Quote:I think the most amount of hate mail I've ever gotten since I started writing for JoBlo.com some 4 years ago was when I questioned the SERENITY movie. Boy the fans came out of the woodworks on that one to rip me a new one. In my defense, I think my commens were overblown as I wasn't criticizing the quality of the show (I haven't even seen it), just curious about the business decision to base a big-budget sci-fi flick on a shortlived TV series. I have now learned through a series of e-mails from "Firefly" fans that there is a huge, devoted audience to the franchise and that, like STAR TREK, successful films can often come out of cancelled TV shows. I also learned that I'm a stupid piece of @!#$ with %$&* for brains. At least according to those e-mails. Anyway, bad news for that devoted bunch of "Firefly" fans. Writer/Director Joss Whedon has announced that the release of the film has been pushed back from April to September. Whedon explains it by saying, "April got crowded with a lot of titles aimed at a similar demographic, and the studio decided September was a clearer corridor for the film to make the kind of impact it should." Sounds like a similar decision Paramount made this summer with SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW and that seemed like a smart one. Unfortunately it just means a longer wait for the fans. To pass the time, I invite them to further fill my inbox with angry e-mails. But take it easy this time Whedonites - I got nothin but love for ya.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Of course I suddenly feel inspired to make several new designs. Unfortunately, this is one of those bits of news to fuel the fire of the scoffers. Yes, it has to be moved to avoid being crushed by the bohemoth-like franchises, but you'll never convince me that it has to be moved THAT far. Hell, move it forward three weeks.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same
