Michelle McNamara, the writer and founder of website True Crime Diary who was married to actor Patton Oswalt, has died at the age of 46.

The actor’s rep told the Associated Press that McNamara died in her sleep on Thursday, April 21. No cause of death was given.

The Veep actor married McNamara in 2005, and together they have a 7-year-old daughter named Alice.

Just awful. That poor little girl.
For those that don't know, "Serenity: Float Out," was written by actor-comedian Patton Oswalt.

He also was in several episodes of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a dozen other things you've seen.

I really enjoyed him in Dollhouse.

Patton Oswalt paid tribute to his late wife, Michelle McNamara, on Twitter today.

McNamara, a crime writer, died last week at home in Los Angeles, the Associated Press reported.

No cause of death was given.

"She wrote lines that stung & hummed. 13 years in her presence was happily humbling. #RIPMichelleMcNamara," Oswalt wrote.

The actor also retweeted a link to 826LA, an arts organization accepting donations on McNamara's behalf.

"826LA encourages young writers to explore their creativity and improve their writing skills, and helps teachers get their classes excited about writing. A donation to 826LA in Michelle’s honor helps push forward her creative legacy," reads the website. "On behalf of Michelle, Patton, and Alice, we thank you for your donation."

McNamara, 46, was writing a book about a serial rapist and killer at the time — working long days and nights to solve the crimes of the person she had coined “The Golden State Killer.”

It was a case that led to anxiety and nightmares that kept McNamara up at night. So worried about her health, Oswalt suggested she take a night to “sleep until you wake up.”

On April 21, McNamara took some Xanax and went to sleep. She never woke up.

The next morning, Oswalt remembered waking up early to get his daughter Alice dressed, packed and off to school. On the way home, he picked up an Americano coffee and left it on McNamara’s bedside table — around 9:40 a.m., he said.

He then went to work in his home office — answering emails, sending some tweets about Prince’s death, and handling a few phone interviews.

It was 12:42 p.m., he said, when he checked to see if his wife was up yet. She was still in bed — not breathing. The paramedics pronounced her dead on the scene.

I was wondering when they would say what it was. From some of the comments it seems Xanax affects people vastly differently...

If you need to get sleep, I'd recommend a Benedryl and an Advil PM. Prescription drugs have horrifying side effects...

Don't overdo it though. The "PM" medication is the exact same thing as Benadryl, dyphenhydramime.

Oops, that was supposed to be an "or" in there..

Good catch.

I will add that one benedryl knocks me on my ass, but the doc said that adults can take two, no problem, and I've been taking the things for years...

Everything really does affect people differently.

Well, that was fast. He's engaged.

I hope it works out. His kid could probably use a female touch around the house, he's made some comments about not being able to handle everything well.

She looks a lot like his first wife, I had to look at the pics twice.

BTW, Meredith Salenger is the kid from The Journey of Natty Gann. I've seen that movie a buncha times. Weird.

Meredith was quite the hottie in the late 80's.
Looks like she revived her character name for Race To Witch Mountain, 24 years later.

And she is an alum of Buffy. Wonder if they met at a Whedonverse event/activity.

Bumping the spammers down...and I saw a pic of him after getting married the other say...he's lost a ton, and they looked happy. It's a nice thing to see something good come out of something horrible. I'm happy for them.

Right.. very good story indeed. I was curious as to the reason for the bump of older posts, as I didn't take note of spammers.

I read the other day that Patton said there were some awkward moments for them adjusting to having a different woman in the house...I'm sure it was disconcerting for the kid...
