Okay, I'm sure this has probably been posted, but I didn't see it as i quickly glanced over newer threads for posting. So, I apologize if this is old information, but I just saw this at whedon.info:

Joss Whedon rules out "Firefly" revival
From Digitalspy.co.uk - By Neil Wilkes - 2006-01-6

Firefly creator Joss Whedon has quashed rumours of the show’s revival but has assured fans that the universe has far from ended.

The cult sci-fi series was axed by FOX after just twelve episodes in 2002 but hopes of a return were recently ignited by the success of the show’s DVD release and a spinoff movie, Serenity.

"We’ll never make Firefly again, because that was a thing that existed and is now gone," Whedon told USA Today. "And Serenity isn’t Firefly, and whatever comes next won’t be, either. But I would love to tell more stories of this universe and to hang out with these people on and off for the rest of my career."

Now he hopes the DVD release of Serenity will make the case for further films in the franchise. "The best-case scenario is that the DVD is such a spectacular, monster hit that we get to make another movie. Then we get to make another movie. After three movies, we’re all very tired," he added, joking: "After Serenity: Revolutions, we feel like we’ve played it out. And then we make another series."

Posted somewhere I think, I believe it was technically from another website originally.

Those of us who have been realistic have known a series revival wasn't very likely for a long time, but more movies is very shiny :D

I think more movies would be great too, but I'm doubtful.

Not to be negative, but with Universal closing their board just over two weeks after the DVD release... Well... That tells me that Universal may not be in it for the long haul.

I don't know, if they were interested in continuing Serenity as a sequel, tv movie, straight to DVD, itunes exclusive, or whatever, I would think that they would keep the board open until then.

I'm hoping there is some kind of master plan at work, that we the common people are being kept in the dark about!

Oh I'm hopeful but not in a "Yeah we're getting another movie, trust me!" way :P

Joss has said he wants to tell more stories in the 'verse - I have faith he'll make good on that, even if it takes 5/10 years (hopefully sooner!).

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

First off, I believe the source for that quote was originally USA Today, but if you read it carefully Joss is just saying that whatever incarnation it comes back as in the future will not be "Firefly" either by title or style, just as the BDM had a different name and a different focus. But he clearly states he wants to do more stories in the 'verse, and I ain't giving up hope yet, and if you have then perhaps you aren't really a Browncoat. We HOLD, and we do the impossible, which makes us mighty!

The only thing that was taken down was the forums and the challenges for points, which are more or less superfluous now that the dvd is out and there are many other sites devoted to the 'verse we can use, the best of which is this one (thanks Haken!). But serenitymovie.com is still up and running, now focusing on the dvd release, but still featuring both the html and flash versions of the site that were put up early last year. This is the first time I have become obsessive about a show/movie and joined a fansite, but I've read that history has shown that most official sites have been closed shortly after dvd releases, with the examples being ones created for Shawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead, and Chronicles of Riddick.

I think a mini-series would be possible. Something like Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.

Or something that I think would be cool: a show all about River kicking ass across the verse. Not likely but let me dream.

Mal would kick Han Solo's ass.

Those of us who have been realistic knew that Serenity would never exist. If we want to start being realistic now why don't we face the fact that either the BDM is a figment of our collective imaginations or being realistic is a bad way to predict the future?

Don't get me wrong, I think being realistic is often a very good thing, for example it will stop you from going broke if you use it in planning how much money to spend. However with respect to Firefly and now Serenity it has continually failed. Don't count on anything, but don't rule anything out either.

My "realistic" attitude is borne from the things Joss has been saying for months. He's always been hazy when a Firefly series is mentioned and always wanted to talk about movies. I feel it was realistic to think that the series wouldn't therefore be coming back but to still support the franchise in the hopes that we'd get more movies.

I'm not trying to douse the flames of victory here, we did good, but I'm just saying this news doesn't surprise me - I feel I've known this for a while.

There's plenty of browncoats out thee, and I'm willing to bet that some of them are in a position to revive the story in some way Joss the boss started the story and if ihe don't finish it, someone else will. In one way or another Serenity will fly again!

You know, I think that a better way would be to

1. pretend Serenity never happened (Yeah, I wish)

2. Whedon goes out and raises money from the IPO market

3. Produce the series and sell it on Itunes

4. Profit! (see, it is possible)

I personally don't think anybody official has ruled out anything. I've never gotten that from anything that Joss has said. He's a pretty sarcastic and quirky guy, but even in this quote, he still exhibits interest in doing a television series. Actually, I seem to remember a recent interview that asked him point-blank if he was done with TV now that he was in feature films, and his response was that his heart is always in TV. That sounds more enthusiastic for a series to me.

I do think Joss wore himself out pretty badly trying to get Firefly back on the air and then stumping for Serenity. I think in Joss' mind, the *most likely* positive scenario if we're going to succeed is to do more movies and continue to grow the fanbase before we move back to TV. He still loves this crew, and he still loves this 'verse and wants to tell more about it.

Every time I've read this article, all I've ever read in these words about no more Firefly is that he's saying that no matter where he takes this 'verse, it's never going to be *exactly* the same. We can have the same cast, the same sets, the same 'verse, and even the same stories, but something will always be a little different - and that's not to say that it will necessarily be worse and any less the show that we love - it's just not "Firefly" :)

Amiton.
