Oh and for those who are angry at me for posting this thread, when "ripping me a new asshole" please be gentle. Thank you and goodnight, coming up next--your local forcast.

Indeed. If we don't get a good supply of spoilers, how can we have prepared minds when the screener hits Usenet?

I'm not going to rip you one, and I don't think anyone else should either. There are two sides to the spoiler coin, and if you see the word and don't want to be, then don't click on the thread!

Just like fundamentalist christians, the majority of spoiler-phobes think we have no right to be spoiled if we want to be. That their way is the only way, and aren't we VILE for not thinking the way they think?

B.S.

I'm an adult, and I will decide for myself if I want to be spoiled ahead of time. I was spoiled for the entire runs of Buffy and Angel and it did not ruin one single heartfelt moment for me.

So leave me (and others like me) alone, spoiler-phobes. I'll make my own decisions, thank you very much.

Sorry? Why?

Personally, I was hitting SpoilerSlayer every day looking for info in Angel and Buffy. I love spoilers, as they let me watch the wonder that is the show without being distracted by the surprises. I felt that the shows were even more interesting when I did know what was going on.

My wife, however, is significantly spoiler adverse. She hates knowing beforehand what's going on, as it ruins it for her.

Different people have different personalities. If people can't accept that, well...

Guess that's their problem.

Heheh... My apologies - I didn't seperate my two comments well enough. I was asking why you were sorry because I liked the gag about the theme song!

Then I babbled my way into my response to the rest of the thread...

Ah, well - it's definitely been one of those days! (With the exception of the information from the screening, of course! )

Hmm, no one seems to be biting.

So how about I give you a spoiler?

Did you ever notice that almost everyone in the show has been wounded... except Inara? Well, there is a reason for that. She is an android! No one knows it, but when Mal finds out, he goes bananas!

Sorry, that was just made up. I'm so desperate to hear something new about Serenity that I'm spewing nonsense.

Isawthemovie, you missed my point. I wasn't saying that you who saw it have to tell us anything!

I simply meant that if some people were to post spoilers, that there are some of us out there that would enjoy reading them, and that it doesn't make me a bad person because I like being spoiled.

You can do whatever you want! Just like the rest of us!

Someone on whedonesque implied that there are certain things Book says concerning another character that could be interpreted to be a characterization of himself in the past.

Hey! Since we're on the topic (sorta): What'd y'all get for Chanukah/Christmas/Diwali/Kwanza(a)/Winter Solstice Sacrifice-a-Goat Day? (Sorted by alpha; no moral order of preference should be inferred.) I mean, y'all surely didn't wait to open your presents, right? What would be the fun in that, when instant gratification beckons with its little endorphin-laced tendrils?

Enticingly,

Maybe this is what Zoid just said but in more words, who knows? but I always think spoilers *are* a bit like getting your presents still in their wrapping - you can pick them up, feel the weight and rattle or squeeze them. But you still don't really know what's in there until you take the wrapping off. I loved spoilers once I found Spoiler Slayer, somehow it was always seeing exactly how the bits you knew fitted in with the stuff that couldn't easily be conveyed in words which was fun. Even when you've got the script, there's so much more to the experience, visual, music and sound etc.

It's about antici ----------pation.

If you don't see the prezzies at all it's not the same

To be honest you really do not learn anything new about Book.

In one scene where he is talking to Mal, Mal asks the question we all would like to ask Book. Simply Mal asks what the deal is with Book's past. The sad thing about Books answer is it is almost written for the audience, in the sense that Books past is no longer important since the show is no longer around to show it.

Book tells Mal that his history is not importnant anymore.

Book was barely in the movie, which was sad. Because I did like the character. One of the reasons why the show was so great was because of the balance of the characters.

Jiltedtoo, what sort of storyline was there between Mal and Inara, do we get any romance at all between the two?

Also, someone on the other spoiler thread said that two of our heros die, is this true or just a horrible lie?

Thanks, JT. In one sense, it's good to know that all the potential narrative arcs of the TV show haven't been shoe-horned into a movie. We wouldn't expect anything uncraftsman-like from Whedon, but confirmation is good.

Yes it is true there is more then one character death in the movie. I actually answered about who dies and how they die in that thread.

I wanted to say, I really really loved the movie. The first 45 minutes of the movie felt so much like the show, it was unreal. I have watched the episodes of the show a few times and the feeling of watching the characters in new situations, saying new things, just blew me away.

The sad part about this movie is it doesn't feel like a new life to the show Firefly. It feels like an end to the old show. It doesn't give me new hope to see the characters again. It gave me a sense of closure to the old show I have grown to cherish.

I enjoy talking about the show with other fans. It is hard to find people who have even heard about the show.

I had hoped for a transition also. Though honestly, I think the movie will do well, but not good enough for more major motion pictures. A TV series would have been great, but from what I hear Universal cannot do it, and Whedon doesn't like the idea of a TV show anymore.

The point is, however, that apparently all 9 actors signed contracts for three movies. That being so, it does seem strange for Joss to kill off two of the actors, unless for some strange reason two of the actors wanted out of their contracts, which seems unlikely. That being so, unless Joss plans on doing prequels for the other two movies (if they get made), it may simply be that the test screening was just that, a test to see the fans' and cinemagoers' reactions to the deaths. Let's face it, the test screening very rarely resembles the finished product.

Yay! Somebody said it! Woo-hoo! Sorry.

One of the most consistent things I've read, during my (obsessive) search for things Firefly and/or Serenity has been the "all major actors have signed on for a trilogy" nugget. This isn't tv, wherein an actor can sign on for the whole season then decide, nah, or get shitcanned for whatever reason and thereby written out of the series. The contracts for the putative second and third parts would probably specify something like "should the movie do well, blahdeblahdeblah, then you, the undersigned agree to appear in Space Monkeys (temporary title) and They Were Clones! (temporary title)." Not being a lawyer for either side, of course, I can only say that the previous is the most likely scenario, probably with caveats. (I mean, yeah, contracts get broken all the time, but on such a tight budget, I'm assuming no one wants that.)

Anyway, my point is that, while the whole trilogy talk thing may be just that, talk, I lean more towards it being an actual thing, more set in stone than a screening version of Serenity would be (you can do many, many, things with editing, I'm just sayin').

I've been to screenings (I used to live in LA), and I know what they're looking for is neutrality, and that they didn't get that with the Serenity screening. I also know that the versions of the movies I saw either a) changed pretty significantly before release, or b) went straight to video, if that.

I also have the sneaking suspicion that "they" probably knew that the screening was going to be loaded with Browncoats (not a bad thing, but not quite what is wanted when tweaking a film), and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the cut was skewed towards throwing everybody off. Because whatever confidentiality may have been hoped for, or however those who viewed it try to be good and not tell us anything (oops!), the cat will eventually be let out of the bag. People just like to talk, and secrecy is not really our thing.

Having been around for a while, and having seen screenings, trailers, and marketing stuff for movies (since I don't live in a cave), I also know that between when the buzz starts on a movie, and the rumours that follow, and the movie actually hitting the screen (I've waited two years between seeing a trailer at a theater and a movie actually coming out, so things can also get pushed back further than would otherwise be believed), things can change almost beyond recognizability. I don't think we can count on what spoilers (most especially regarding "shocking" plot points) we learn here actually showing up in the final product, and I consider that a good thing. It means I can spoil myself mightily, and still be surprised when I see the actual film.

No changes would surprise me, come Serenity Day.
