Pet on Serenity?

What happened? He see your face?

I have become a salesman and recruited some numbers. I have discussed the comeback, the nuances of the crew, and why marketing and TV execs suck.

Now time for the hypothetical and/or possibly ridiculous…
If there was one pet on Serenity what would it be? Name? Comments?
(A dog that rescues a crew member when no hope or help is left)

Or…

If each of the crew had a pet, what would it be?

Do with it what u will. (Inevitably it will evolve or not)

My vote. A cat…. Persephone

Maybe slinks around, hides, and sits in Kaylee’s lap (lucky kitty)

It would be a ferret, and it wouldn't have a name, it would just be, "the ferret."

Think about it, a ferret is a thief that resembles the great warrior that is a mongoose. More importantly it would love the fact that Serenity is a smuggling ship, if Jayne ever wanted to kill it he wouldn't be able to find it.

I had more things to say that made more sense, but I have forgotten them. So I'll change the topic ... do you remember the rat in The Abyss?

I'd have to go with a cat. Dogs are too cheerful, fish lack personality, and ferrets aren't quite vicious enough.

Cats are cute, annoying, selfish, and will give you a piece of their mind (aka a claw) if they get pissed at you. A cat would be perfect for Serenity.

How's my firefly speak? Good? Bad? Fee-oo?

i was originally thinking cat, but whoever said ferret has the right idea.

i could totally see it stowing away and pissing off mal for an episode before kaylee decides to keep it for real. (perhaps as a subplot in a more dramatic episode, for a little comic relief?)

Excellent choice... should of thought of that... My Dad had one years ago and it would steal little things and run off with them. U would be very lucky to find anything it absconded.

A boar.

Jayne's Mother (in her infinate wisdom) sends Jayne a live boar so he can have some fresh bacon. He neglects to read the letter first, so as soon as he opens the crate the boar runs out and causes havok on Serenity. The crew end up chasing it on and off for most of an episode, until the end when Jayne finally has it cornered and ... can't kill it, cuz he's taken such a liking to the tough little critter. He ends up keeping it in his room. Cue many jokes from the others about how the smell has ... well, improved actually.

Oh, and he names it after his Mum :)

I'm not saying this to push the agenda of ferrets or anything, this has nothing to do with if one would be on the ship.

Cute and cuddly yes, until pissed off. I remember having to pry a ferret's jaws open to separate it from an iguana (poor thing had no idea what was going on it just wanted to get away.) And as for how a pair of them can tag team a cat ... ouch.

Cute and fuzzy wuzzy monsters ferrets are. They are vicious enough.

For anyone who has just been dissuaded from buying a ferret, don’t be. They can be vicious if they feel the need, but if you deal with them one on one they are no problem. Also while those I have met naturally attack cats and other such things they seem to have no problem with dogs.

None of what I just said makes a ferret any better of a choice for the ship, I don't think it would come into play anyway. Considering the lack of other animals a ferret on Serenity would not need to be (Jayne is the only one I can see it getting in serious trouble with and it would hide from Jayne, they are not dumb animals.)

I don't see why a pet on Serenity would need to be vicious.
