(How this got shunted into Yahoo Asia, I have no idea, just ignore that.)

I especially like this part:
Quote:

"Audiences want to see conflict and resolution. They want to see a progression, to see the characters learn something," he [Jeff Bartsch] said.

That process, argues the WGA, is called writing.

So, yeah. "Reality" TV "writers" want higher pay & benefits. Good for 'em.

Best part is, this may neatly cancel out what makes UnReality TV so cheap. More money going in means networks will shy away. Fewer UnReality shows means more time for, well, good programming.

Funny demands for people that shouldn't even exist. Maybe it will cause some suits to start thinking about that whole Reality/Writers paradox (just keep some distance, their heads are likely to explode from all the sudden insight).

Reality TV has writers? I thought that they just locked a bunch of retards in a room with a typewriter.

Well, you learn something new every day.

Reality TV is actually scripted, huh?

Yes, Reality TV is scripted. Watch Survivor, look for some camera, a producer, a mic of any kind, something production related. Can't find anything? You would think that you would see something especially since it is all being filmed on the spot and they can't correct mistakes.

Reality TV is scripted. The people are actors. And they film those scenes more than once. The studios have been tricking people for years now. I'm surprised more people haven't picked any of this up.

It's actually kind of sad. These people do creative work and not only do they get no credit, but everybody hates them. They were probably all once screenwriting hopefuls with a screenplay in the pocket and a dream of Hollywood writing careers. And this is where they've gone to watch their dreams die.

So if they want in on the union, I say good for them. They're still working. They should still be getting benefits.

By the way, joining the WGA simply means that for $250 in annual dues they get health care and a minimum wage. They also get writing credits that could help launch their careers out of the hellhole that is Reality TV. Sounds reasonable to me.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Good for them! Hopefully they will drive the cost to produce un-reality shows right through the roof. If that happens we will see a drastic decline in this scripted garbage on tv.

If you take what you said and replace "benefits" with "a horrible prolonged death", then I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Whereas 90% of everything is awful, 99% of reality TV is just diabolical. Everyone involved from the contestants to the producers to the viewers (especially the viewers) should find something else to do with their time.

Reality Writers... Isn't that an oxymoron?

Ohhh, maybe they'll go on strike and we'll get to not miss them at all for a, hopefully, very long time.

Oh great, then we'd be stuck with scab reality writers.
