Are Nielsen ratings the only way stations track their viewership?
My guess is that like me, many not-so-new fans of the show who own the dvd set would rather watch DVD quality Firefly (16:9) without commercials, especially since as I understand it, our tvs are not being "watched." I caught the first one for the thrill of Firefly on live tv, but since then... not so much
So how many of you are watching and how many are not? Just trying to understand the 1.2 - 1.7 ratings.

I'm watching it. It's kind of nostalgic to see it again on broadcast tv - commercials and all. Also, the Serenity teasers are cool.

Another watcher here, sort of! I DVR it, and then fast forward to the weekly Serenity trailer/clip of the week.

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

I'm watching every Friday! This is the first chance I've gotten to see the intros and the glowing firefly at the end. I enjoy actually seeing it on tv, even though it's not widescreen and commercials interrupt it.

I am! I have the DVDs, my original tapes, and files of all the broadcast episodes on my computer. I am often at the Sunday VShindigs and watch episodes there. But I'm still watching and taping on Friday nights. And I'm recording and posting the 1-minute Serenity previews as torrents.

I missed the first two hour episode and a friend of mine lent me her scratchy, almost inaudible video tape of it and even so I liked it so much I've started watching on Friday's trying to figure out if I want to buy it or not. It's telling that I've already started asking around for the best price...

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'm watching and taping them. I have already sent a tape of "Serenity" and "The Train Job" to a couple of friends in Alabama who had not seen it before and do not have cable. I intend to compile two sets of tapes, one taped in SP mode with three eps each on five T-160 tapes, and another set in EP mode with all eps + the Serenity special on two tapes.

I'm watching it because 1) I'm getting my mom into the show and 2) it's on right before all-new episodes of Stargate SG-1, which I watch every week anyway. Oh, and 3), there's nothing else on at that time, anyway *g*

I'm watching it when I can, mostly so I can catch the Serenity features. Also, it's kind of interesting seeing it with commercials. There's a rhythm to good television, and the writers took those breaks into consideration, often leaving us with cliffhangers right before the commercials. Even though I know what's coming, I like observing the artistry involved.

Interesting - noticed a few saying this. Are these different than the 3 featurettes on the extra disc that came out with the recent Battlestar Galactica season one dvd set (UK version)?

Watching it, via VCR timeshift, which has the beneficial side effect of giving me a new set of loaner copies. A Browncoat can always use another set of loaner copies...

Can't help myself... GOT ta' watch!!! Plus, it's a great oppurtunity to get friends and family to watch. I've got my little brother hooked, and now I'm working on my mom and dad. I dig the DVDs, but there's nothing like seeing it on SciFi Friday!

Be Blessed!

What are these tapes you speak of?

My last VCR bit the dust about 2 years ago. I recently finally bought another one for the express purpose of watching my original FOX broadcast episodes. Kinda neat watching them with all the old commercials.

As far as the SciFi episodes go, thank god for DVR. I don't get home from work until 8pm.

Unfortunately Nielsen is the only way Networks track their viewers.

I TiVo it because someone told me that does some good. Apparently TiVo reports their numbers to somebody. But not advertisers 'cause they know we're TiVo-ing to fast forward through commericials. So how don't see how TiVo-ing helps...but just in case.

Anyway I fast forward through it at the slowest motion and stop for favorite scenes. Like last week I stopped to watch the interrogation montage. Great way to get to know 7 of the 9 (not a Borg reference) characters, great writing, great editing in that sequence.

But I'm not watching the trailers 'cause I want to see as little as possible of the movie and I figure the behind the scenes stuff will end up on the DVD.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Every Friday night like clockwork. Of course our family don't have a Neilson box, but who cares.

One of surely many who would not even be aware of Firefly had sci-fi not started airing it (not pluggin sci-fi, just never watched fox). Was such an unexpected and fantastic thrill, couldn’t believe I’d never heard of it before.

Double stroke of luck, happened to be set to record and have the four eps aired so far.(aware there’s dvd set, but this is free and getting the Serenity trailers also)

Ironic now, greater anticipation of the next Firefly than the original sci-fi lineup was watching, though still enjoy those. (have noticed a considerable number of ads for firefly and Serenity during week)

I missed this week's because I left my VCR on when I went out of state. That also made me miss all of Sci-Fi Friday.

So what was the Serenity special thingee this week? What did I miss?
