I just thought I'd share this...

Lately I've been going through some hard times...financially, and also my Grandfather is about to pass away. At any rate, tonight I was feeling very sad about things, but these two quotes kept going through my mind...

"We're still flying." "That's not much." "It's enough."

"We've done the impossible. And that makes us mighty."

Anyways, those two quotes from Firefly have been a source of solace for me. Just thought I'd share with you guys.

It's funny how the small things in life often help us cope with the impossibly big things. We think about something that seems remote and unconnected to the troubles of our day-to-day existence and yet it gives us hope.

I hope that you keep your spirit up and remember, if you get down again, there's never a long distance to the nearest Browncoat.

We all need stories that inspire and anchor us. And this is especially true in the midst of crisis, when things are falling apart, when we are falling apart.

A particular scene in Return of the King helped me articulate my grief when my brother died suddenly. A friend's poem later helped me understand how to move forward emotionally.

I think a fundamental message in Firefly is that simply surviving can be an act of grace and heroism. I'm glad you're finding solace in this idea now. Hang in there.

I wish you best in your time of trouble and hope that you Grandfather goes peacefully (as I hope the same for my Grandmother).

Remember, if you can't run, you crawl, and if you can't crawl, well, if you can't do that, you find someone to carry you.

We'll be here.

Obviously it's nothing compared to what you're going through right now, but Firefly's seen me through some tough times at work... the line "Yeah, but she's our witch so cut her the hell down!" is the one that keeps me going.

I hope everything goes well with your grandfather.

Thanks for sharing.

I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer last year, barely 18 days from diagnosis to death.

She fell in love with Firefly after I lent her my DVD set. Watching the episodes now mean more to me because they, among other things, remind me of her.

I'm saddened that she won't be able to see the movie, which she was looking forward to when I told her about it.

Prayers to you and your grandfather.

Strange you should post this, the first four months of this year were the hardest for me since my mom passed away a decade and more ago. The Mrs.isall and I were in dark territory, lookin' maybe at throwin' in the towel. I had just descovered Firefly. The episode 'Out Of Gas' had me in tears at the end, and maybe kept me goin' a little more.
Things are way better now, and although there's more work to do, I'll quote Wash, " I love my wife".

TO all that have lost loved ones--I am sorry, very sorry for your loss.
Actually the one quote I always think of is what Nathan said about Mal in the 30 min doc.
"..... to continue"

I think thats what a lot of people do in parts of there life,to just get through it,while I havent't lost anyone I did hit a depression moment around the time the dvd's came out.I was not where I wanted to be(NYC or LA to follow my dream of being a stand-up comic,I was living with my mom and a step-dad that didn't want me to be there, in Waldorf,MD)anyway, when I bought these dvd's they gave me the strength to "continue"--less than 2 years later I am living near NYC,performing regually, met the love of my life(poppin the question this weekend),finished my first DVD and have had many promising auditions for commercials and tv gigs.Joss and crew may not realize this but I think the reason so many,if not all of us love this show not just for the writing and drama but because it touched a part of us that made us want to--the need to continue.......

"Hamsters is nice."

Yeah,"here's how's it is..."
I will be performing this sat. at a comedy club ,after doing a small set I will then start talking about my girlfriend telling the world on why I love her(they are also videotaping it,which I will transfer to DVD to send copies to my folks)then bring her up on stage and get down on---"well you know the rest"
What is sooooo cool is 7 of my friends will be there, and 28!!! of her friends will be there, they all know what is happening(even the club),she is going to be sooooooo surprised!!!! I cant wait for this. Wish me luck.

heehee,no not yet......(she has agreed to watch the show starting this aug--should give us enough time to see the series before the movie)See another reason I love her is that she is not that into sci-fi-(she likes the Star Wars trilogy and The lord of the Rings trilogy, and Lost--but thats it)-BUT she totally understands it and loves the way I talk about it "with such passion" So she is really starting to get interrested in the shows idea, and knows what this show means to me(she also loves my favorite musician-Peter Gabriel,so that's also a plus)Sorry if I babbled.
ps-there are A LOT of Browncoats, how many kisses are we talkin about here?

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Caite,

I am truly sorry to hear about your hardships and that your Grandfather is in poor health. As much as I wish it were otherwise, life has it's times of adversity. It is these times that test our character and it is in these times that friends become the support networks you rely on to help pull you through emotionally. My grandfather recently had a severe heart attack and we were certain we would lose him. Friends and family turned out to help out my grandmother and show concern & support for my grandfather and family. This concern touched me and made me realize that I am never alone, even if it feels like I am. The outpouring of concern and well wishes you are receiving here should be indication enough that you are not alone either.

I too have had moments where a quote or scene from a Firefly episode would help pull me through a rough or stressful spot. Odd how something like a tv show can touch your life, no?

Take care Catie & keep flyin'!
