I saw Serenity last Friday with a buddy of mine, we didn't have anything to do so we decided to go see a movie. Now neither of us had ever seen or heard of Firefly (i actually have ever of firefly but since it was slated for friday even i never really got a chance to see it because of work and other personal stuff, i really wished i had caught it when it first aired) but he said that he had heard good things about Serenity so we went and saw it.

I loved the movie and decided to check out the show. Needless to say i was really disappointed that the show was cancelled so prematurely. So i bought the Firefly season DVD on good faith that the show would be as good as the movie. Needless to say i was blown away by how good it was. I have a few other friends i'm confident that i can convert :)

i plowed throught the dvd and now i'm heartbroken that i will only be able to watch it on dvd, but it's so good that i'm watching it all over again.

Now Jayne is by far my favorite character i think my favorite scene of his was during "Objects in Space" when Early has the crew captive and Jayne grabs his blanket to show his collection of guns only to cozy himself up to get back to bed!!!

what's everyone's favorite scene???

Did you notice he drooled on his pillow when he was busy sleeping through Early taking over the ship? Love that bit.

Wash with the dinosaurs is right up there,
and the last scene in the movie tags it just right.

It's so cool to hear the stories of the people who saw the movie first, loved it, and went out and bought the series on DVD. That right there oughta prove how well Joss did in making the screenplay accessible to the uninitiated.

My favorite scene? Easy: The flashback in "Out of Gas" of Mal hiring Jayne away from Marco.

"Shut up." Gunshot. "How big a room?"

XEROGRAVITY

Hard to pick a favorite scene. Loved every last minute of it. If I had to choose just one, would most definately be in train job when Mal kicks the viking mobster goon into the engine intake.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I've seen that scene played out badly in film. The defeated bad guy vows to come back and get you later, and the classic response is for our hero to utter some "I'll be waiting for you" line. Never believed anyone in real life would sit still and take it.

Needless to say, that was the first howl of laughter Whedon ever got from me (and certainly not the last).

XG

No such thing as gravity. The "Earth-that-was" just sucks.

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

Welcome to the 'verse! Finding Firefly is sort of blessing and a curse, ain't it? I'm happy to hear you found your way here, and that you've spread the good word to thems that need it.

Fav scene? Are you KIDDING me ? Where to begin? How to choose?

River's 'fixing the bible' scene w/ Book will always be right up there, not to mention "TOO MUCH HAIR!

Jayne huddled up in the rafters as Simon tends to Kaylee's gunshot wound.

River and Simon's touching scenes are a good bet to get my eyes to mist up a bit still. Yeah, I'd have to go w/ one of those.

'Safe'. From the moment Simon steps on the bonfire to the 'cut her the hell down'.

That, to me, encompasses all that's great about Firefly. The writing, directing and acting are all flawless. Get a lump in my throat every time.

I have two types of fav scene. Technical and Humor.

Technical Fav-Trash-Scene where Mal and Saffron are talking in the shuttle after the job and Mal sits down next to her. If you watch, she actually lifts his pistol and swaps it in her hands behind her back. Great little detail.

Humor Fav-Pilot Episode-Mal tells Simon that Kaylee is dead, you know the rest. That scene got me hard. I couldn't breathe for at least 5 mins. It was my first episode ever and I was as convinced as Simon. Perfect.

well you didn't think that this is ONLY a movie & a TV show did you? be sure to read the comic books (series of 3 published by Dark Horse, called 'Serenity')

and have you watched the pre-quel videos?:
http://www.session416.com/mirrors
or
http://www.hittarivertam.nu/

enjoy! (and welcome)

and like the others, I might be able to pick out a favorite scene out of each episode...but I'm not sure just one from the whole DVD set....

I loved River trying to eat the frozen 'planet' at the beginning of 'The Message'

I always love Jayne (isn't Adam Baldwin amazing?!)

Inara was my least favorite character, but at the end of 'Trash' when she got the drop on YoSafBridge (with the veil protecting her delicate skin from the sun...TOO cute) - I really loved her in that!

Everyone is so good...and those small moments, that really define the character, are always the best.

INEVITABLEBETRAYAL

In terms of sheer humor, I'd have to go with the teaser to our Mrs. Reynolds.

Jayne: Oh, I think you might wanna reconsider that last part. I married me a powerful ugly creature.

Mal-in-drag: How can you say that? How can you shame me in front of new people?

Jayne: If I could make you prettier I would!

Mal-in-drag: You are not the man I met a year ago.

Classic.

Also in Our Mrs. Reynolds, when Mal tells Zoe to get Wash down to the cargo bay, and Zoe cheerfully summons all hands to witness Mal's humiliation.

Oh, BTW, welcome to the new guy.

Like they say. Too many to choose.

Very early one-liner. "Now I can't get down..."

Zoe zapping the doctor.

"...what the hell you been say- Whoa!" (The only time I can recall Zoe actually being taken aback.)

River when she smiles. (Dancing. Hiding out on the hull. "Permission to come aboard.")

Clark Gable's dad rescuing Kaylee.

"I can see I'm not dealing with an idiot."

The boys and girls getting tooled up to rescue
Mal.

Any scene with Jayne in it.

Book suddenly getting tough. Doesn't just hit Dobson - he absolutely flattens him in grand style and then stands over him, facing everyone else down.

River shooting people. (I think this scene is The One that answers the question "Should I see the series or BDM first?")

If you've already seen her smacking folk, the impact just can't ever be anything close to seeing that scene cold.

I've learned this bit of medical terminology, and I'm going to use it, no matter what.

Jaynestown...
Jayne's hero status is going to his head and he says-
"Me! Jayne Cobb!"
Mal-
"I know your name, jackass."

Never really laughed at that line until a few days ago, when I saw it again and it had me in stitches.
Seriously, I'm laughing right now.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site & the fandom Futang17! Glad to have you aboard!

As you see, Firefly & the movie "Serenity" are something special. I wish more people who have not heard of either would be a bit more open minded & give it a chance.

So, go out there & introduce it to everyone that you can! We need to get people into the theatre to see the movie in order to have any hope of sequels.

Like most others I have trouble coming up with a favorite scene, but one pair that always get me are with Simon and Kaylee in Jaynestown,

"Things are going WELL"

and "so, when we made love last night..."

I'll echo what others have said, about how difficult it is to pick a favorite scene, BUT, I really love the moment in "Trash" when Mal walks up the ramp onto the ship, just as bare as the day he was born, and casually gives Wash and Zoe their next tasks. The looks of comlete discombobulation from those two are priceless, (as is the fact that Kaylie takes it completely in stride). That (to me) also indicates real ability. Must be very hard to act completely at-a-loss.

Anyone have a least favorite? Mine is "Heart of Gold." It felt too much like regular teevee. There were too many holes in the logic and you could see right where the whole thing was going pretty early on.

Anyone wanting Firefly in Australia I did a bit of a shop around Melbourne and they are hard to come by, despite it not being shown on Australian television, it is getting sold out. Sanity has an article about it in their Magazine. JB hifi has copies of the complete series( all of it ) at $36 AUD and they seem to be selling quite well, at that price for the whole lot no wonder!

I would have to say at the end of "war stories" where Mal and Zoe are going to have to get jiggy. hahah Wash was like "huh". I thought that was a great scene.
