So yes, I got to meet Adam Baldwin. It was short & brief, but soooo worth the trip. He has got to be the most fan-friendly "star" I've ever met. I had heard from PsychicRiver that he (Adam) liked the Jayneisms shirt. I set out to give him one in person. Now being a man of not much coin I didn't vie for the "Speed Pass or VIP pass" I figured I'd just take my chances on the good ol General Admission 5$. It was great, I quickly explained that I had heard that he liked the shirt and wanted him to have one, As soon as he saw the "Jayneisms" he gave a smile of recognition and said "Oh yeah!" To say the least it made my day, week, month & most likely year. A friend caught it on Vid so I'll try to snap the best shots from it for later. It would have been nice to get a posed pic with Adam but his time was getting very short and the line was still all manner of long. My wife FixedbyFaith was there with me (dressed as Kaylee of course) and she was very happy about meeting Adam as well. He signed a pic to both of us.
We also met several great Browncoats, though names may escape me right now. I should add I was in full Browncoated (Mal like) garb. It was all manner of shiny to have folk wanting to get pics with fellow costumed Browncoats. FBF & I tried to get pics with as many Browncoats as possible. It was an awesome trip. Also, ran into a few of the Red River Rebels along the way it was quite nice to see them folk again.
A few times in the midst of Browcoatish folk I asked if there were any FFF.net people in the crowd. I got a few responses, but not to the degree I was hoping. Was hoping to put some faces to the names of the folk on the board I consider "friends" Well nough said for now. All in all it was a shiny trip, and worth the journey.

I hadn't done the whole "dressing up as a much beloved character" at past cons I've attended - what with all the rotund jedi and unwashed klingons - wasn't an idea I was cotton to. Sure, if I was really jazzed about a movie, I might buy a tee-shirt emblazoned with the film's logo to wear while I waited in line for a few hours, but not much else.

With Serenity, though, I felt like I was in some small part responsible for the film's existence (largely due to the fact that I dragged most of my friends over to watch the box set) and that as a fans, we were the authors of the movie's fate. So I dug deep into my pockets and ponied up the plats required to make a passable Mal costume while my friends did the same. I felt a bit odd walking into the local megaplex in full Browncoat regalia, but I was confident that the recognition of other fans would justify the expense and eliminate the awkward feelings.

I was sorely dissapointed. True fans appeared few in number, and the most significant responses received by my friends and I were half-hearted nods or confused pointing (we were, after all, wandering around with character-appropriate weapons strapped to us). Even the "for fans, by fans" private showing we attended the next day seemed colder than the fan gatherings described on these very boards. Again, we were the only ones in costume, and again we felt more avoided than welcomed.

So it was with some trepidation that we put on our browncoats for DCC. We had been dissapointed enough that some of us left our costumes off rather than go through the trouble of strapping on all the bits and bobbins only to earn an unenthusiastic wave, but we rationalized that if Adam was to be there, we had to show our support.

The experience at DCC was unlike anything I had allowed myself to expect. It was like we opened a set of unassuming doors and found a mighty fine shindig on the other side. Other fans greeted us by our character names with enthusiasm, and other Browncoats in crew attire were quick with the compliments and eager to pose for photos. Even I, usually very camera shy, was happy to stop for photos. I met StillShiny and FixedbyFaith in line for Adam Baldwin, and they seemed like capital folk.

Because of my DCC Browncoat experience, I find myself eagerly looking forward to the next potential fan-gathering (which I assume is November's Wizard World in Arlington). Technically not a Firefly event, but I think with enough enthusiasm, we could make it one.

Now, that's what I'm talking bout. FBF & I felt the same way. We had a similar experience at our Premiere showing. Now, I will say we we're at the late showing and not the "opening" but we felt a wee bit funny in OKC. There were some Red River Rebels there and that made the two hour trip worth it. But by that time of the evening the "costumed" folk were a bit few.

The Dallas Comic Con made up for it. I rather enjoyed meeting JonathanStrange. And if memory sereves correct you were there with a Kaylee. If so that was one of our favorite moments and we will be posting that pic later. I'd gladly include the "Kaylee's" name in the caption if you provide it.

And yes, we will have to keep an open ear on the Arlington event.

Also, We so thought the same in regards to the "Con-Funk" of unwashed Klingons. There was a wrongness to that that cannot be described. I think even "Reavers" would be good enough to embrace the soap while sewing a flayed victims skin into their own.

did anyone ask Baldwin what he thought about the possiblities of a sequel?

Well, I sort of did. I'll have to transcribe his exact response later, but he was rather open to either a sequel or a second season, yes, that's right he wasn't completely closed to the whole second season idea. Like I said I'll post a quote of the question & answer later, and leave it to interpretation. Don't wanna be accused of starting up a rumor mill.

The afforementioned Kaylee is my friend Beth. The scruffy-looking gentleman (with shiny hat!) is her b/f Eric, who was originally our Wash, but was then unseated and agreed to be our Jayne.

As to Arlington, I think its high time we put the word out.

And I'm glad he remembered it! (So what if he didn't remember me the second time I met him...but now I know, he remembers the shirt I was wearing!)

I can just imagine him saying it, in my head.

That is so cool. I wouldn't be surprised if he's snapped wearing it now at some con!

My B-frined and I were there..Was your wife wearing a dress or was she in a pantsuit?
We were sitting on the 2nd row in the General Admission section and were seated next to some people in great costumes!

It was a great Q&A session with Adam- I really liked that it was non-moderated- very open and free flowing.

He is very open and easy going! Very funny as well. We had the best time..I can honestly say he was the soul reason we went yesterday afternoon.
My bf is a HUGE comic book freak and he wasn't interested in anything else other than seeing Adam..

She was in a pantsuit, Her coveralls were tan with many patches & some puffpaint. She had a red & white flower / tiedye shirt underneath. Her hair was in two bunches on the sides.

I had a long brown coat a bit more tan in color but very long & flowy. with the standard maroon mal shirt, suspenders, holster & tan pants. I had dark maroon glasses.

I managed to get a question in at the Q&A..and was the first in line for the GA autographs. Um...people might remember me as being the one that he got behind the table for a picture with (after he'd stopped doing the posing with people thing). He had to get on his knees because I'm so short, but it was cute..and I got a hug and a kiss (his request). I also gave him a book that my dad had given me once that I thought he'd like since he's into westerns.

I'm not sure who anyone was behind me in line, but a few said they were from here. A guy in a brown Serenity shirt..and a girl in a really good Zoe costume.

So, there's more I could say (all good), but that's all I feel like sharing at the moment.

Hmm...well, the thing about him going ahead and doing the picture with me...he knows me from the OB. He'd even asked some of my friends about me at Dragon*Con. I think he was just honestly surprised and tickled to see me there...and that's why he told me not to worry about waiting on a photo with him. I doubt he'd have gone ahead and posed with me at that time (rather than have me come back later) if he didn't know me from the OB.

It was sweet when he got on his knees for the picture though. I'm incredibly short (5'2" compared to his 6'4") and I'm not sure he realized it till he stood up because as soon as he did, he started laughing a little and then got down on his knees. The second photo I got with him when we came back later, he sat down on the table kinda and slouched over.

I'll have to try pestering him on the OB to see if he enjoyed the book. If I find out what he thought, I'll try and mention it here on this thread for anyone that's curious.

Oh my if Adam were to drop a post here, or have a message left here that would be so cool. FixedbyFaith & I both realized that even though we signed his card with our real names & nicknames we should have at least given him our e-mail or told him what boards we posted on. If you have a "connection" with him maybe you could pass that info on. We'd take it as a kindness.

Found this online it's a few pics of the "guests" and a good wmv of the Q & A time with Adam. You can download the vid as one file, or individual clips by question.

The guy asking the question about a second movie or second season is me.

If anybody else has pics from the event it would be great to get em posted. I'll try to get ours posted in the next couple days.

I don't really have a "connection" since we don't really email anymore, but if he answers me over at the OB, I'll be sure to pass it along. It's funny, but I don't think the man has any idea what my real name is. My sister briefly mentioned it at the signing...and I use to sign it in my emails, but he knows me by Jynk. So, the little letter I gave him was signed with my name and nickname and I stuck my email in it. He's really bad with email though (and that's an understatement), but he told me to holler at him on the OB and he'd eventually answer when he could, I guess.

As for your second post, I do have pics. They're not fixed yet, some being very dark and/or blurry. They're also all stuck in the middle of pics from my trip (as my friend was taking them out of the passenger window and windshield), my parents' farm (my friend calls it the "free petting zoo"), then stuff with Adam (I'm the one in the blue "Dorks are hot!" shirt), and then stuff taken on the trip home. If you care to look, they're all here: http://photobucket.com/albums/b38/lnstudios

Wish I could have got such good pics "with" him. You folk seem all manner of shiny. The shirt he has slung over his shoulder while he is signing is the Jayneisms shirt I gave him.

It's so great to be able to relive this experience with others here on the boards.

I was surprised as anyone really when he told me to come around the table for a picture (and thought it was cute when he got on his knees). I figured he might go ahead and pose with me, but yeah. I was even more surprised when he asked me to kiss him. Hugs I sort of expected, but I'm happy I didn't faint when he wanted a kiss.

I figured that shirt he's got on his shoulder was the one you mentioned after I was looking at the photos. You can see the copy of Jubilation Gap I gave him sitting on the table in a few of the shots, too.

Yeah, swapping stories is fun. I was somewhat weirded out with his reaction to me and how happy he was and all. My friends had him sign something for me at D*Con (since I couldn't go) and told me he just lit up when they told him who it was for and started asking how I was and all. He did some of the same thing at DCC...asking how I was and if I'd come back to the OB. Strange to have someone you admire asking about your well being. He use to do it over the boards sometimes...if I disappeared, he'd start asking around on there about me, but his asking me irl to my friends..that's surreal.
