Most of the movies I own are from the 80's, so I thought it would be a real challenge to pick my absolute favorites.

I'm going with a top ten list, but feel free to post however many you want.

10. LEGEND. PROBABLY THE BEST FANTASY MOVIE EVER MADE. JUST LOOK AT THOSE SETS. AMAZING.

9. ALIENS. JAMES CAMERON AT HIS ALL TIME BEST. SCI-FI HAS NEVER BEEN THIS CREEPY.

8. THE GOONIES. SO MUCH FUN. THE BEST RAINY DAY MOVIE EVER.

7. THE BREAKFAST CLUB. HAD TO HAVE A JOHN HUGHES MOVIE IN HERE.

6. SAY ANYTHING. MAN, WHAT A GREAT MOVIE. LlOYD DOBBLER IS A CHARACTER I THINK EVERY GUY CAN RELATE TO. ESPECIALLY GUYS WHO HAVE BEEN DUMPED BY WHAT THEY BELIEVED TO BE THE PERFECT GIRL.

5. FRIGHT NIGHT. GREAT VAMPIRE MOVIE. ALMOST AS GOOD AS...

4. THE LOST BOYS. THE PERFECT VAMPRE MOVIE.

3. THE PRICESS BRIDE. NEVER GETS OLD.

2. GHOSTBUSTERS. NOTHING SAYS 80'S LIKE GHOSTBUSTERS.

1. HEATHERS. THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MOVIE. IT'S AS FRESH NOW AS IT WAS 1N 1989. IT'S FUNNY, DARK, COOL, ORIGINAL, AND A LITTLE SAD. THIS MOVIE WOULDN'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO BEING MADE NOWDAYS. MANY FILMS HAVE TRIED TO COPY THE FORMULA, AND THEY ALL FAILED BIG TIME. THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND MOVIE. THANK YOU NEW WORLD PICTURES.

REGINAROADIE

I'm not much of a fan of the 80's in general, but in no particular order, here are some of my fave films of that era.

The Indiana Jones trilogy
The Back to the Future trilogy (although part 3, my personal fave, came out in 1990)
RAGING BULL
AMADEUS (one of my all time fave movies ever)
Terry Gilliam's Dreams trilogy (which consists of TIME BANDITS, BRAZIL and THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN)
FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF (the only John Hughs film that really stands the test of time)
THE GOONIES and GREMLINS (perfect relics of the 80's)
BLUE VELVET (quintessential Lynch after TWIN PEAKS and MULHOLLAND DRIVE)

If I think of any other's I'll update.

I've done some thinking and I have come up with a list I am pretty happy with. There are some questionable selections. Keep in mind that I was not just listing the best movies: I was selecting the best movies with the best memories. Who knows what you were doing. Heh.

I second that. John Carpenter definitely has his moments, and BTLC is full of 'em. My wife doesn't even understand why I like it...but she likes Firefly just fine. When it comes to camp, some people like a dash and some like a dollop, I guess.

"Bridge of Birds" by Barry Hughart is a NOVEL from the 80s which employs a similarly clever, whimsical style: it cracks wise and still manages to create a magical atmosphere in "an ancient China that never was." I've long suspected Egg Chen(from the movie BTLC) is a descendent of Number Ten Ox(from the novel), if not the man himself

Kinda wish Joss Whedon would read it, too - we might see a little more than a superficial smattering of Chinese culture. He's capable of it, maybe he just needs to see it done well before he gives it a try. We already know he reads while on vacation!

I don't know how many times I've watched this one, maybe 40 or so. Probably more than that actually. I used to ride my bike up to the video store just to get this one movie. It was one of the few that my parents and I both enjoyed (and it didn't require parental permission to rent).
