I'm sure i'm not the first person to post this thought, but i was wondering if any one made the connection between "Firefly" being cancelled and the quick to follow invasion of Iraq. I don't know if Fox and Fox news are exactly the same network. But it seems to me if you were trying to pitch an invasion over a news network, you might want to clear your pallete of any shows that come off as anti-establishment. Crazy? Viva FF.

I aim to misbehave.

Owned by the same company, entirely different entities. The short answer is no. The long answer is no.

Oh. So what was the real story then? Why DID the show get cancelled? I keep hearing/reading that it was mishandled. Was it merely becuase of ratings then?

Bad sending time, friday nights. They didn't air them in the right order. It was aired at the same time as some football tournaments in the states.
I imagine it got pretty bad amount of viewers...

Compare your average trashy Fox show with the ultra-conservatism on Fox News.

Completely different styles. The only thing they share is the name; anything more than that is way too much a conspiracy theory. KF

I strongly believe it was personal. The mishandling of the show could easily be deliberate, as could the push to cancel it. Somebody somewhere just had it in for someone involved with the show.

Actually, I think the answer might be yes. The network Fox and Fox News are under the umbrella of the Fox Corporation (owned by the same people as you have explained). But those people that run the corporation are the ones that make the ultimate decisions on what goes on each of their subsidiaries. Sure the network Fox and Fox News are technically different entities, but the same people run both. Look up how the Fox Corporation (the entire corporation) covered up the use of Bovine Growth Horomone. Not only did they fire the Fox News Anchors that were about to uncover the story, but they poured false information to every Fox network channel. If you Google "Fox + BGH" you'll see some very scary results.

The only show whose cancellation I blame on the Iraq War is Veritas: The Quest, and it was on ABC.

Psolaris, you're starting to sound like a conspiracy nut now.
No company would use Bovine Growth Hormone on cattle for advancing milk-production or weight-gaining purposes, that would pose a danger to the public. All manner of problems might develope, obesity, pre-mature menstruation in young girls, accelerated cancer rates, man-boobs- it just would not be tollerated!
Next you'll tell us Iraqui WMD's don't exist and AIDS is man-made!
Sheesh!

Yep. FYI, Firefly attracts many, many God-fearing Bush fans. To say FF is anti-establishment is like saying all major governments are like The Alliance, and that's plain silly. Governments are formulated with the common good in mind, and with the rare exceptions of ancient Rome, and Nazi Germany, all are benevolent, high-minded and just.
And it wasn't an 'invasion', we were defending ourselves.

If you're calling me a Bush fan and a republican - well, that's sort of like when Simon said Mal should probably be working for the Alliance. Getting my wave? I was just trying to understand better why Firefly was "mishandled" as every one says.

I am a consipiracy nut. Just not necessarily a Bush fan. Viva FF.

WOW - it stuns me the leaps in logic that I hear on the daily news
(more correctly refered to as the "daily views" since they are so slanted)
but this is another great one....

So Fox cancelled the show to push the Bush agenda ???

I don't think so :)

I actually heard someone this morning get on the radio and say the energy cost are so high because so many drive SUV's !!!!

Amazes me that someone like that gets their vote to count the same as mine....

Actually, Fox expected a Buffy-like instant hit, and cancelled after not seeing a return on their investment IMMEDIATLY. They couldn't care less about 'pushing' the Bush agenda or not, as long as there's money to be made.
Short-sighted dumasses. That's all.

It may sound like conspiracy but this is right on the money. FOX is like most of america and especially corps, ultraconservatives and most of them are christians and some of them are far right wing christians.

Now hold up, I have nothing against religion, but you can see how Firefly might bode up to this kind of crowd. Also, its not conspiracy to think that news companys skew thier reports based on what "THEY" think we should know.

A little conspiracy theory is healthy

Peace~

Dear Chrisisall,

I now see your ironical, comical shades for what they are. I apologize. I'm a bit on the gullible, gauche, and clueless side sometimes. Maybe that's why I joined the army.

A Browncoat for real, eh? Fought for Independence? Or are ya still in?
Did you learn any cool military martial arts? I'm a Wing Chun man, myself.

Y'know, may be something to that extra reason for getting wrongly presented and susequently cancelled after all...never rule out any conspiracy theory till ya have all the facts.

Do I believe that Operation Iraqi Freedom had anything to do with FF cancelation? No... one had nothing to do with the other, Fox T.V. Net work and the FOX Cable News are two different broadcasts. Fox was competing with the major networks like ABC,CBS and NBC needed a hit. The executives did not give FF a chance. There was no excuse not to find a time slot that allowed the viewers to see FF around the competition like Survivor, CSI, American Idol, and the Apprentice. Now given the news of the day, why is desperate housewives a hit.. didn't we see a school teacher being sentenced for doing the same acts that one of the actresses is portraying? and best of all its a Disney parent company. go figure. Yes I agree there was mismanagement, misshandling miss everything. Now the question, how has the Scifi channel come to airing the entire series on their one day airing spots. Checking back that was done in September and again last month. Since it was one season, perhaps a financial entity can drum up enough backing to allow the purchase of the rights to FF and subsequent sell off to an interested T.V. network or motion picture films company. This will allow the continuation of a second season or the making of future feature films. I prefer the Televison series due to the high cost of movie enterences, the increasing cable availability would make for a better market. Finally most important is that Joss Whedon given control over his production, its his vision and talent that brought FF to the screen in 2002, and again in 2005 in the theaters how ever this is done, he deserves that and much more.
