I don't think the ship ever gets destoryed and I do think that there are many possible future plots with River.

River gets pregnant and gives birth to a girl, the baby grows at an astonishing rate. Mother, daughter and Mal's crew join together to destroy Alliance headquarters and give the Alliance a crushing defeat. As to the father I am still not sure. It could be Mal, or maybe River has some unknown power. Maybe she has union with a Reaver.

Whew! *sigh of relief* And here I was gettin' all worried.

I can't imagine that Mr. Whedon would give Jayne a line like, "My kinda life don't last long, Preacher", without giving that poor boy a long, looooooong life to spite him.

...I hope.

Somethin' about that is downright unsettlin', not to mention extremely unlikely considering we all know she can fight a roomfull of reavers and win.

Wash: Yeah, but psychic? That sounds like science fiction.
Zoe: You live on a spaceship, dear.

When I went to see the BDM during the making out scene I shouted "NOOO! Don't get together! Joss will kill you in the sequel!" which prompted a cinema full of laughing people.

YAY! I'm glad I wasn't the only one that yelled that.

*Edit: River has a target one her too, as far as we know, she isn't "crazy" anymore, just severly warped and they already know she could go ninja-shit if need be so there isn't alot left to explore about the aspect of her character that was so vital to the show.

Jayne! Try not to steal too much of their shit.

I dont think Jayne will die. Ever. He's like a cockroach, a likable cockroach that is and will survive anything.
I see Mal dying only for some great sacrifice for the crew
I love Kaylee and she really is the heart of the crew so Im hoping she doesnt get killed.
Without Book, Inara's would be a no kill zone for me, and she still has lots of potential for a character.

For me that leaves Zoe and Simon. So if someone was killed off I would say it would be Simon

Hair-splittingly funny, btw, how you say we'd go to another "demetion", instead of "dimension", cuz the thought alone is, indeed, a lot closer to tragic space "dementia" than to "dimension". :) lol

Y'know, in reality, that was just my crappy spelling and lack of double checking my work .. however, now that you mention it, it is quite funny.

Glad someone finally brought this up. I was worrying that maybe it was just me that thought about it. It hit me when I was watching Buffy, Season 7, where Spike is all looney-bin in the basement of the new school. Willow's there, only she *isn't* there; no one else can see her. Spike's talking to her, but the others are only catching Spike's side of the conversation, so of course he seems like a complete nutjob.

That's when it occurred to me: What if "dementia" was linked to other dimensions? We've seen demented people before, how some of them seem to be talking to themselves or someone else whom we can't see or hear. What if they were ACTUALLY carrying on completely normal, everyday conversations with real people - only on another dimensional plane of reality? We would, of course, only get one side of the conversation, and it would probably seem disjointed and creepifying, but TO THEM, it might seem utterly normal.

Of course, I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of that connection. Hell, for all I know the word "dementia" was coined with just such a connotation in mind, but Merriam-Webster's dictionary doesn't seem to reference it so:

Quote:

Main Entry: de·men·tia
Pronunciation: di-'men(t)-sh&, -shE-&
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin, from dement-, demens mad, from de- + ment-, mens mind -- more at MIND
1 : a condition of deteriorated mentality often with emotional apathy
2 : MADNESS, INSANITY
- de·men·tial /-sh&l/ adjective

Encyclopedia Brittanica lists dementia thusly:

Quote:

Chronic, usually progressive deterioration of intellectual functions.

Most common in the elderly, it usually begins with short-term-memory loss once thought a normal result of aging but now known to result from Alzheimer disease. Other common causes are Pick disease and vascular disease. Dementia also occurs in Huntington chorea, paresis (see paralysis), and some types of encephalitis. Treatable causes include hypothyroidism (see thyroid gland), other metabolic diseases, and some malignant tumours. Treatment may arrest dementia's progress but usually does not reverse it.

Soooo... I might be crazy - or demented - but it's an interesting idea to ponder. Sorry to threadjack... Now back to your regularly-scheduled program.

It has been noted that in the commentaries we find out that Inara has a 'secret'. The secret seems to be a terminal disease.

This gives Inara a reason to leave the Academy. She decides to see the Verse before she dies. Also, perhaps the treatment for her disease is expensive, and she needs the large fees to pay her medical bills.

Plus, if you watch "Our Mrs. Reynolds", in the scene where Mal goes to her shuttle, Inara gets a weird look on her face when Mal mentions having children.

So, I am guessing that Inara has a terminal disease and that SHE IS STERILE either from the disease or the side effects of treatment for the disease...
