If you were an intergalactic outlaw like Mal Reynolds, who amongst your family (or any relatives) or any friends only, would you pick
as your second in command and what cool, or humorously or creatively witty qualities would any such nominated person/s bring.

Technically, Mal isn't an intergalactic outlaw...he's an interplanetary outlaw.

And I'd bring my fiance'. She's smart as an educated whip, would keep me from doing anything too stupid, and then the obvious stuff.

Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?

Aww well. My good friend Kiefer (nickname) bacause Kiefer is definately a good name for a first mate, and because I know so few other people who would appreciate being the first mate of an outlaw transport ship.

I think the correct answer here is that my WIFE would ALLOW me to be HER second in command.... aint marriage grand?

A good friend of mine I used to work with name of Ron. Great sense of humor, real smart in a practical way and can fix, repair, refurbish(sp?) damn near anything he comes across. Can't think of a better person for the job, although if he was my first mate it would be reversing things a little bit. Back when we worked together I was more of his first mate. But I wouldn't mind being the first mate if he was the captain.

Brooke Burke, or Some other supermodel/pornstar...... J/K probably my best friend Miles. Hes not a genius but when he needs to get something done he always finds a way to do it no matter what... and if i was this intergalactic outlaw and didnt take him along he's probably kick my butt.

MSG. Joseph Kraus, cause' he's more experienced than me, anyways, and he'd beat anyone who didn't obey orders.

i'd pick my best friend, jinx, who thinks she's tough and has a caustic mouth. she talks trash with the best of them, but i always end up saving her ass. because i'm a Valkyrie and she's very small. but she's a whole lotta fun.

if i think about it, it'd be really scary if the two of us were in charge of a ship and were interplanetary outlaws... i'd probably be goin' around finding the absolute worst boys in all of the worst border planet bars...
you know, like jayne.

In my verse I'm actually the 2nd, my sweetie's the Captain.

I guess the qualities are that I'm more willing to take his orders than he is to take mine also that we operate as one unit as opposed to two seperate halves, much like Mal and Zoe on occasion.
Hell I also make the ship look damn good!!

I'd pick Nathan.

Naw, I'd pick my hubby. But Nathan could be 3rd!

MAL: We're still flying.
SIMON: That's not much.
MAL: It's enough.

You have chosen wisely, luvmyvera. I can't promise the dedication of Zoe, but I can promise the wit of Wash. I might even could steer the ship.

And gophermuncher, have you seen the Chuck Norris List floating around the web? It's a freakin' HI-larious list of the things Chuck Norris could do.

Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?

Well, over on the Tree Jadehand and I seem to be working well together, So he'd be my Zoe, and then SR would be my Jayne.

In the real world though, I'd have to go with my brother, he's a total geek and could probably find his way around a strange galaxy and fight big batttles better than I could.

I think my son would make a great second in command....for someone else. He is honest and loyal, but can be sneaky...but he is usually too lazy to be evil. He is also strong, tall, had some martial arts training when he was younger...has a good business head.

Maybe I should just sell him instead of sending him to college!!

For MY first mate, I think it would be my friend Joelle. She wouldn't be worth a shit in a fight, but she would always find me the best parts and fuel on sale.

I'd pick my g/f as my second in command for a few reasons. First, she is loyal, but not loyal enough to let things slide if she has a better idea. She usually thinks of the things that I don't and we make a great team. Interestingly enough one of my friends would make a good doctor (he's a surgical tech), however his personality is more like Dr. House from the show House, hence not good for a second in command. Good for trouble though, and keeping things...interesting.

Family members. . . only one who'd be worth the price of the air she'd breathe would be my no-longer-goth cousin. She knows a bit about SF, is reliable, has a Whedonesque sense of humour, and (most vital) enjoyed Serenity.

Friends: Hmm. There's Melissa, who's got Kaylee beat for cuteness (I kid thee not), even if I'm not sure what useful shipboard skills she'd have (don't have much need of office temps where we're flyin').

So, I guess I'm in the market for an XO.

Maybe I should just get a cat. . .

I think that I would be the first mate. I'm not much good at calling the shots on my own and prefer to have a captains opinion to bounce my ideas off of.
Then I would just have to worry about the power hungry gun hand who is twice my size.
Piece-a-cake.

Because how you get there is the worthier part.

Me, of course. :) I mean, is that a no-brainer or what?

I'm smart enough to learn to fly in no time at all; mean enough to make Jayne look like a kittycat; snarky enough to make a room full of lawyers cringe; and I know when to disobey orders!

I am sort of in the same boat. I am probably better at leadership support than actually being the leader. I am probably the best person I know to fill the aforementioned role.

That said, I would pick my co-worker Mo. Intelligent, honest and cool in a crisis.

When I took the Serenity and Firefly personality tests it told me I was a Zoe, so I suppose I'd spend mor etime looking for a captain than a first mate. I'd probably take my father-in-law. He's a great guy and sharp as a tack, but still have a bit of a mean streak.
