SOUPCATCHER

I'm hoping to get some feedback that is spoiler free. If you've seen the movie, would you mind answering these three questions with either "yes", "no", or "I don't know"? And no further exposition (*editted to add: Or maybe just a little).

1. Did the movie scan ('verse and characters consistent)?
2. Do you think the movie is re-watchable?
3. Do you think non-fans will enjoy the movie?

My answers:

1. Yes (*eta: Absolutely and Gratifyingly Yes).
2. Yes (*eta: Yes! Ten times Yes!)
3. I don't know (*eta: It was impossible for me to erase two and a half years, numerous discussions, and repeated DVD viewings and pretend I was a non-fan. There's too much Firefly in my head. I just couldn't do it.)

* editted to add (Okay. After re-reading this thread my answers came off pretty dull. My first two answers, in actuality, are much more like CaptBaggytrousers. So I've updated them just a tad ).

EMBERS

yes

I will definitely rewatch, there were lines that got lost in a laugh or spontaneous applause...

Plus the show has a lot going on, the screen is full of interest that you can hardly take in because you are looking to just follow the plot the first time through (you know what I mean, all the subtle foreshadowing or textural things you can't take in on a first view).

and I know non-fans can enjoy it because there were a couple behind me at the Chicago show and they seemed to love it

1. Yes. God, yes. This is the crew of Serenity. This is the 'Verse. It's exactly where we left it and as shiny as we always knew it was.

2. Hells yes.

3. Ah. Now I dunno. I kept trying to see this with new eyes and I'm not sure how successful I was. It's nice characters and an entire universe which needs to be explained as we're rolling along in a breakneck adventure. Will people new to the 'Verse be a little lost? Sad to say, I think they may be.

On the other hand, I seem to recall a recent trilogy of movies which had a built-in fanbase, but also introduced an entire world, a Middle Earth to be exact, and nine heroes to start with and that seemed pretty easy to follow for new and old fans. Those films did okay, so I heard.

*This post is by Lobohan's GF, so don't blame him for any silliness. He'll beat me.*

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Probably, but I don't think the various emotions will be as strongly evoked in non-fans. Hopefully, they won't see it as another example of Hollywood making two similar movies at the same time. I certainly don't want this wonderful film compaired to any of Lucas' bilge. I'm sad that Serenity's release date was moved back, but I think it was an excellent idea.

"If they take the ship, they’ll rape us to death, eat our flesh and sew our skins into their clothing, and if we’re very, very lucky, they’ll do it in that order."

ECGORDON

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

1. Yes

2. Yes, but possibly not as many times as I had previously intended to, depends on the final cut.

3. I have absolutely no idea.
