I know the part about Nathan, Summer, and Gina walking out of the CW studios has already been posted, but still, I hadn't heard the part about them considering bringing it back.. A small nugget, but still...

From Kristin at E! online:

http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/Trans/Archive2006/060213b.html

From junglejen9: Firefly. You gotta spill it if you have any additional info, please!

Kristin: I've heard the CW is considering bringing it back as a series, miniseries or movie for next season. Hurrah! For you who missed my message board posting, on Tuesday, Nate Fillion, Summer Glau and Gina Torres were seen coming out of one of the exec buildings at Paramount, where they are putting together the new CW unit.

"That's it, you're out. And he's out. I don't even know if I'm in. No Gang!"

Well, worst case scenario is that it at least keeps the idea floating around out there. Maybe if everyone just assumes that our little series that could is coming back...

From Joss himself (posted on Whedonesque):

"Serenity comics: Brett and I have been very very busy and it's rude of you to bring it up. But it's gonna be tight!
Serenity sequel! My phone is silent and withdrawn."

You can see it for yourself here:::

http://whedonesque.com/comments/9528#more

And also, there's this:

http://www.iesb.net/upcomingfilm/021406.php

I quote:

"Serenity rumors, there may be a sequel maybe not, what's going on…

JW: Still waiting to see how the dvd does, I'm not staying awake at night and holding my breath, I am happy with the movie, happy with the way it's been received, if somebody calls me and says let's make another one I will but I have other things to do in the mean time like be here. "

"Serenity movie, chance of it going on the Scifi channel or do you want a theatrical release?

JW: I want whatever's right for the story, if it was made for tv I don't have a problem with that, I love tv. I love tv movies when they're well made, I love tv series. I love that universe. If it's movies, whatever it is if somebody says you can do something on radio with these actors, you could do an awesome radio show, quite frankly because it's cheaper, but the fact of the matter is nobody is calling right now. You know the movie just opened, the dvd just came out, that's still happening. It hasn't even come out in Europe yet. So we are just waiting to see where the chips fall and then we'll see if somebody's interested in some permutation of this world, of these actors down the line, I am never not going to be interested. I love these people and I love the people that they play. But, I am not focusing on it right now, I am waiting to see. "

Not to be too much of a fanboy, but the second quote is too "old/new" to remain relevant(by old/new I mean Joss wouldn't/can't talk about a CW project BEFORE the CW annouced a new project).

As for his latest comments on Whedonesque...now Cryptic Joss starts to make sense (i.e. UNIVERSAL has not called about a theatrical sequel).

The only wordsmith better than Joss is Bill Clinton.

Then again I could just be getting my hopes WAY up...but I am a Browncoat, and we do two things: Hope and the Impossible.

FIREFLYSREDEMPTION

Hey guys I don't feel as though I have earned my stripes yet, I just barely found Firefly. I will say this though, I have rallied at least five others to the cause. We have all purchased the complete series boxset and serenity. My sole focus right now is in reviving and redeeming Firefly. I feel it was a mistake to do what they did at the end of serenity by killing off part of the crew. However It is still possible to make a phenomenal series. I believe that not enough people had access to Firefly originally. I remember it coming on the SciFi Channel and many areas I lived in did not carry it. I Suggest, assuming it hasnt been done already, Taking petitions towards the revival of the series. I will swear by it above and beyond any other. I mean heck, if "Farscape" got more than one season how did Firefly fail to? (IDIOTIC TV MARKETERS)

Honestly and with all due respect, I do not know y'all are so afraid to hope. Look where this series was at the beginning of 2003 (Yeah, I got on the wagon in Oct 2005 but I've read the threads by the old-timers.)

If a couple hundred fans got FF from 11 out of order barely watched episodes to a fabulous DVD boxset to the BDM to the amazing Serenity/Firefly DVD sales of the past few months, then of course all these new fans arriving daily are going to take it on to new places.

Naysay all you want, I hope without fear!

Just my 2 cents, but ...

I feel like this is just a rumor. From what I've heard, Kristen's "rumors" are often just that. Plus, with Joss's silent phone statement just yesterday (notwithstanding the fact that he didn't specificially say anything about a Firefly continuation, just a Serenity sequel), it's mighty unlikely.

That said, I think that any rumor of this type at least keeps Firefly/Serenity on the radar. I won't get my hopes up (or at least, I'll try not to) unless there is a substantiated reason to do so, but I'm encouraged by every rumor or gossip columnist or reviewer who praises the show/discusses its possible return/begs for more. As long as there's chatter out there, I feel like Firefly will return when all the stars align.

Let's all (try to )relax now Browncoats. Rumors remain rumors until we hear it from the man, Joss, we shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves. If I am not mistaken Joss is writing scripts for 2 movies right (Goners and Wonderwoman) now along with other misc projects I'm sure. The fanbase is here and we are still growing. We've already done the impossible, I think it can happen again. Just have faith and be patient all! I'm sure we'll see Firefly in one form or another as long as the fans remain loyal and keep recruiting.

"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies" -- One of the best lines in any movie (Shawshank Redemption). I have to hope and keep hoping. Even if this is a rumor, it is a good rumor, and something we should get behind. Maybe we can turn this rumor into fact by showing how much interest it generates. I can't find a site for the CW Network, it may be too new. But, I've found other articles indicating that CW is already making programming decisions (they are cutting "Cult", a new show the WB had just signed for development, and keeping an "Aquaman" pilot that is a "Smallville" spinoff). So, they are probably looking to fill their hours with unique shows that have a fanbase. There is no better show than "Firefly" and look at the devotion of it's fans!

We need to find a way to email the CW to let them know they have our interest.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Yet Joss did not mention anything about this possibilty in his post on Whedonesque recently. You think he would have at least hinted if this rumor had any basis in fact.

Until I get something resembling official confirmation I will not hold my breath.

perhaps not wanting to cry wolf if the deal doesn't work out too well.

if it doesn't happen and he's announced that it would, it's a lot harder on us than if it turns south and all we've heard is a rumor like this one.

I actually think that it would make sense for the CW to take this on. They will undoubtedly carry over popular shows from UPN and WB, but it's a new network, and they want their own audience. they can either make a few police dramas and FBI mysteries (and compete with every single other one out there) or they can start taking less known shows like firefly that the older networks don't need, and begin carving out their own audience.
