I apologise if this has been discovered and discussed before, but I just found this on the entertaining and well-maintained visual Firefly guide at www.twoevilmonks.org :

Nathan Fillion is a descendant of the Confederate General Jubal Early??

Is this something that's widely known that I just missed?
