BIRDANDBEAR

...and if it isn't, well....Hi anyway, and sorry 'bout that.

I found this site through a link on Buffy.nu. I'm a newish Firefly fan, and a newish Joss fan in general. My husband and I started watching Buffy, and then Angel last summer, after deciding to give a fair chance to what so many of our friends had been on about for so long. We quickly became rabid, obsessive converts,(and have since dropped a pretty penny on dvd's of our very own. ) And then when we were done, and still reeling from the cataclysmic final episode of Angel, our theatre director came to me and said, "Did you know Joss also did a sci-fi show? Sort of a space pirate western thing?"
We couldn't get hold of the show fast enough....

And of course, it was just as phenomenal as the Buffy 'verse, only tragically short lived. (Stupid networks....we missed gems like these when they were on the air because the general cruddiness of what they choose to air has driven us to pretty much boycott television altogether...) Anyway, the Serenity movie is now the best news we've had in a long time, and we've committed ourselves to seeing it (or at least buying tickets) twice a paycheck for as long as it's in theaters, 'cause we really want that trilogy!

So....yeah. Another Jossaholic makes her way to a support group....baby steps...

Important people don't do field work.

Welcome...You must be a King fan, like me...What is it:
Bird and Bear, Hare and Fish...

I can't remember offhand...but, this is a great site...I've been here just under a year, and I've liked it so much that its the only website that I've contributed financially to. Its just that good. Plenty of resources and information, and plenty of nice, intelligent Browncoats to talk to...Heck, even the occasional troll can be fun.

Anyways...umm...welcome.

Plus...hey, Beer!

EMBERS

Welcome!
It is always a joy to hear about new fans...
and believe me, even when you are watching your Firefly DVDs for the fifth or sixth time you will still find a lot to interest you!

Now, are you familiar with the comic books?
Not so much the Buffy & Angel comics (which weren't actually written by Joss Whedon),
but the comics that were:

Fray (a series he completed)
Tales of the Slayer (a one off comic)
Tales of the Vampire (a completed series)
Astonishing X-men (currently continuing series)
and soon...(in July)
Serenity the Comic Book:
http://newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27841

(just some fun things to entertain you while waiting for Sept 30th)

Anyway, welcome, visit the Blue Sun Room and discover the joys of fan fiction!

Welcome to our little corner of the 'verse! Don't forget that in addition to buying all those tickets the best way to get a sequel/trilogy is to recruit all your friends, family, co-workers, and random people you meet on the street. :-)

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

I've started a new strategy, it hurts, but it pays off.

Stop watching, for a long time. (That’s the hard part.)

Then watch it again (that’s the fun part)

It’s just like the first time, but better. You get the thrill of being surprised and such because you’ve gotten a bit hazy on exactly what happens when and how, but you still get to find new stuff every time you watch.

There’s nothing like the first time watching something, but that doesn’t mean you can’t beat it. You get to meet the characters all over again, but you already know you like them and care about them the first time you see them, and …

so forth, I’m on a rant, but I’ve run out of stuff to say, and I’m using commas instead of ellipses, the grammar gods will kill me.

Trust me, it works.

Not sure it would be a good idea for other –aholic things though.

-

Welcome here.

Hi, I'm new too! It's great isn't it? I just can't get enough of Firefly and this is one of the only fun Firefly-related things to do whilst counting down the days to Serenity! October 7th (UK people)! WOOHOO! I also agree with CHRISTHECYNIC. I've just done that, but it sure is hard. VERY hard.

...and we will call it...this land...

And yet another "newbie" here. A northern Browncoat and crew.

I found out about Firefly by stumbling on metion of it while surfin' the web for blueprints of spaceships-I know pretty geeky but I won't tell if you don't. I actually found 2 shows I hadn't heard of, Firefly and SAAB. I took a chance and bought the box set ($60.00 CAN), and sat down one night with a fellow softballer and our wives, both of which aren't big space movie fans. We proceeded to watch a few episodes together every Friday. The end result is 4 Rabid fans. And we're working on recruiting more.

I had heard of some of these. I'm not usually a comic fan, but Joss has surprised me enough times to make me believe in anything he has a hand in. Thanks for the list! Now I know what to look for....before I just knew that there were a bunch of comics set in the Jossverse, but had no idea which ones he wrote himself. And I did NOT know about the Serenity book. Yay!

And OMG King fans! b&b is my screen name on every board I frequent(it's just simpler that way). This is the first time ever, that anyone has understood what it meant right off the bat. Usually I have to explain...SO cool!!

CHRISTHECYNIC - Ive just tried out your strategy. It had been several months since the last (and first) time I watched Firefly, and I just watched it again over the space of a few days. It was wonderful! I had forgotten a lot of detail, since I had only seen it once, and it was like the first time again only even better! I watched Our Mrs. Reynolds very late at night in our room, with my poor husband who had to be at work early, sleeping next to me....I kept having to cram a pillow in my mouth to muffle the uncontrollable giggles that just kept getting louder.....great stuff!

Sigmanuki - Nope. How's that song go? "If loving Joss is wrong, I don't wanna be right...."

And everyone else - thanks so much for the warm welcome! Maybe it sounds kinda sad, but the warm reception here has sort of mitigated what has otherwise been a pretty crappy week. I'm very much looking forward to lots of good debatey fun here. You guys rock!
