it means a lot of things...
just think of anything that could be a 'signal' and that relates...

I think a lot it refers to how, after 'Firefly' was cancelled, the fans didn't just let it die.
We created new websites, and bought DVDs...
we kept the 'signal' going by having it talked about online.
How could Universal ignore the continued interest?

and a lot of stuff in the movie too....

"They come out of the black. . . They come when you call." --River, Re: the bluehands.

They've been called. The signal's gone out, and there's no stopping what's coming. . .

Well, I'd say that there are a lot of people who are interpretting it to mean something that it isn't intended to mean. There is (apparently) a specific meaning in the movie, and they are using it to entice people to come find out what it means. This is a historically used tool in marketting a movie, no big deal. You aren't supposed to know what it means. You're supposed to come see the movie to find out.

Now are any of these other interpretations of the subliminal meaning accurate? Joss only knows, and it really doesn't matter. Like anything else, we'll all believe what we want. (Good examples? See Finding Serenity for some good ones. I was going to provide a link to it on Amazon, but I can't figure out how to do with without it stretching the page annoyingly... )

Go ahead, stretch it annoyingly. I still think its a stupid slogan, I'm going to see it opening day anyway, but if I had never seen firefly or know who joss wheodn is (the majority of the world) I would never be enticed to see the movie b/c of it, in fact I would purposely NOT see it. It doesnt make any sense...

We're the signal, the heartbeat which refuses to go flatline.

We're here, and there's thousands of us.

Nope, ain't no stopping that signal.

Even if I would like to ask some fox execs "what's the frequencey, kenneth?"

I saw the screening and I can tell you if you want me to spoil it. It is not from the TV show. As Nathan put it in a Q&A after the show.. this is not the TV series (ppl asked about something else that was not in the movie).

It makes sense in the movie so don't fear!
