There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I will be at the Austin screening, but so far the majority of people I have seen posting about it were unable to get tickets but might show up anyway in case someone has extras. What I want to know is how many Browncoats from the area were actually able to get their ticket(s), or did the scalpers get there first?

There has been a proposal by someone in Seattle that we conduct a food drive, not only to help out those less fortunate than ourselves, but also to help promote Serenity by getting some media attention. I am all for this idea, but since I live in Waco and won't be able to be there until a couple of hours prior to the screening, I wouldn't be able to do any of the arrangements for that.

Is this something we want to do, and if so, who can do the legwork? Anyone know someone at the Statesman or the Chronicle? Harry Knowles or someone else from aicn will likely be there so media coverage might already be guaranteed.

Also, will there be a pre-screening shindig, a post-screening shindig, or both? If so, where?

I'm not going to any screening (stupid class) but I think that this is a great idea & every city should be doing something like it.

I am in Fort Worth and was unable to get tickets because I found out about it too late. But am considering making the trip to Austin to show support for the movie, especially if I get a chance to meet other browncoats. I'll keep checking this posting for further information.

Howdy from Robogeek.com!

I'll definitely be at the Austin SERENITY screening -- and might even have an extra ticket (or two), which I'd be willing to sell at cost to a lucky Browncoat, but I won't know for sure until Monday or Tuesday. Feel free to go ahead and e-mail me at " robogeek @ robogeek . com " if interested, though please be aware I'm not making any promises.

Also, a pre- or post-screening Browncoats shindig sounds shiny!

I'm going to the screening in Austin and I live in Austin. I'd be glad to arrange this but I'm wondering how many hours in advance do you think I should be there. I have the next couple of days off to organize it but I don't want to organize it if nobody does it. So I need people to guarantee that they will participate. I'll even send an email to Harry Knowles to see if he will post it on aicn.

I bought 3 tickets right after they went on sale (about 2 a.m.). I have already sold the two extra tickets, but, I can't get to the theater until around 9:30, so I can't help with anything before the screening (stupid work).

We're planning on getting there 9-ish, depending on babysitting and will do what we can to help.

So I'll be there at about 8:30 to set up ( that is if the theater owners will allow us. Will call them later to find out) for those that would help let me know. Reply to this or email me at filmgoddess@mac.com

I'll be at the Austin showing, tickets in hand.

I don't know about helping with the food drive but I'll go grab some canned food to donate. If you can post about what you would like and where it is going to be donated that would be great. Thanks.

Thank you, filmgoddess, for stepping up and taking that responsibility. I shouldn't have any trouble getting there by 8:30 myself and will help out as best I can. I will also be bringing a bunch of food. In addition to checking with the theater and emailing Harry Knowles, try to contact the entertainment editors at both the Statesman and the Chronicle, and of course contact the local food bank for suggestions.

Browncoats are such shiny people!

Okay here's the thing. I can't seem to get a hold of the lady who does promotions for the theater. According to a manager at the theater this is who I need to talk to about this. I will continue trying but if I can't get ahold of her by Thursday then we won't be able to do it. If it doesn't go through maybe we can hold a shindig later on that will raise money as well as food for different causes. But again I will keep trying

I'll be waiting for further word from you, filmgoddess, and will do whatever I can. I realize this was all very short notice, so no problem if we can't make it work this time. We do have plenty of time to plan something similar for the official release in September.

Okay I finally heard back from her but she says that we have to contact Universal to set this up since they were the ones who set up all the publicity and promotions for this event. But she doesn't know who I need to talk to at Universal. So at this point b/c there's not much time left I'm going to give up. I still think we should do this just not at the screening. Before the opening of Serenity we should have a private shindig for Browncoats in the Austin area to raise money and food for charity. What do you guys think of this?
As far as a shindig after the screening, you could go to Kirby Lane. They're open 24 hours and it's very Austiny. I don't know how well they would do with a really large group. And I won't be there b/c I have work the next morning (damn work)

UNDERTHEDARK

Since there are so many different threads on the various, I've opened up a Yahoo Group called Austin Browncoats, so all of the Central Texas folks have one place to connect, coordinate shindigs, leave/find announcements about local happenings, etc. Please swing by, sign up for the group, load pics and announcements... whatever you like, (this is an all-ages group, so no naked Jayne scans please!). We could probably get a good grassroots thing going, maybe get the crew down here for some promotional shenanigans near premiere time... who knows? I'll cross-post to the other Austin threads and see y'all at the tailgate!
