Hi,

I just found this site. I was working when the show originally aired and lost my job in 2004. So I've been out of touch a lot.

Small ad - I earn about $50 per month with a small model railroad business. I am on eBay with books and turntable kits.

Back to my impressions of Firefly.

I recall my first impression of seeing the first aired episode (Train Job) - confusing as heck. No character background to build on.

I fell in love with Firfly and purchased the DVD as soon as it was offered. It showed what I think of as a real world - not just rich or middle class. Sort of like the Tanya Huff Vatta series - different places have differing resources and can afford different thinks. The John Wayne Movie "Big Jake"s opening showed the difference beteen the east coast development and the "wild west".

The Malcomb Renyolds character is a lot like the John Wayne persona that was developed after about 1940 (Stage Coach).

The Reavers were sort of like the Comancheros. Wonderful ensomble.

Glad to see that it might be coming back. I really hope it does. The Serenity Movie was great and I wish I had the money for the comic book "episodes."

One last John Wayne sort of parallel is Innara and the character played by Mourine O'hara strong willed people caring for each other but stuborn and clashiing.

Trains and John Wayne...You might just be an OK sort

As for coming back, Nathan and Alan are doing a show together about their days on FF and dealing with fans at Comic Cons, and it's probably as close as we'll get. But hey, it took Star Wars a few decades to come back around, so "Ya never do know". We say that a lot around here.

Anyways, if you want to know the plot of any of the comics I could do that for ya.

Sorry for the slow welcome, we have busier days than others around here.

What other media (comic books or paper back books) contain firefly stories?

I am a bird watcher from way back - Gemini 6, Apollo 11, 15, and 17 and I was lucky enough to working at Mission Control Houston for space shuttle flights 5 and 6.

Many diverse interests.

There are actually quite a few books beyond the comics. IIRC, the first to be published was Finding Serenity in 2004, edited by Jane Espenson, who wrote the episode "Shindig." It contained essays by various writers. She later edited another, Serenity Found.

Then there are the Visual Companions, two volumes for Firefly, one for Serenity, published by Titan Books. They contain the full original scripts, not just transcripts of the broadcast episodes, so there are a few scenes that didn't make it into the final productions. Also, plenty of great photos of the cast, sets, props, etc, as well as interviews with almost everyone involved. The fourth Titan release was Still Flying, which included more essays but also short stories written by four series writers, Jane Espenson, Ben Edlund, Brett Matthews and Jose Molina. The three Firefly volumes (but not the Serenity one) were later collected together in Firefly: A Celebration for the tenth anniversary of the show.
