Serenity VHS is now available from Amazon.com . Didn't used to be. UMD still not available from Amazon.com .

Only other place where you could preorder the VHS version was www.walmart.com They have the UMD ( www.circuitcity.com has the UMD available too)

I had Serenity VHS gift-wrapped and mailed to a friend who still has only a VCR. Friend is waiting for VCR to die and then will get a DVD/VCR combo unit.

Also, another good place to send Serenity VHS would be a library. Sort of a captive audience there if they are checking out VCR tapes at the library.

They won't be sad if they are given Serenity VHS version or if they can check one out at the library.

But, they will be sad when they find out Firefly is only available in DVD. Although if they have cable and the SCIFI channel, they can watch Firefly on TV.

Very old elven magic. Needs some Serenity VHS to stay magical. Or needs to merge with a DVD to stay in this world. Or maybe move to another room with another TV. Some VCRs just won't die.

It also allows you to "tivo" without actually having Tivo. And if you find you really like something you've recorded, you can keep the tape until the DVDs come out (or in case they never do --y'know, 'cause not all cancelled shows get DVD box sets).

And then you can pass the VHS tapes to others who also missed the show. I have an 8-hour Firefly sample tape ready to go (yeah, it's only 7 eps, but it's a good introduction for the uninitiated).
