Here's what happens when you pay for everything in cash

9 out of 10 people with credit cards aren't responsible enough to use them.

There's a reason why there are "Rewards" programs attached to these cards, and it certainly isn't out of the kindness of their hearts.

It's because they've got decades worth of statistics, actuary data and psychology under their belt and they know that most people are fuck-ups.

They don't mind giving people like me $300 to $500 for opening a new card or two every year, or giving me up to 5% cash back on any purcahses I make because for every one of me they're paying there's at least 10 or 20 more that are forking over boatloads of interest at asinine and sometimes almost even PayDay loan rates these days.

That's not to say the article doesn't have any merit. I've never been afraid to walk around with $500 or $600 in my wallet, but there will come a time where that's no longer true anymore as I get older. I certainly wouldn't recommend that any woman, elderly person or effeminate man walk around with that kind of scratch just waiting to be stolen from them in 2025.

Add to that, I wear nothing but T-shirts and jeans these days, and when I'm pulling up somewhere with my near 20-year old car with half of the paint peeled off, there ain't nobody targeting me when I walk into ALDI or Home Depot. If you're dressing nice and you drive around in a nice new ride, you probably shouldn't have too much cash in your pockets either.

And the other benefit they mention that is worthwhile is the ability to dispute transactions after the fact. There is no denying that it is much easier to do this with the might of the Credit Card companies behind your righteous denial of payment for a bad product or service than it would be for you to do on your own after cash leaves your hands. But in truth, most of the purchases you're likely to make on any given day don't fall into this category of worry.

My advice would be to pay for things with cash wherever you can, whenever you can, but do it safely. If you're not at all comfortable walking around with a lot of cash, don't do it. A little trick I've used before is to have two places for my money when I go out if I'm making a huge purchase and I've got a lot of cash on hand. Put 10% or so in your wallet (or purse) in case you get robbed, then hide the rest somewhere else that a thief who wasn't looking to murder you wouldn't bother looking when they're trying to rob you as fast as they can and get the hell out of dodge. Socks work... as long as you're wearing pants that cover them or you don't have so much stuffed in there that it's obvious when wearing shorts or a skirt/dress. If you've got a lot of pockets that can work too. If you're really paranoid, put it in a baggie and stuff it in your bra or down your drawers until you get where you're going.

If you're going to make a large abnormal purchase, especially online when you're buying something sight-unseen and/or left without any other choice, sure... use the card as a method of protection for that peace of mind.

But most of you need to do a lot better treating those card purchases as if they were dollar bills coming out of your wallet, instead of the 1's and 0's slotted off your credsticks. And most of you will never do this, and that's why those "Rewards" programs aren't likely to go anywhere anytime soon.

Oh yeah... The article finishes with links for "their choice" of top credit cards which I'm sure nets both MSN and Motely Fool a nice little kickback when you sign up through their links.

Thank you once again, "Journalists" and Corporate America for filling the dumb-shit's head with propaganda they have zero defense against and leave them with just another way to bury themselves into life-long wage slavery.

You are all whores.
