Every morning I pour myself a cuppa Joe and turn on the ol' computer. I get my e-mail, read the headlines and check my bank balance. Then I go to this shiney web site to see if there are any new threads that pique my interest. My fellow browncoats are so uhm...interesting that I figured you all might be able to reccomend some neat, unusual, intriguing sites to help me broaden my horizons. Thanks in advance. Oh and by the way, no porn. ok?

One of my favorites is SelectSmart.com. It's a bunch of online quizzes, and while a lot of them are not that intellectual (although still fun), the philosophy and religion selectors are quite interesting and tend to make you think.

Packer fans welcome.
All others tolerated.

I would love to reccomend The BuffyGuide Forums. There always entertaining, with over 400 users too. Feel free to register and dive into the discussions!

Its not just for Buffy/Angel fans too. The off-topic convos are so entertaining!

Although I must warn you that you may become addicted...as so many of us are.

Really funny reading at:

http://forums.somethingawful.com/

Go into the General Bull**** section. To become a member its 10 bux for a lifetime membership. If a memeber you can get all the shareware (movies, music and software) you can fit on your HD. Just reading the posts is enough for me though.

I also check www.buffy.nu daily.

here are some fun ones that i visit pretty regularly:

nasa's image of the day:
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/imagegallery/
not really "image of the day". better for a once a week visit.

if you like sports and some mildly crass humor, bill simmons' column on espn is a great read:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/simmons/index
updated almost everyday and sometimes more than once a day.

if you ever get stuck looking for a quote from buffy or angel:
http://www.buffy-vs-angel.com

DO NOT type in buffyvsangel.com that is a website of ill repute as i discovered to my dismay.

BADGERSHAT

www.snopes.com is always fun--they research, report, and debunk various urban legends, hoaxes, myths, e-mail scams, etc. Lots of interesting stuff, not porn.

www.freearcade.com is fun if you need to kill time with REEEEAAALLLLLLYYYY cheesey games.

www.nerve.com is not porn, per se, but IS a bit on the raunchy side at times (it's a very New York mentality site).

www.theonion.com is ALWAYS great. It's pretty much the ultimate news-farce.

I tend to get my news updates from www.msnbc.com, myself.

Check a few of those out, they rarely disappoint me.

Let's see, here are ones I typically visit:

Aside from this one, that is....

www.thesamba.com - good for all my old VW needs! Great forum, too! I'm NorCalRiviera there.

www.homestarrunner.com - awesomely funny flash 'toons. You need to see it..go..go now...c'mon, get over there already!

www.imdb.com - inevitably movies and actors come up in class discussions, so this is a good resource.

www.ebgames.com - just to see if they have North and South available for my NES yet. If you have it and want to sell it, email me!

Those are all the non-porn ones that come to mind here at the end of my work day. :)

One of the fun sites I visit on occasion is Cockeyed (not porn - the creator is named Rob Cockerham): http://www.cockeyed.com

Rob doesn't update that much but there's plenty of stuff in the various thumbnailed sections to keep you occupied for a while. My favorite section is the "How much is inside?" one.

http://news.google.com/ - I check this site daily - I like getting news from more than just American sources.

And http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html is my home page - and they do put a new picture up every day!

No porn? No porn?! What do you even have a computer for?

Okay, here's one of, like 367 bookmarks in my browser's library:
http://www.alt-bin.com/index.php?pg=rules

A very useful site for helping you find 'unlimited use trial software'... Ummm... For 'research purposes only'.

Resourcefully,

P.S.
The author wishes to express that he, himself, would never do anything that might later be construed as illegal, nor encourage others to do likewise. Especially if Microsoft has any involvement; the author may not have any real use for them at this point in his life, but has nonetheless formed quite an attachment to his testes, and hopes to be buried with them. Ummm... At a date many years hence. The author is likewise not enamored of the idea of making lots of affectionate friends in a new and challenging environment (read: correctional institution).

I was joking. No, really.

INDIGO

Yep, that sound's like me: coffee, FireFlyFans and my general line-up of news and wierdness.

I'm fairly lefty, intellectualy eclectic, and have a skewed sense of humor so keep that in mind:

(Oh but gads, I recently lost my multiverse of bookmarked cool links when we pulled a couple of drives into a new computer -- so thanks all for helping me find some of these again too! I love engrish.com, Penny Arcade, and NASA's site.)

http://www.truthout.org -- for fairly serious news and politics.

http://www.witchvox.com -- a *huge* resource for the Pagan-minded.

http://thomas.loc.gov -- US Congress on the internet. Handy dandy.

http://www.darklinks.com -- another huge links resource for everything goth.

http://www.mythinglinks.org -- an outstanding resource for the world of mythology and folklore.

htt:// www.salon.com -- editorials, open minds.

http://www.universetoday.com -- awesome site for astronomy news. Great photos.

MISGUIDED BY VOICES

www.cdbaby.com

Just remembered the address today, and now I will soon be destitute and begging for scraps.

Small, indy acts and labels (though a few "names") - good descriptions of the music and influences and a more than generous sample of the sounds on offer to let you make up your mind - plus they recommend music by mood if you so wish.

You want a sci-fi connection? They appear to have albums by Ivanova, the Pink Power Ranger and Purdy from Jeremiah (or Theo from the Cosby show should you so wish) on there...

Both by David "Walky" Willis. It's Walky! just ended its run a few months ago, but you should dig into the archives to get the full adventure-y goodness from the beginning; it's like the Buffy of web-based comics. Shortpacked! is just relaunching today, so it's new to me too.

Is full of football (soccer) humour. It includes a wonderful guide to the 2006 World Cup in Germany by the hoff http://www.the-onion-bag.com/worldcup/index.php?page=hoff
I also recommend voting in Heidi's Babe World Cup, which takes a representative from each nation - the US one is SMG.

You can also go to www.mousebreaker.com to waste hours on the many flash games. The best one has its own dedicated site because it's so popular http://www.playforyourclub.com/play.php If you do, make sure you play for CRYSTAL PALACE.
