How can our show not be on the air yet/again? It's not like there is no fan support for the show. It would be one thing if the show sucked and it was disowned but the numbers don't lie. Look at the Amazon sale ratings. Can't Fox or some other TV Conglomerate put 2 and 2 together and bring it back

I've been watching the Amazon.com sales ranking too. Can't see how it wouldn't be making money by now. Somebody's got to be noticing. BTW there is a thread going on with mailing addresses for some of the networks -

Maybe it's because more people probably saw the finale of Firefly on TV than went to the movie its opening weekend. Sorry, i guess i shouldn't be so cynical...i mean, yeah, i don't get it either.

It really is the most baffeling thing. This is the greatest show that I have ever seen (there literly is no better show ing the verse). FOX must have screwed up just right to get Firefly canceled cause I see no way/reason on any planet to convince me otherwise.

I was under the impression that the current problems were more of a timing/legal properties issue than any sort of desire to continue the show. For one, Joss is tired and wants to stay away from TV land for a while and secondly I think the movie rights license has to run out before TV show production can repeat again.

In short, don't expect anything for 4 years or more... and that's assuming the actors would still be interested in so long.

Hopefully, when all is said and done it'll be clear that BDM sequels would be profitable enterprises. My only concern is that I've hear the Amazon sales rankings can be wildly different from sales in general. It may be something about the computer-savvy Amazon-buyer that is very different from the typical Sprawl-Mart shopper. Plus, if stores like Target, Best Buy, WalMart etc. didn't expect high demand for BDM and Firefly they wouldn't have stocked many copies, and therefore even if people wanted to buy they would preferentially buy from Amazon. Not trying to be a damper, just realistic. :-) If anyone has a reliable site for stats regarding general DVD sales nationwide, I'd love to see it.

Hey TV execs, look around. What you see is the inside of your colon because you head is firmly up your anus. Put our BDH back on the screen.

Honestly, I think we'll get at least a Serenity2. It'll take some time though. Joss is busy and the other actors need work in the mean time. Usually for movies that have sequels come out a few years later. Normally it's every 2-4 years from the release of the original for the next one to come out. Fox is just sitting on their earnings(laughing richly) from Firefly DVD sales. Serenity's DVD sales will be the reason we get another movie in my opinion. If there was a way to convince Universal, or a network (CW) for example, that there are so many of us after Serenity came out, we'll get a continuation. For now enjoy the comics (I don't know if they're out yet or not), and spread the virus!

Yeah, I'm feeling the timing issue is the main frustration atm. DVD sales seem to be dragging a good amount of recruits to the 'verse (myself included.) But Joss is working on that Wonder Woman script now, among other things, so he's probably a good bit busy right now. That could take the better part of a year before that's all said and done.

On the plus side, though... Joss with another movie under his belt could see him with a bit more leverage in the industry. Say the second wave of Firefly comics comes out at the right time, hopefully keep the word of the 'verse out there just in time for this Wonder Woman movie to come to theatres... Obviously it's the comic fans that'll see the movie, and if they see Joss's name on another comic, might be enough to convice people to pick that up. Could potentially be another draw to the fandom...

So it may be a decent wait before we see anything coming to the screen, but then again the Browncoats in general have had to have some patience in that regard in the past. Look at the Old Guard having to hold the line until the BDM came out...

Wow, that list is laughable. I mean, look at it. They rank the Jetsons higher than Buffy. Don't get me wrong, the Jetsons was a good show, but I severely doubt it's better than Buffy. Or Futurama, for that matter, which sits at 41. And then they top it off with the original Star Trek as number 1. I know it was classic and all that, but just because it came first, doesn't mean it's the best. They do have some good shows on there, but it's really not that good a list.

That's the same thing I've been thinking lately. Sure, Amazon.com's sales numbers have it selling well, but that's among computer-savvy folk - many of whom are also sci-fi geeks (like me!). It doesn't tell us how well the show or the movie are selling at the "big box" stores.

By all accounts, though, the BDM really WAS selling like hotcakes when the DVD came out. We had reports from all over that they were stocked deep and selling out fast at places like Sprawl-Mart, Target, Best Buy, etc.

Like most of you, I just can't figure out how the execs at the studios and networks HAVEN'T noticed this untapped market yet. Either our numbers are smaller than we think, or their brains are.

And it could well be that they HAVE noticed, but that there's nothing they can really do about it right now. If Fox still holds the rights to the TV show, that could make things difficult right there. Joss has apparently said that he has no desire to work with Fox again (or so I've heard). Fox may have no real desire to sell the rights, unless it's for an unreasonable amount of money, which means they'd be essentially at an impasse: Joss not wanting to work with Fox on bringing the show back for them, and Fox not wanting to let it go anywhere else, at least not without them getting a huge chunk of money for it.

Of course, that's all just idle speculation on my part...

But for better or worse the two are closely linked historically. Most science fiction authors also writing a fair bit of fantasy and vice versa.

Agreed. I quite like Xena myself in an unhook the brain sort of way. But it's not as good as Firefly. Then again nothing is.

I'm upset that sci-fi and fantasy are considered complete genres. Don't get me wrong, but the words "sci-fi" and "fantasy" mean just about nothing.

"Horror" --you know there's going to be something scary. "Romance" --you know the plot's gonna focus on people falling in love. "Action" is self-explanitory, as is "Comedy." "Western" --a horse movie.

"Science fiction" just means that it has science stuff in it, and it's not real (could be set on a starship, could involve cloning, could involve holograms, could involve time-travel, etc. . .). "Fantasy" just means "not real."

I want someone to write a non-sci-fi drama movie (like Munich, or Annapolis, or Glory Road) and put in one energy-weapon, or a hovercraft, or a random alien in the background.

And NO ONE WILL WATCH IT 'CAUSE IT'S SCI-FI!!!
