posed by migrants are so extreme that they may well be self-defeating.

The other day, for example, he declared, “I will stop the killing, I will stop the bloodshed, I will end the agony of our people, the plunder of our cities, the sacking of our towns, the violation of our citizens and the conquest of our country.” Which towns and cities, exactly, have been sacked and plundered? Did Attila the Hun swing by for a visit while I wasn’t looking?

Yes, figuring out how best to secure our borders is a real issue, but the data just doesn’t show that there’s a crisis of migrant crime. Indeed, homicides in America surged in 2020 — a year in which Trump was still president and apprehensions at the southern border were way down. By contrast, in the past couple of years, the homicide rate has come down even as border activity has increased.

So what do you do when the numbers don’t support your dystopian fantasies? You zero in on the most horrific individual stories.

Without question, the killing of Laken Riley, for which an undocumented immigrant has been charged, is devastating. But in a country as big as ours, it’s almost always possible to find examples of unspeakable tragedies involving individual members of whatever group you name. There are probably more than 10 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. Based on the available evidence, however, immigrants are less likely than native-born Americans to commit crimes.

In any case, the migrant crime wave — the “plunder of our cities” Trump seems to endlessly decry — is a myth. But it may be a myth Trump believes in, and the possibility that in this instance he may actually be sincere is alarming.

Why? Because if Trump really believes migrants are an existential threat, if he wins in November, as president he might go through with his plan to engage in sweeping raids and mass deportations, very likely catching up many people who simply look as if they might be undocumented immigrants.

So don’t wave away Britt’s remarks as a mere example of bad acting. They may be the harbinger of a reign of terror that will wreak havoc in America.

Trump isn’t just pro-Russia. He’s also anti-Ukraine.

By Max Boot | March 11, 2024

Ukraine’s ammunition is running low, and its front-line positions are in danger of crumbling before a looming Russian offensive. The Senate passed a bill that included $60 billion in desperately needed aid for Ukraine, but House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) still won’t give it a floor vote in the House. Why not? The explanation can be summarized in two words: Donald Trump. Johnson knows that the former (and possibly future) president’s most fervent followers stand ready to oust him if he dares to advance aid to Ukraine. If Nikki Haley were the presumptive Republican nominee, the aid package would have passed long ago.

It’s no secret that Trump is pro-Russia — and specifically pro-Vladimir Putin. Elected with Russian help in 2016, Trump never, ever criticizes the Russian dictator, even after the recent death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in a Russian penal colony. Trump has gone from inviting Russia in 2016 to meddle in the U.S. election (“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 [Hillary Clinton] emails that are missing”) to, in 2024, inviting Russia to invade NATO countries that don’t pay enough for protection (“I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want”).

Less well-known than Trump’s affection for Russia is his disdain for Ukraine — but that also has been evident for at least a decade. Trump has a long and troubling record of regurgitating Russian propaganda and airing deranged conspiracy theories about Ukraine — a country that Putin, like many Russians, views as a wayward province of Mother Russia.

Just a few months after Putin’s illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014, Trump lauded the Russian dictator’s move, saying Putin was “so smart” and that “he’s done an amazing job of taking the mantle.” According to Trump, “people in the Ukraine” were “marching in favor of joining Russia.” On July 31, 2016, Trump, by then the GOP presidential nominee, assured ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos that Putin was “not going into Ukraine,” while insisting that “the people of Crimea, from what I’ve heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were.” That is exactly what the Kremlin itself was claiming.

Trump’s pro-Russia, anti-Ukraine tilt carried over into his presidency. Marie Yovanovitch, then the U.S. ambassador to Kyiv, recounts in her memoir how reluctant Trump was to meet with then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. After Trump finally sat down with Poroshenko in June 2017, he stressed two points, Yovanovitch wrote: “The first was that Ukraine was a corrupt country, which he knew because a Ukrainian friend at Mar-a-Lago had told him. Trump’s second point was that Crimea was Russian, as the locals spoke Russian.” Of course, Russia is even more corrupt than Ukraine, and the vast majority of Russian-speaking Ukrainians have no desire to be ruled by Moscow.

In 2018, Trump became convinced by his conspiracy-theory-mongering attorney, Rudy Giuliani, and two of his shady, Soviet-born associates — Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman — that Ukraine was plotting against him. The president eagerly embraced what U.S. intelligence later assessed was likely a Russian disinformation campaign that blamed Ukraine, not Russia, for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and claimed Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, were implicated in Ukrainian corruption. The crux of this nutty theory turned on a supposedly missing server from the Democratic National Committee that the DNC’s cybersecurity firm, CrowdStrike, somehow spirited away to Ukraine.

Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton recounted in his own memoir that during a May 23, 2019, White House meeting with his senior advisers, Trump railed against Ukraine: “I don’t want any f---ing thing to do with Ukraine. They f---ing attacked me. … They’re corrupt.”

In his fury, Trump ordered Yovanovitch’s recall from Kyiv; Giuliani and his pals had convinced him that she was part of the supposed Ukrainian cabal against him. During Trump’s notorious July 25, 2019, phone call with Ukraine’s new president, Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump demanded that Ukraine turn over the DNC server and provide dirt on the Bidens. To encourage Zelensky to comply, Trump halted weapons deliveries to Ukraine. That led to his first impeachment.

When Putin launched a broader invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, Trump hailed it as an act of “genius,” “smart” and “savvy.” In a May 2023 town hall in New Hampshire, Trump wouldn’t say whether he wants Ukraine or Russia to win the war. In a Truth Social post last month, Trump argued against providing aid to Ukraine “without the hope of a payback.” His son, Donald Trump Jr., has slammed Zelensky, regarded by millions as a heroic figure, as “an ungrateful international welfare queen.” Trump has been claiming that he would end the Ukraine war “in one day” — which could be accomplished only by forcing Kyiv’s capitulation.

Trump has also been demanding that Congress impeach President Biden based, in part, on allegations that he and Hunter Biden profited from corrupt connections in Ukraine. The MAGA case has fallen apart after a special counsel recently charged FBI informant Alexander Smirnov — the chief source of these allegations — with lying to FBI agents.

Smirnov claimed close ties to Russian intelligence, which, if true, would hardly make him unusual in MAGA circles. One of Trump’s campaign managers in 2016, Paul Manafort, worked for pro-Putin oligarchs in Ukraine and Russia. One of his closest colleagues was Konstantin Kilimnik, who was described by the Senate Intelligence Committee as a Russian intelligence officer.

Such connections have led to endless, unconfirmed speculation that Trump has been blackmailed or paid off by the Kremlin. But there could be a simpler explanation for Trump’s puzzling affection for Russia and his concomitant antipathy toward Ukraine.

Fiona Hill, who was the top Russia expert on Trump’s National Security Council, told me that Trump has long been marinating in a “primordial soup of Russian propaganda.” She said Trump knew a lot of wealthy Russians in South Florida (some of them did very profitable business with him), and they convinced him that “Ukraine isn’t a real country. They’re corrupt, they’re poor, they’re weak.”

Then, of course, there is Trump’s well-documented affection for Putin; as Hill put it, “Trump thinks Putin is a badass, and that’s how he sees himself as well.” Hill told me that, in the Trump-Putin conversations, Putin reinforced Trump’s negative view of Ukraine. In general, the former KGB officer has been masterful in manipulating Trump by playing on his vanity. Trump is pathetically pleased anytime Putin compliments him.

Some analysts hope that House Republicans might finally relent on Ukraine aid if only because they don’t want to be held responsible for Ukraine’s defeat. But I would bet Trump has a different calculus: Just as he torpedoed a bipartisan Senate immigration bill because he doesn’t want to deliver any wins for Biden, so he might now see political benefits from Ukrainian defeats that he can blame on his opponent.

Whatever Trump’s actual thought process — and it is admittedly difficult to decipher his often contradictory and conspiratorial statements — the ultimate upshot is clear: He has turned a Republican Party that once prided itself on standing up to the “evil empire” into Putin’s poodle. The Kremlin’s intervention in the 2016 U.S. election, which might have helped swing a contest that Trump won by a razor-thin margin, could turn out to be one of the most consequential covert actions in history. It might allow the Russian dictator to win in Washington a victory that his troops could not win on the battlefield.

Donald Trump and his advisers have made campaign promises to toss crucial environmental regulations and boost the planet-heating fossil fuel sector. The industry DOES NOT need his "help" or his "boosting". That braying jackass always takes credit for what he did not do, a character trait that his Trumptards share with him.

The funny thing about Trumptards getting into trouble but it is never their fault in their opinion.

Trump makes a desperate bid to delay his hush money trial | March 11, 2024 – 9:04 pm

The Stormy Daniels hush money trial is scheduled to begin in two weeks. Naturally this means that Donald Trump's legal team is just now getting around to asking for a delay while we wait for the Supreme Court to rule on whether Trump is automatically immune to prosecution for anything he did while president.

The timing of this is obviously suspect, but you may also be wondering what official presidential acts Trump is trying to protect. After all, this case is about alleged hush money paid to keep Stormy Daniels quiet during the 2016 campaign, months before Trump was inaugurated.

One possibility is that although Michael Cohen made the payments in 2016 on Trump's behalf, he was reimbursed in 2017, while Trump was in office. But it turns out that's not part of Trump's argument. Instead, he's arguing that part of the prosecution's case includes evidence of statements Trump made in 2018. That's it. The actual acts predated his presidency, but some of his incriminating public statements were made on Twitter two years later. And nothing he said while in office can be used in the case.

Former Trump White House aide Peter Navarro has been ordered to report to a Miami prison on March 19 to begin serving a four month sentence for defying a subpoena from the Jan. 6 select committee.

Navarro, who is urging a federal appeals court to stay the sentence while he attempts to overturn his conviction, faces the prospect of becoming the first top adviser to Donald Trump to serve jail time for an offense related to the effort to subvert the 2020 election.

Related to... very loosely.

He said fuck you to the subpoena. Good for him. Fuck your illegitimate, tyrannical administration that's trying to destroy democracy every day.
