I was scrolling down the IMDB page for Serenity (avoiding the trivia page) and lookin at the other stas credited alphabetically (*sp?) And i happened to notice that the girl who played River Tam in Safe is different that the one in the movie..

I just wantedted you people who have seen the movie to say if she was better than the one who was in Safe.
Movie: Hunter Ansley Wryn
Show: Skyler..cant remember the last name.

And PLEASE try to keep spoilers at the minimum...I have yet to see the movie...

REGINAROADIE

I havn't seen the flcik yet ( I don't think an advance screening of the movie will be coming to Regina, Saskatchewan anytime soon), but this thread does open up some questions.

Like, in future installments, if they should flashback to the Tam's childhood, or if an aged Gabriel and Regan return, will they cast the same actors as before (in this case William Converse-Roberts and Isabella Hofmann), or would they re-cast as in River's case. Personally, I'd like to see the original actors return for continuity sake. But if they do re-cast, I wouldn't mind seeing Joan Allen as Regan Tam. Mainly because, hey it's Joan Allen.

As for other supporting characters, the one I'm wondering about is Dr. Mathias. Mainly because he's being played by Christopher Guest vet Michael Hitchcock, who along with Alan Tudyk also did a guest appearance on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT as Ira Gilligan ("Please, call me Ira. I don't like Gilligan.") I'd just like to know if he's a good or bad guy. And whatever happened to Shohreh Aghdashloo? For a while she was listed on the Serenity page at IMDB.COM, but now she's off? Was her character cut? It kinda sucks, because she's such a classy lady. I always thought that she was somehow involved with Inara's storyline.

PHYSCHICK

The actresses play River at different ages, so no huge continuity error. I thought the one in the movie was a bit better match, looks-wise to Summer.

It's a rather small role - probably a bit smaller than the one on Firefly, so I'm not going to make a judgement as to whether she's better or worse than the other. They're about the same, I'd say.

I also thought the girl in the movie looked a bit more like Summer, and I think she sounded more like Summer's River. I knew she was supposed to be River the moment she started talking. I have more thoughts relating to this, but it's spoilery, so I'll keep them to myself till after the release.

Wow, I thought she looked NOTHING like Summer--she has a longer, aquiline nose, with freckles, where Summer has a shorter, slightly turned up nose. The acting was fine, though--no complaints there.

I didn't think the Movie-Young-River looked like River either, but that's neither here nor there.

As for why they didn't cast the Safe-Young-River for the movie...? Maybe she's too old now or isn't in the business anymore or just didn't wanna. "Continuity" really does depend on what the actor is willing / available to do.

There's a reason she sounded like Summer. It was Summer doing the voice-over in those scenes.

Yeah, how did you know Summer did voice overs?

The freckles didn't bother me. I had freckles on my nose when I was little but I don't anymore. Her lips were fuller than Summer's. I guess I think she had more of an aura of River, but maybe now it was just Summer's voice that made me think that.
Aw well. I liked both girls, it's all good to me. The only way they'd get someone who looked just like Summer was if they cast her younger sister. And since I don't even know if she HAS a younger sister...
