Don't know if this has been discussed here - I haven't seen anything about it. Stop me if you've heard it.

Let's say we live in a slightly parallel universe where the only difference is that one Fox exec woke up on the right side of the bed one morning and Firefly didn't get cancelled. The show has gone through four increasingly successful seasons and it's time for Joss to consider a spinoff.

What's it about?

To me the obvious one would be a story set in the war before the Browncoats lost.

Maybe one where Jayne finally gets thrown out the airlock, miraculously survives, and has a bunch of insane adventures.

Or even one about the horrible "school" where the blue-handed men torture young women with disgusting surgeries to try to force them to be useful tools for the tyrannical overlords.

...only that last one might be too much like "The Swan".

Any ideas?

I can see a spinoff about the Blue Sun Corporation. River wasn't the only girl they experimented on, so maybe this spinoff is set a few years in the future and we find out what they were trying to create. Basically, there is a whole army of those Academy kids who do the Blue Sun's bidding. The gang tries to stop them, destroy the Blue Sun Corp. becuase the whole 'verse is being affected (not in a good way) by their actions.

A Saffron spin off would have been good I think. It could have been a more urban cousin to Firefly, with the devious little minx scamming the populace of the core. Her amorality would have leant such a project a freshness of its own.

Or

Simesky and Jayne: Tam and Cobb, two maverick core planet police officers, paint a shuttle red and white and blaze about town solving crimes. They would tick off their uptight chief (Comm. Reynolds) and occaisionally consult Early Bear for bean spillage.

Any box related accidents that transpire are purely coincidental.

Sign me up for the Saffron spin-off! "Our Mrs. Reynolds" is my favorite FF, with "Trash" about 3rd.

MALICIOUS

Duh! The OBVIOUS spinoff was about to happen! Inara was going to leave Serenity and start her own brothel--THAT was going to be the new show.

The drama takes place when we find out that Niska wants a cut of the business or he will make Inara not so solid.

The comedy hijinx ensue when Jayne drops by for free booty.

Mal and the crew have to come to Inara's rescue and Niska finally gets tossed in the airlock and sucked out into space.

Mal-licious

Sounds kinda like a Firefly version of Gunslinger Girl, but with an older cast (the actual animé involves child soldiers).

A bunch of "orphan" girls trained and augmented to work as assassins and supercommandos, until one of them starts slipping her control. . .

I think Book would have been able to have a spinoff. Something tells me that when we find out what his secret is, that he's not going to be part of the crew much longer. Unless they find out who he is but that he's decided to turn against his past and wants to join the crew or something.

Still I like the Saffron idea better :)

REAVERMADNESS

...Could always do a weird cross between the Heavy Metal flick and something like Enterprise (in a way) where the spinoff story is about the ship itself. Wierd ways that it passes hands. The story of the next crew until... (whatever happens here)... and the ship gets new owners/crew and it goes on...

...Also... could work the first few "crossover" eps into where River wouldn't have been quite as "off center" if she hadn't been brought aboard that ship. Maybe some of the things in her head, wasn't just in her head. Bum...Bum...Bum...(dramatic reverb!)

When I die I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandpa. Not screaming and yelling like everyone else in the car he was driving.
