I expected the movie to be very good, great even, but it went much farther than I'd expected it to.
The questions it answered and 'underlying evil' story it told were amazing.

How about it, were y'all:

A) Seein' it coming, and happy as Heck
B) Blown away even more than you thought possible
or
C) Too hurt at this time of grief to care

Chrisisall checks the 'B'

Blown away! Saw it twice in two nights! And I still managed to be outdone by a student who saw it three times over the weekend! :D

How about thrilled beyond belief?
and the second time I saw it I was swept away with enjoyment?
and the third time I saw it I was happy and excited...
then there was the fourth time I saw the BDM and I was STILL on the edge of my seat, laughing and crying....

we'll see if I can take it for granted the 5th time I see it...
but I doubt it.

Absolutely blown away!! It was all at once the most fun I've had in 2 hours, emotionally taxing, thrilling, sad, scary... and probably the best movie-going experience I've ever had! Thank you Joss, Universal, and all our Big Damn Heroes!!!

Sadly, I've only seen it once. It's not because I didn't adore it (because I really, truly do)... nope, I'm just completely flat out broke ;) Trust me when I say, though, as soon as I can find a way - I'll be going back to see it and will continue to do so whenever I can until it's out of the theatres... and then I'll buy the DVD *g*

We're still flyin'!!

Slightly disappointed in a few minor things.
As good as I expected for a lot of it.
Totally blown away by the majority.

Saw it twice this past weekend, and I've never done that for any other movie. I plan to see it again next weekend.

I'm too grief stricken at this moment to express how much this movie rocked my world. But it seems that everytime I watch it, I'm filled with lots (and lots) of different emotions. On the one hand there's the thing about the movie completly awesome and then on the other hand you got your

dead book and wash.

I dunno, I'll go see it again in a week and see if I'm ready to accept what has happened.

But it was sorta like the matrix revolutions, I had this idea about the plot of Serenity, and for months I just KNEW that the movie had to be about my idea, and then I saw the movie, and I was like, ...oh...well I guess that's good too.

/thought matrix revolutions was actually going to be about a matrix within another matrix, thats why Neo could do all that crazy stuff in Xion...guess I was wrongo

I'm going to go with "B." I walked in figuring "Serenity" would have a firm place in my top 10 somewhere, but never did I imagine that it would be the absolutely, hands-down, most intense cinematic experience ever. Never have I reacted to a movie the way I reacted to "Serenity" (read: profuse weeping and laughter and every emotion known to man).

Keep in mind, I consider myself something of a cineaste. My favorite films range from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" to "The Big Lebowski" to "Dr. Strangelove" to "Rushmore" to "Ran", so I'm not a complete backbirth.

Flying on duct tape and a damaged registry.

I have to go with 'B'. The first time, I couldn't bring myself to stand up when it was done. Just about the time my legs jelled, the "re-engineered" Firefly Theme started. Back into the seat *thud*. I heard a few people singing along.

I only saw it twice this weekend. The second time was even more enjoyable because I caught more and I wasn't as much in shock.

I won't be able to see it next weekend, but the weekend after that, we're going again.

Hold the valley!

Sadly, I felt it did not live up to expectations.

The explaination is very spoilerriffic, soo..

Select to view spoiler:

WTF was up with Mal's totally drastic personality change, he start smokin crack or what ?

Jayne came across so thin and weak character-wise I was looking to see around the edges of the cardboard cutout they must have been using to replace Adam with..

Where did that wonderful crew-chemistry go, they're all suddenly strangers to each other all of the sudden ??

Where went that wonderful westernish element that made serenity something other than just another sci-fi yawner ?

Can we please, PLEASE shoot the guy who did the scoring and bring back Greg ? pretty please ?

Why did Joss lift a really bad plot line from Johnny Mnemonic instead of going with the now-mysteriously-evaporated blue hand guys ?

I know that Joss originally wanted Mal to be 'darker' and for Simon to be somewhat nefarious, but what came to be in actuality was something special, and I just feel Joss kind of hosed it by going back and radically changing characters we had grown attached to.. it did not connect, lacked the chemistry, and just felt entirely forced.. although I tried very hard to lose myself in the movie, the jarring raw notes just kept kickin me back out, and it's sad too, cause I desperately WANTED to love this movie.

And I don't.

It breaks my heart to say this, but I give it 6/10.

My expectations were exceeded and I was totally blown away. Gotta tell ya, I bet I took the gold - saw it 3 times in 3 days. And I swear I took a little more away from it each time. For those that felt slightly disappointed (GASP!), I recommend seeing it again. I wouldn't doubt that some of the "shocks" of the movie might have turned you a bit. In fact, if you thought the characters varied from the series, watch it again and you'll realize the movie was true. The series just never had the time to reach the depth that Serenity went to.

But in my book, the movie was wonderful. The series was never supposed to be soft and cuddly, and to that end, the movie did justice. It was entirely is the world of Firefly, true to the end. I thought it was outstanding, start to finish. There were surprises - good and bad, some lose ends were tied up, etc. It was honest, strong and really made me believe in heroes.

It was nice to see all our friends again, wasn't it? Good on you, Joss!

For those of you who are suprised by Hands of Blue not being in the movie:

Select to view spoiler:

Hands of Blue were killed off in the comic, I think they were intended to be teh "Big Bad" of season 1, which the comic sort of wrapped up with the movie being effectively Season 2 and thus having a new Big Bad, in standered Joss style.

For our dissapointed commrade, I think reading the comics would really help you understand the nature of the personality shifts in the characters. They are desperate, far more desperate than they have ever been before, and that leads to people being very edgy and unfriendly. Also, I in no way could describe the plot as lame. I guess I can see the comparison to Johnny Mnemonic in that it was an effort to get a message out, but it was so much better done and about a very real phenomenon in our society.

We may not have developed chemicals to try to pacify whole planets yet, but the desire is certainly there and all the efforts leading up to it are there. I went with a friend who is a teacher, and he was amazed at how real the scenes with River in school were, and it is those things that lead to experiments like they were performing. So many people want a world without sin, Joss is trying to give an idea of why that just can't work.

Overall, the movie blew me away. I loved every minute of it. It brought me in more than any other movie I can think of. Just amazing.

Concerning the Hands of Blue... Really? Is the comic actually canon to the story? (I know some franchises will come out with comics of whatever their product is, but the comics aren't actually canon to the real story.) If they are canon, where can I order them? And can I get them all together? How much would getting them all cost? Or if you could, since I actually don't have the money to spare to buy the comics, could you or some one scan the comics onto their PC so I could read them? Seriously I would buy them (and the Serenity action figures) if I had the money to spare. Well I do, but then I wouldn't be able to get the multiple other things I really want.

Well if no one can or won't scan the comics for me then can I get a link to where I can order them? That way when I eventually got the money I can get them... I'd apprciate a scan though since I don't know when I'll be able to get them myself.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Definitely blown away. The BDM was an emotional roller coaster ride from start to finish. By far one of the best movies of all time in my opinion.

I don't want to say I was disappointed, but I wasn't totally blown away either. In the end, I think I would have enjoyed 2 new episodes of the tv show over the 2 hour movie. I guess they are different mediums, because the tv show, while lacking the effects and action of the movie, had better story telling. Even if I was in a bda mood on a Friday night and wasn't planning on sticking with Firefly, I always got wrapped up in the stories. I felt the movie didn't have that. The first hour of the movie seemed to drag, but I really enjoyed the second hour, but again from an action perspective, not a story perspective.

Again, I had a good time and I enjoyed the movie, so disappointed isn't a fair way to characterise my thoughts, but definitely not totally blown away, either.

Shoot me if I ever say I think a character from a tv show is a part of my family.

B. Loved it, not just as a Firefly movie, but as a movie in general (I'm only starting to learn to appreciate directing and cinematography, but this is what a movie should be).

And I'm in the same boat about the comics.

You can order #2 & #3 or preorder the TPB (out in January) from Things From Another World ( http://www.tfaw.com/), but they're sold out of #1.

I managed to find #2 in a brick'n'mortar store in another town, but now I'm outta luck on finding the others.

Ditto. Also have a transportation issue. Was planning to see it again tomorrow (my birthday), but the theatre just ended their weekday matinees, so it only plays at 7:15, when the busses are. . . unreliable.

Maybe I'll hear from my cousin's family and they'll offer me a ride. Can't drag my mom to it, 'cause I know she'd hate it. (She doesn't like movies where there's emotions. Or bad things happening. Or confusing things. Or colour.)

Frem, take a few days off, then see it again, I think you'll see it in a whole new light, especially after reading the comics that Joss himself penned the story for.
The first time seein' a movie for me absorbs the trauma; the second is where I can actually enjoy it, maybe it'll be the same with you, eh?

Too grief-stricken, it seems. I don't know if I can handle it again, which is why I've only seen the movie once.

In fact, I'm not sure if I can muster up the nerve to see it a second time. KF
