Haven't been here in a while. Kinda bummed by the postponement news, but hey, Sky Captain was postponed to September and did better than expected at the box office.

Spotted this on www.comicscontinuum.com:

http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0411/23/index.htm

Vixen, Wildcat and Black Canary all will get the spotlight in upcoming episodes of Cartoon Network's Justice League Unlimited.

Promos during the end credits of upcoming shows reveal the characters in action.

Vixen is voiced by Gina Torres, Wildcat by Dennis Farina and Black Canary by Morena Baccarin.

really? i thought it was viewed a commercial disappointment considering it only took in about $35 million in ticket sales with a reported budget of $40 million. dvd sales will easily make up the difference, but that does not seem like a better than expected haul, especially for a wide release movie with that kind of star backing (law, paltrow and jolie).

I imagine that it would've made even less than that had it been released during the summer blockbuster timeframe, as it was originally intended.

And I guess I should have said 'better than I expected at the box office'.

According to boxofficemojo.com, it was a $70 million budget, so I don't believe DVD sales will make up that difference:

true. you are right. it would have made even less going up against spiderman and whatnot. i wanted to see it, but never got the chance (sky captain that is. i am not really interested in spiderman). $70 million?! outrageous! the movie was filmed entirely in front of green screen. i guess those effects were really pricey. and no, dvd sales will not make up a $35 million loss. i am always amazed at how the budgets and ticket sale figures sail right over my head. a reporteed $240 million budget for polar express? $300 million in ticket sales for finding nemo? these kinds of figures just have no meaning to me.

IMO, Finding Nemo deserved every penny it earned, a real class act, especially compared to the creative bankruptcy that was Shark Tale.

You'd be surprised how much some DVDs can make, even on things that dudded at the box office. For example, the recent release of The Chronicles of Riddick, which bombed just a few months ago, just sold 1.5m DVD & VHS copies in its first day alone.

Rest assured that studios now monitor DVD sales and factor them in when deciding on things like sequels, etc.
