Don't you just love marketing schemes?

If I had no self respect, I'd get in on some of that business stuff. But alas, my desire to be happy trumps my desire for a huge house with a sweet ride and cash out the wazoo. For now, anyway.

CallmeSerenity: I've always found when they stop and stare at my mouth it's cos they are possibly thinking about doing naughty things to it. Or I have food stuck in my teeth. Or dude spaces out a lot due to an overwhelming pot habit (how else would you get through a Target work week? hehe)

Yay! Bondage! Yay! Corsets! Yay! Bag of Tricks! Yay! Firefly perverts!

BTW: I can't remember who mentioned the Warrior Scientist, but you forgot Willow Rosenberg, scientist/witch on Buffy and Fred Burkle scientist/demon fighter on Angel. Although I do love that Daniel Jackson. There should be more scientist warriors. I say this as a scientist, and a weekend warrior (okay, or not).

JadeHand: That whole 'scene' thing freaks me out. My best friend is heavily into 'the scene' but I am totally turned off by it. Then again she's a Domina who I would not want to be on the other end of. She's fierce, which is great if you are into that sort of thing. I'm less about the scary and more about the fun, that is why they call is 'play' right? For the record, I'm more of the 'collar me' rather than the collarer (is that even a word?).
Did you used to go to Gen-con in Milwaukee?? That's the only reason anyone's ever been here (for a sci-fi/gamer reason). The Safe House is an awesome time, whenever people come into town, that's the first place real Milwaukeans take them. It's a novelty, but it's so much fun. BTW: I'm from the Milwaukee area I only live this close to hell cos of my job. Trust me, I much prefer to be closer to civilization. (BTW: nice catch on the Buffy and Crow)

Citizen: monkey ninja's attacked my thread and I missed it? ::snaps finger:: DAMN!

A word about cuffs: There is a company called Sportsheets, that makes these restraints called sportcuffs. All the fun of handcuffs without the wrist redness, chafing and circulation loss. Plus they fit on ankles or wrists. They also make tethers and underbed restraint systems in case you don't have an appropriate headboard on your bed. Not that I know or anything, just more of a public service announcement...

Welcome Back to Kelly, Cybersnark, & Mal4Prez

e-Harmony run by Born-Agains? Wouldn't surprise me one bit. If you are born-again do you have 2 belly buttons?

Match.com rigging the system? Figures, but now I'm sort of insulted that they never tried to rig a date with me. bastards.

Mal4Prez: Ahh the bondage, us pervs can only stand by so long before it starts to seep out. So is mead as good as it sounds? I like the idea of honey-wine.

Also: What woman doesn't look good in a corset? Skinny, fat, in-between, all us ladies look good in corsets, outside of the passing out if too tight I see no reason why we shouldn't still be wearing them! (at least for more than dress-up, fun or pleasure) I suggest every woman invest in one, high quality, hand-made corset. none of these cheapies from Victoria's Secret, the real deal with metal bones and laces that mean something.

LMD: welcome to the blogosphere! Register and utilize BlogExplosion cos it'll get you readership faster than pimping your blog on Signatures (hehe).

Orpheus, you crack me up!

Also there is a Buffy dating service called Sunnydate, but there are like 5 people on it cos no one's ever heard of it, and I think it's run out of the UK (cos everyone on it seems to be from there).

So what's the deal? Seems like lotsa Sci-fi peeps are into the medevil (totally spelled wrong) and the kinky. Are we just this much more interesting than the rest of the population? Or is it just us Firefly people?

Whoringly Yours,
BEG

Back on topic: There's no doubt in my mind the big dating services mess around with the matches and try to keep us hooked. I'm surprised people are actually shocked by it.

I think sci-fi and fantasy just go hand in hand. Fantasy is kinda like ancient sci-fi anyway. A lot of my friends are sci-fi geeks, and they frequent Renaissance fairs pretty regularly.

I don't know what it is.

If I'm reading this thread correctly, what the FFF ladies are looking for is a man who will hold them, kiss them, tell her she is his goddess, buy her pretty things occasionally and then, as soon as the sun goes down, chain her to the bed and spank her senseless?

And you wonder why we are confused...

Yea, Like I said, It didn't really fit me either. It is about the play, and the trust in the one. I can certainly play 'switch'. I have the tools for both roles .
Yes I went to Gen-Con several times. Back when I was into the card games. I loved the remodel my last year up there, with the booth from the adjacent resturant that spins around.
I've loved The Crow for years, near had it memorized. "My kitten walks on velvet feet..." loved that.

No, SimonWho, Not senseless. As was mentioned several times, it's play. Just my guess, but I think most of these ladies would rather have a nice guy who "plays" dirty, than a complete bastard, who pretends he's nice on occassion.

I hate to be the one to say it, but that could very definitely be true. Then again I do that whole stop and stare thing when I'm just awestruck (which happens sometimes) and am not necessarily thinking about the naughty things I could do.

Nah...and I don't think it's exactly the way it's being made to sound. They sent me books with my subscription that explained the philosophy. I can understand how it would seem slanted in such a way, though.

Yeah lots of sci-fi fans like the medieval stuff. Imagination, maybe? My favorite duology is sci-fi/fantasy...I love it when both get thrown in the mix (and it's well done).

BlackLily: Are you talking Roswell the TV show? Fuck I loved that show!!! I don't think there's a database like they have for Buffy or lines and stuff, but there totally should be. I think the CrashDown (crashdown.com I think) might have something if they are still around.

Um Isn't confusion part of the fun? I also don't trust anyone who claims to be always happy, the only way that is possible is with HUGE amounts of drugs. Cos no one can be happy all the time (just like it can't rain all the time).

Yeah, but neither Willow nor Fred were much with the fighting (Willow came close, but she mostly relied on magic and left the punching & kicking to Buffy). The usual manifestation is to have the relatively weak scientist (Will, Fred, Kaylee) paired with the not-too-bright fighter (Buffy, Angel, Mal).

In fact, Daniel started out that way (with Jack as his foil), but started becoming more badass around S3 or S4 (similarly, we realize that Jack is a fair bit smarter than he pretends to be). Jonas Quin had the same evolution, just faster 'cause he was only around for one season. Carter was always there (quantum physicist, fought in the gulf war). Don't know much about Mitchell (we've only just started S9 in Canada), but he seems to have a good blend (a fighter, but explicitly wants to learn from Daniel, knows how to study, etc).

I'm thinking more of warriors who are informed by their grasp of science, or scientists who are trained and skilled in weapons and combat strategies.

Yeah, I forgot Donatello. He qualifies. There's also Logan, from Dark Angel, though he spends much of the series in a wheelchair. River would probably fit, what with her genius-level IQ and Reaver-killing skills.

Most of my examples actually come from Transformers: Starscream (air commander/planetary physicist), Skyfire (combat flyer/astrophysicist), Wheeljack (quantum physicist/inventor/stunt-driver/infantry), Crosswise (technician/infantry/ninja), Tarantulas (quantum physicist/assassin/undercover operative), Rhinox (technician/spiritual guru/holder of the Kickass Chaingun of Doom), Botannica (biochemist/ship captain), etc. I guess it comes with the territory for cybernetic life-forms.

Heh, I'm with you on the need for a website. And a DVD release.

It's been a while; most of the quotes I can recall are variations on Sh'lainn's "you've got thirty seconds to live" warnings or Nick's sarcastic "thank you General Rinnaker" tagline. I guess I'll have to re-watch and compile a list.

The SCA is really cool, where I am. I don't know where you are so I can't say for certain that it's cool where you are, but it stands to reason that it is / will be. The SCA is like a elephant to a blindman or snow to a eskimo, multiple veiw points and perspectives. With some many people participating it has to be that way. The way I understand it, The SCA is about recreating European history from the late roman empire to about 1600 not the way it was, but the way we would have rather had it. No plagues. Strong women are loved and revered not burned at the stake. Wars are bloodlesss, glorious and over in time for dinner, with a nice break for lunch in the middle. Nobles are really that noble and serve their people, not enslave them ( Like Orlando Bloom's character in Kindom of Heaven). Tolerance and diversity are championed.

That is the ideal, what I have found is this: if you were ostracised in high school for reading LOTR and playing D&D, (Once upon a time there was no LOTR movie, you had to read and see it in your head) if you were considered a misfit, but you knew that you were doing nothing wrong only dreaming, if you ever wanted to leave your 9 to 5 existence behind and dance around a roaring bonfire to the sound of drums, if you ever felt that you were dumbing yourself down to deal with the world around you, then there maybe a place for you in the SCA. Yes there are some incredible people here, please come and be one of them. You can bring your mead, (and your beer and your wine and you vodka and your tequila {shudder}). If you are in alcohol recovery be warned the SCA may be hazardous to your soberiety.

Promise me though, that if you you try it and the SCA doesn't measure up to your expectations, you won't hunt me down and get midevil on my ass. The knights come, for the most part, without horses. Horses are messy, exspensive, occasionally difficult and sometimes dangerous. Some events have horses, but not most.

The handle Scorpion Regent is in reference to the house of Scorpio in which I was born. I just threw the regent part on the end because it makes me sound regal. It has nothing to do with Farscape. I thought the show was cool though.

I think SimonWho's responce was mostly facetious, judging by my knowledge of the evil Dr.

Someday I will be as evil as he.

Until then I shall plot with my Monkey Ninja's.

Be still my pretties, be still.

What is SCA, did I miss something?

BlackLily: Are you talking Roswell the TV show? Fuck I loved that show!!! I don't think there's a database like they have for Buffy or lines and stuff, but there totally should be. I think the CrashDown (crashdown.com I think) might have something if they are still around.

Loved Roswell, well not so much the girl they added as the forth one, but I think that was kinda the point. "Michael" is now a lab tech on CSI:Miami. I think Roswell Conspiracies was an animated thing, never saw much of it.

Um Isn't confusion part of the fun? I also don't trust anyone who claims to be always happy, the only way that is possible is with HUGE amounts of drugs. Cos no one can be happy all the time (just like it can't rain all the time).

More Crow Yay! Did you ever get the CD with J O'Barrs band. It came with the Hardcover version. Trust Obey - Fear and Bullets. It's not great but has lots of Crow quotes mixed in. "lead poisoning" heh.

It's astonishing how well people know me.

Is it too obvious to insist those who defame me are fitted with ball gags?

Ball-gags? can't we just use Duct-Tape? It's so much cheaper.

Going back to new thread now (Move people!)

Could You?
If you could I'd be on a delirius high for days to come..
Just kidding. Though I'd be sincerely grateful if you could find the time to compile a list.
Peace to you...

The truth will set you free..
But first it'll piss you off.

B.E.G., you are hi-larious.

I too know someone who married somebody he met on eHarmony. He's relatively screwed up (but not in a way that harms others) and yet managed to find someone. However...I don't think he's that happy. But he wasn't that happy by himself, so odds of him being happy in a relationship aren't good.

He started off his first year of marriage by talking about all of his favorite activities that he was going to give up to "concentrate on his relationship." Sounds dreadful.

Anyhoo, eHarmony has found a match for me and he wants to talk...only thing is, he's 10 years older...i.e., 50. The idea of dating a 50-year-old man freaks me out. Am I just being narrow-minded? My dad is only 62! His profile says he's in great shape and often mistaken for being much younger. (And most people guess I'm about 30). To communicate with him it's gonna cost me at least $50. A dollar for every year...how ironic.

So, random strangers, what should I do?

Just a whole bevy of bad browncoat humor. Oi, I am so strange.

$50? Fuck that! I find it funny that eHarmony wants to help you find the love of your life, for a fee. Shouldn't this just be a free service? I mean if their goal is just to make people happy, then they shouldn't charge.

I dunno, what else do you know about him? Does he seem to be like you in other ways? I hate that they charge!

Resond on the 4th floor, it should be opening any minute now!!
