If you watch Serenity's Fruity Oaty bar commercial frame-by-frame you'll notice -along with Reavers and shots of River locked into that chair- a brief glimpse of the air processor. I saw it a couple of times before I even realized what it was. It's only about 2 frames.

(Sorry if this was mentioned already. I couldn't find it anywhere.)

Yeah, I noticed it too. I'm thinking it's the terraforming station on Miranda. (Although, it does look a lot like a recycled shot of the one in the prologue...)

Also the Teacher and the Operative and a close up of what appears to be an older woman. Perhaps a member of parliament. I don't recognize her at any rate.

Only if it's someplace with candle light.

Yes, it has to be. Throughout the movie, she's tormented by memories of what happened there and isn't released from that until they get to Miranda and everyone sees the video record.

Which doesn't explain why she sees the Operative. He certainly doesn't seem to have been at River's facility before - the Doctor doesn't recognise him so how would she see flashes of him?

Although Dr. Mathias didn't recognize him, he was an Operative of the Parliament, so it's likely some of the MPs she read knew about him. Miranda wasn't the only secret the Alliance was hiding...

River probably reads him through the screen. I wouldn't doubt that she could do that.

It's at least conceivable that some of the images were actually present in the FOB commercial itself, not just in River's head.

What I'm suggesting is that the subliminals in the ad may contain much more information than just "go nuts and start beating people up". It might include such things as "See this guy? You need to report to him." This doesn't mean that the ad actually contains a picture of the Operative, but some data that causes River's mind (and nobody else's) to form the image internally.

Of course, it's not likely that the ad would include anything specific about Miranda. Those parts of the sequence must be triggering something buried in River's mind, as suggested in earlier posts.

I don't disagree on any particular point.
