Just rang Jenni at UIP re: Serenity, and she confirms the UK release date for Serenity has definitely been pushed back. D'oh.

UIP are looking at a September/October release in the UK, however nothing is confirmed yet.

Spread the words, peeps.

Thanks,

Kevin.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'm not in the UK, but I wanted to reply to something to see if my new tag line showed up correctly.

I got the same info from UIP France.

I had contacted them before the news of the delay, asking them about a trailer. Here is what they answered:
"Nous n'avons pas encore reçu d'images sur SERENITY et nous ne pouvons pas répondre plus précisément à votre demande"
We haven't got any image from Serenity yet so we can't give you a more precise reply.

I told them that uip in the netherlands had put a pic on the serenity webpage - which btw doesn't even exist on the french uip website.

I'm glad we're looking at a September / October thing for the UK (I'm in Ireland which the movie companies count as part of the UK - we've been an independant republic for 82 years but the studios don't seem to know that )

When I heard "push back" I was thinking we could expect a November release or something (Like "crap, it'll be this time next year before I get to see it").

Can't wait!

Yeah, the UK (and Ireland) does seem to get the very short end of the stick sometimes when it comes to movie releases. Mind you, that did in the past allow me to dazzle my friends by showing them imported DVDs of movies just out/yet to be released in the UK. Pity they all wised up but I did get the priceless moment of someone asking if the Blair Witch Project was a documentary just before we watched it.

And no, we didn't tell him for days afterwards.

As the webmaster at summerglau.co.uk I am in touch with UIP concerning the release date for Serenity here in the UK. I recently wrote to them concerning the lack of release date in the UK, only to be beaten to it by Joss's announcement that the whole shebang was being moved backwards to September. Anyhow, the nice lady at UIP wrote to explain what is happening at the moment...

"With so much competition around during the summer - Star Wars etc - it's now looking likely that the theatrical release of SERENITY will be delayed until after summer 2005 in the UK to give it a better chance of success and a longer run in the cinemas. As soon as the UK date is up on our board I will be in touch. FYI - Empire Magazine and Total Film will both run set visit pieces early in the New Year. I'll advise issue dates when known. Am busily educating all here in Golden Square on all things FIREFLY."

As I said on various posting boards I find it refreshing that the person charged with promoting Serenity is something of a Browncoat herself.

Agreed, that is good news. Shame there weren't a few at the Fox network.

Yes. If you manage to get ahold of the right people in Universal (the front line website staff there don't seem to know what is going on, honestly) you will find they are browncoats, too.

I'm in touch with the staff at UIP - they know their stuff, which is very handy for us UK browncoats as it means we get quality information as to what is happening.
