First thing i thought when i saw the title:

"Oscar?"

Seriously. If it doesn't at least get honourable mention for technical achievement (Zoic, making a $40 mil movie look like $100 mil, as always), i will be P.O'd. Maybe original screenplay, director, effects...maybe even a best actor nod for Our Mr.Reynolds, Mr.Fillion Himself....just because it wasn't a huge hit or newsmaker doesn't mean it shouldn't be considered.

That being said, good to know. I voted for it, of course.

I'm babbling like a moonbrain.

Forty year old virgin... Starwars III.... just a few of the reasons I'm skeptical we'll ever see Mal Reynolds fly again, there is too much CRAP that makes money and gets awards.

My question: why wasn't Summer Glau in the category for 'badass' or 'newcomer'? Definitely overlooked.

I had already voted, but I went and looked at the other categories.

Hayden Christianson for best actor!!!!! Normally I don't hate this young fellow, he CAN be pretty good, but the lines he was given to say surely affected his performance and IMHO he was just awful! Mercy, some of those people in those categories...hmmmm, I just don't get it.

No Nathan! No Summer! They both did such an awesome job in our BDM,( as did all our BDH's!) it's a shame they won't be recognized.

And I'll bet that Star Wars: ROTS will sweep the sfx awards, even though we've all been there and done that and they had such a HUGE budget, and the folks that did Serenity made it look better than that with a WHOLE lot less money.

I sound kinda bitter this a.m., better go have some more coffee and cheer up. Sorry about that folks......

Call me crazy, but Hayden Christiansen's performance in Ep III was probably the worst I have ever seen in a major motion picture. The people who run Moviefone are clearly confused as to what part is their head and what part is their ass.

By the way, best scene-stealer? JAYNE COBB, clearly.

Episode III was, in my estimation, the single funniest movie I saw last year. I had a friend who literally couldn't sit through it. Between Mannequin Skywalker and Queen "Lost the Will to Live," I never stopped laughing the whole time. Heck, during the opening crawl my fiance had to physically restrain me. The first sentence was simply "War!"

I wanted to scream back "Good God, ya'll!" She wouldn't let me. Killjoy.

Too bad it got such an obscene marketing campaign. At least five good movies could have been made with its budget. Cripes, we could have gotten a couple seasons of Firefly for its budget!

Excuse me.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

ChrisPV, I think that's one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. I was never so disappointed in a film in my life. But that comment, you know, it made my day.

I have to agree. That was too funny! I heckled all 3 of the recent Star Wars movies. When Jango Fett dies, and little Boba goes over and picks up his head, I just couldn't help myself. I muttered, "They killed Jango! You bastards!"

When Aniken's mom was killed, a friend of mine mumbled, "Okay, so now he's little orphan Ani." You get the picture. Those movies were soooo bad. I had to heckle just to get through it.

When Anakin got his legs chopped off in EpIII I was desperate for him to say (to Obi-Wan) "Come here, and I'll bite your legs off - 'tis only a flesh wound". _That_ would've been a classic movie moment....

You guys are killing me today. Little Orphan Ani, what a line! To think that people are gobbling that crap up. I'm a Star Wars fan, even, but my firend, who is a DEVOUT fan (his living room is lined with Star Wars plates from the Franklin Mint collection if that tells you anything) was almost embarrassed. He always half-heartedly defends them, more out of obligation than true love. Think about all the FF episodes that they could ahve made with all that wasted money.

Aw shucks, thanks guys.

Yeah, I can go on and on about how badly the prequels were done. ROTS (it's so convenient when Lucas gives us an acronym that so aptly sums up his film) was easily the worst of the bunch. I was most fond of the "evil-eye" contacts that they gave Christensen. Apparently he can't manage to evoke menace with his whole body. Funny that James Earl Jones could do so remarkably well with just a voice...

Between that and the pathetic excuse for an Emperor Palpatine that we got (which I affectionately refer to as Darth Mumm-Ra), and the extradordinarily wooden acting of Natalie Portman, it's a wonder the film didn't just explode in a shower of crap.

And I'll say it again. The best title for the film would have definitely been

Star Wars Episode III: Sith Happens

Well, now that that little bit of catharsis is over, I'm back to writing my (hopefully) shiny Wash fanfic, surrounded by novel, comics, RPG, and DVDs for inspiration/research material. Ah, the sweet, sweet scent of GOOD sci-fi!

While "Good God ya'll" is funny, compare the opening crawls between III and IV

War! The Republic is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless Sith Lord, Count Dooku. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere.

In a stunning move, the fiendish droid leader, General Grievous, has swept into the Republic capital and kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine, leader of the Galactic Senate.

As the Separatist Droid Army attempts to flee the besieged capital with their valuable hostage, two Jedi Knights lead a desperate mission to rescue the captive Chancellor....

It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.

During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.

Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy....

If you see a dimes worth or distance (other than 20 years of lore stored up) let me know.

Hey, any excuse to bash on that giant piece of Sith is welcome to me.

As for my fic(s). The one I actually just finished (although I'm going to look at it in the morning for editing purposes to make sure it's coherent) is the second in a series I'm working on where I seperate each of our BDHs from the whole and then give them a chance to strut their stuff. My thinking is that if I can write these folks independent of each other, than writing them en masse should be a snap. Anyhoo, the first one is called "The d'Arbanvilles' Ball-River's Tale," and the forthcoming one is called "Final Exam-Wash's Tale." The whole series will be in the BSR, eventually. I'm hoping to have the series done by March, which might be a feat because, if I stay true to form, I'm looking at about 150 pages or so.

Ah, the crawls. It is so hard for me to believe that the same man is responsible for both of those films. The crawls betray the overall cheesiness of the premise, stolen as it was from Flash Gordon. But the films behind these scrolls are so radically different it hurts. I personally think that Mal and Han Solo would get along real well. Whereas, if we're lucky, River would kill Anakin with her brain. Personally, I prefer to think that Lucas was attacked by some bizarre brain-eating alien slug sometime around, well, 1997. How else do you explain Greedo shoots first?

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

Two words: Lawrence Kasdan. The man who took Lucas' original scripts, said "Uh, okay. This is. . . Just let me make a few little changes. . ." and gave us the original trilogy. Three of the greatest works of cinematic art ever made.

Then "Mr. Household Name" took all the glory and started buying into his own hype.

And, since I didn't bring up the RotS tangent, I have no problem plugging this: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=8&t=16704

What kind of movie description is Moviephone putting on there? They didn't say a single positive word about it! People are going to think some sort of glitch put it in the "Gems" section and skim right over it, although it's impossible to skim over something at the BOTTOM OF A LIST! "Even less people saw the flick than the show"?!?! That's just adding insult to injury, not accurate at all.

Ah well, I did vote for it, little good it does. Thanks a lot Moviephone.

No, I am not insane, I am crazy. Thank you for asking.

Wash's story is on this very site, in the Blue Sun Room, along with the River story I did earlier. Preliminary feedback seems pretty good. Sorry for only posting the acronym, I'm an old theforce.net message boarder, and they throw them around like nobody's business. But, rest assured, that the snarkiness is very much still intact. Plus, you get to see the origin of Wash's dinosaurs, and the horrible conflict they were party too!

Cybersnark: Holy cats! That is some thorough rewriting you've done there! I'll have to take a look at that later and give you an opinion. However, I've promised a new friend that I'd read her fanfic, so I'm afraid you'll have to take a number.

As for the poll, yeah it does stink royally that the BDM got such a bum rap. ROTS was pretty much a 300 pound gorilla at the cinemas last year. It couldn't be anything, given the marketing. Although I had to love how all of the ads focused on characters from the originals (Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Chewie) instead of the new characters. It was like Lucas just admitted that we all hated Stalkme Amidala (not my joke, I must confess) and Little Orphan Ani (still love that).

"Come to this movie! See, it has Chewie! And Yoda fights more! You liked that last time, right? Oh and Vader! Lots and lots of Vader. Well, maybe a lousy inept three minute coda, but still! VADER!"

And then, to cap it off, all of the "good" reviews basically boiled down to "It's not as bad as the last two!" Which gives rise to my personal theory for this phenomenon. If a man kicks you repeatedly in the groin for six straight hours, when he stops and hits you in the face, you thank him.

Sigh. It's a shame that good low-budget films have such a hard time breaking anymore. Serenity had so much more heart and talent than just about anything I saw last year, and I see my fair share of films. I've voted, and hopefully that'll help. At the very least, I do take solace in the fact that that the press at least realizes what a gem this series/film was. It might not get us back on the air (only our fanatical holding the line can do that), but at least it's something.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

Okay, that was the best thing I've heard all day. And I've spent most of the day laughing at my roommate, so that's saying something.

Nicely done.

I watched the Three Amigos Episodes out of loyalty, of course, but I didn't find myself as wonderstruck as with IV, V, and VI. At first, I thought it was because I'd grown up since then.

Then, I realized they were just crap. Expensive, trinketed-up crap, but crap nonetheless. And all my Star Wars fanatical friends were severely ticked off at the abrupt end to the Jedi knights.

Talk about "curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal"! Good grief!
