I'd go with the Death Star that way I could take all these ships from all of you and have a place to put them.

In the Rougue Tropper gamecube game the B wings are pretty fun to fly. They're so unusual and they have a great cockpit aspect.

I'd have to say Boba Fett's ship Slave 1 is my favorite (sorry Serenity), because it's just too cool. Totaly modified, all kinds of weapons, tracking devices, cool way of flying.

CYBERSNARK

I've recently been re-playing my aging copy of X-Wing: Alliance, and I'd just like to share how much I hate B-Wings.

B-Wings are specifically designed to cripple & kill frigates. They do this remarkably well. The only problem is that everything else is specifically designed to kill B-Wings.

They're slow, awkward, and big enough to have their own gravity well that sucks in any stray fire in the area ("friendly fire isn't"). Because of their hugeness, enemy craft can lock missiles at up to three times the usual range. B-Wings are only really effective when paired with X-Wings and/or A-Wings as escorts.

For myself Id choose these:

Serenity (of course)
The Argo from Starblazers (originally the Yamato)
The Tardis
Millenium Falcon

Sorry Folks but Lo'Laan (from Farscape) has it all!

Cloak,
Personality,
DNA locks,
Sexy looks,
Fast,
And just like the Hulk, you never know how much of a blast can be sent out to vaporize your enemies.

Although I do have the say the Tardis comes in about even in my book.

Serenity feels like home to me (the Millenium Falcon is too dirty and, while the various Enterprise incarnations have better weapons, they're too impersonal).

After many years of many spaceships, my all-time favorite is Boba Fett's "Slave I". Though, it wasn't until Firefly that I could succinctly explain my love for that ship. Slave I has always seemed to me to be a one-man "Serenity".

Are we allowed spaceships from books?

If so:

Very Big Ship:
The Culture GSV "Sleeper Service"
(no crew, plus it would kick the death star's a$$)

Big Ship:
The Super Star Destroyer "Executor"
(needs crew, but you gotta love the ability to invade and conquer a fair size planet)

Medium Ship:
The Andromeda Ascendant
(for all the reasons given by others, plus the sexiest AI in three galaxies)

Small-ish Ship:
Serenity
(although you'd want the crew too... otherwise it would just feel weird)

Fighter:
The Viper Mk VII
(the new version of the Viper, from the new Battlestar Galactica... Tough call between the Mk 7 and the old MK 2)

The Palimino from "The Black Hole" is a little known choice. Cool little ship, and it was portrayed as having no gravity, more realistic than many. Never could could find a model of her.

Serentity is an obvious choice. I have always liked depictions of vessels without weaponry. More realistic in many ways, also leads to some..... interesting situations. Besides, she's one of the more unique ship designs lately.

The Victory Star Destroyer from the Expanded Star Wars Universe has also always held my fancy. Not quite the Imperials, but cool nonetheless.

And finally, the Battlestar Galactica from the new series. I like the design, I like the interiors. Well-done and very good looking.

We will call it...... This Land.
No! We will call it your grave!

Y'know....too much emphasis today is put on really big ships. Highly over-rated, and seems to me to be compensation for something.....

I'm with Rocketjock, I like the smaller ships.
Space 1999 Eagles were always a favorite of mine.

Like Oxyopia, I'll be showing my age by agreeing on the Starfighter from Buck Rogers. And I'd take a Viper over an X-wing anyday.

Of course the Serenity is a given.

And I have to mention the Millenium Falcon, Jupiter2 from the movie, the Diligent from the Wing Commander movie, and of course the Cygnus from The Black Hole.

For a big ship I'd take Galactica from the latest BSG. I recall the Enterprise from TOS got it's tail kicked by a Romulan nuke. Galactica seemed to weather the Cylon nuke that hit it pretty well. No accounting for yield, but still...

For ridiculously large ships I guess I'd have to go with the IAV Dortmunder... j/k How about the Lexx? Main weapon big enough to destroy a planet. Maybe a little undergunned for small ships, but what the heck, it's got style!

Hardware,

Love the fact that someone besidese myself remembers S;aab. Loved the show. Wasn't that on fox too? The hammerhead was great, sleek fighter. For something larger - the new Battlestar Galactica. Hey the the thing can take several direct nuclear hits. Who said size doesn't matter? Something in the mid-size range - the Sulaco - Aliens. Big enough to have two drop ships inside.

AA, (love the nick by the way.) S:AAB rocked. One of the early examples of Fux screwing over a series. Let's put it up against 60 minutes on Sunday night and advertise it like it is a kid's show, despite the fact that it is dealing with heavy themes. And oh yeah, we'll let football overrun into it's timeslot and not tell anyone what the plan is for showing the episode, start late or rejoin in mid-broadcast. Feh! I've been hating Fux for a long time.

But Apone's soliliquy from the Sulaco refers to "The Corps" as in the United States Marine Corps or it's equivalent.

Other than that +1!

The Dropship from the Sulaco (people mentioned the Sulaco, but not the little fighter). Thing could take out a brigade with its firepower.

Smuggling/Pirating/generally being bad guys: Millennium Falcon or Correllian Corvette Tantive V from Star Wars. I LOVE the look of Serenity, but I'd feel more comfortable with a ship with weapons!

Personal ship or fighter: Slave I, D'Argo's ship in Farscape or Darth Maul's ship

>The Argo from Star Blazers

I am suprised that this has only been mentioned once... I have always loved the Space cruiser Yamato (Argo, in the US). Beautiful ship... great story, at least the first couple of series anyway..

Another possibility would be Wolf-1 from the too short lived comic book series Dynamo Joe. Not exactly a ship (in more ways than one) for the maybe one of you out there that will know this obscure reference. But with Wolf-1.. I don't think ANYONE would bother you.. not the alliance.. not the reavers.. not the empire.. or the Klingons... or Cylons.. or Romulans.. or Borgs.. or anyone else. At least they wouldn't try twice.. if they lived the first time that is..

Hmm.. but all that aside.. if I HAD to choose one ship... hmm.. it would be hard to pass up the holodecks from the Enterprise.. but if I had those.. I probably wouldn't ever come out.. ... But Serenity is more than just a ship... it's more than just a thing to get from point A to B.. it would feel the most like home to me.

Someone asked a few weeks ago.. if you were a member of the crew.. what would the others think of you. And granted.. just being thrown into it tomorrow.. it would be scary as all gosset!!! I mean... gun fights.. running from the alliance.. reavers.. It's easy to talk about those things as fiction.. but in reality.. when was the last time any of us was in a gun fight??? Probably never. However... had I been born into and grown up in that environment.. that society.. that universe, No other place to me in sci-fi(that I will mention here anyway ) would feel more like home than Serenity. It's the gritty rusted underbelly of just about all the other Sci-fi out there... and that's exactly a big part of what draws it too me..

The one problem would be.. what would the other crew think of me? Well.. I would be )(#@*$)#(*$)#($ jealous as )#(@$*)#($* of Inara's feelings of Mal.. Hmmm... so maybe I would have to go for the holodecks..

Smaug..

Having played through X-wing, Tie Fighter, and X-wing vs. Tie Fighter, I am a bit biased towards the Tie Defender as my favorite interceptor/fighter. However, I was always partial to the Vasudan Destroyer for some type of major Capitol ship. they may not have been the most powerful Capitol ships, but they were, "Aesthetically Pleasing." Maybe you can tell I played Freespace a bit too when I say that I like the Valkrie Fighter. I don't think I'll include too many Star Trek Ships... Never cared for the Feds, they looked like they'd be pretty weak against a snub fighter (get in under the shield and torpedo the connection twixt the Nacelle and the Saucer). I'd like to throw a bit of defense in the direction of the B-wing. Yes, they do stink in Star Wars: Rebel Alliance, but that game isn't exactly designed to be a snub fighter game.

Now to put these all in order...

1. Valkrie (Freespace)
2. Tie Defender (Star Wars Universe)
3. Vasudan Destroyer (Freespace)
4. Thor's Chariot(Stargate)
5. SDF 1 (Robotech)
6. Andromeda(Andromeda)

I doff my very fine hat to you, StarPilotGrainger; your post got me to register with fff.net. Brian Stableford is sadly overlooked as a writer of classic spanner and grommet space operas and I have read several copies of his Granger series to death.

My nominee is the spaceship from It! The Terror From Beyond Space. In the far off future of 1973 it is a roomy, single stage to orbit ship that is so ruggedly built, you can let off 11 hand grenades in the ventilation system and have a bazooka fight on the bridge.

Sure, it looks like the hood ornament on a 1954 Olds but it far superior to anything we have today. A close look at the ship's plan in one scene shows it doesn't carry any fuel and yet it can maintain 1g acceleration all the way to Mars and back.

I don't know if any others have thought this but wouldn't it have been fun if Joss had shot some scenes in Bronson Caves (Batman tv, It Conquered the World, Wild Wild West, Robot Monster) and Vasquez Rocks (where Kirk battled the lizard man and many others) as a tip of the (very fine) hat to those who came before?

I can only express puzzlement, that borders on alarm.

Big considerations for me in cruising around the 'verse would be ease of use, crew size, and comfort (let's face it, goin from place to place in the black leaves a lot of time for sittin around and waiting).

The Lexx would be easiest to use and maintain, also pretty intimidating (what w/ destroying planets and all) but not too comfortable.

The Sol Bianca's pretty classy but notorious so folks would always be gunning for you.

Firefly has style and a homey feel but you'd need a skilled crew and lots of tlc.

The Falcon is very cool but not too comfy and about to fall apart any moment.

Any of the later mod. Enterprise (or Voyager even) would be the most comfortable but too big in crew req.

Runabouts and Eagle too small and spartan.

I'd take any of the above (oh ok, even the Heart of Gold for that matter) but final choice would probably be the Andromeda.

This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight...turbulence and then explode.

Always liked the USS Defiant, sort of the muscle car of Starfleet.

But one of the graceful looking ships of all of Sci-Fi was the Enterprise D- well the exterior anyways- the interior looked like a gorram Holiday Inn.

And I've always had a softspot for the Earthforce Destroyer from B5 with the spinning section- it looks cool and nasty.

So I'll take the Defiant ( with the optional holodeck sunroof and cupholders) with Serenity for weekend trips with the kids.

Of course, the Serenity is at the top of the list, but the Millenium Falcon would be pretty shiny too. Also up there would be Moya from Farscape. A living spaceship - how cool is that?

I've been in love with the Millenium Falcon since the first time I saw her.
I tried to steal her once, but Han shot me. (Picky bastard! I woulda brought her back!)

TRISTAN

Event Horizon
Serenity
The fighter from Last Starfighter
Challenger (OV-099)
Columbia (OV-102)
Vipers from original BSG

That's all that comes to mind right now.
