OK first, ouch!

And then my tale....

I was downloading music and was looking for rare Avril Lavigne music. Found a copy of her covering the song Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer, (yes, I'm going somewhere with this) Though I have heard the song many times, this time I recognized the line "strike up the band and watch the FIREFLIES dance silver moon sparkling"

yep, I'm helpless.

Ok for me, it would be looking out my front door, down by our pine trees where almost every evening we have fireflys flashing on and off... on and off... on and off... We live out in the county 8 miles from the closest town and 1/4 mile from the closest neighbor and 3/4 mile from the next closest neighbor, and then over a mile from the next closest neighbor....

And of course with the prominent Western theme, every morning and evening when I go out to feed, water and do 'what-ever' with my horses (23 of them) ... and hear them eating... sneezing, and stomping.. and the occasional Whinney, (horses never whinney as much as depicted in the movies....) I think of Fire fly...

And then finally....

I am a crack shot with a rifle.... and not bad with a 'scatter gun' (if any of you also watch John Wayne Westerns... what movie was that from???? )

AND...

if I'm close enough... I am pretty good with a pistol..... (357 Magnum is actually my preference)... My preference up close though is a shotgun... My preference at a distance is a rifle... so of course I think of the premier episode Serentity... When he met with Patience?? on Whitefall??? (I have only watched these episodes through once or twice)... So please bear with my nievete' "sp"... and my newness...

When Jayne was behind the sights of the sniper rifle... It just brought back vivid memorys... I was in the army and had the 250 Meter target in site many times... and got it most every time...(the drill seargents started refering to me as Cochise) I was an expert shot...

This scene almost made me fell like I was laying there in the prone position, stock pressed firmly against my right shoulder, looking through the site, being very conscious of my inhaling and exhaling.. to anticipate when I may have to 'take my shot'... looking first at Mal, and Zoe to make sure 'MY' people were ok.... (OK... fantasizing a little about what would happen if Mal wasn't in the picture and I would get the chance to 'be in charge...') But then realizing Mal is the leader, 'MY CAPTAIN' and, I am looking to the 'bad guys' to see if they were playing by the rules... I could take them out from this distance and protect my captain.... and Zoe, who ( I suspect) ... he respects... (Even thought he wansn't a 'Brown Coat'...

Well, I've been awfully Long winded this morning.....

Have a great day...

Leah... "Ro"

Will you adopt me, or take me in or something? Whereever it is that you are, I wanna go.

I read in the Sunday paper that strawberries can reduce stress and calm anxiety and I thought y'know, I'm not sure that's what I saw on Kaylee's face when she ate the most perfect strawberry in the 'verse, but heck - if that's another reason to eat strawberries, we'll take it!

From an actual ad on the community board in my coffee shop this morning.

"Painting Spaces - Decorative Painting
If your space needs a new look then please call JAYNE at (phone).

Free personalized gift with every child's painted room!"

I don't know whether to be shocked or to just fall to the floor in hysterical laughter.

Had a crazy nightmare last night. Was being chased by the blue hands with two other people, tho I can't remember who now, but one of them was a River equivalent. There were a lot of dusty tunnels. The goal was to be able to get back to a certain point where we could stand on vinyl flooring and eat cereal and that would save us. I never made it. I had to hide in a storm drain and got dirty mopping water poured on me and then the blue hands found me. Luckily I woke up.

I was in Spanish class at school, and the teacher called someone up to write something on the board. They were meant to write "No se permitten" meaning "they aren't permitted" but they accidentally wrote "go se permitten".

"Dog crap allowed."

I started laughing hysterically. Everyone stared at me like I was insane. When I eventually stopped laughing, I spent the rest of the lesson avoiding other people's amused glances and mocking remarks by muttering words like "whoo dahn" and "ta ma duh."

"...So dawn goes down to day,
Nothing gold can stay."

JOHNNYREB

After Johnny Cash died, I dug out all my albums, tapes, CD's, and 8-tracks; I was going to take the entire weekend and part of the following week to have a Johnny Cash-fest. The whole time I listened to the Man in Black, I thought about Johnny, his life, my life, my friends and family, etc., then I heard "Don't take your guns to town."

A young cowboy named Billy Joe
grew restless on the farm,
a boy filled with wander-lust
who really meant no harm.

He changed his clothes, and shined his boots,
and combed his dark hair down.
And his mother cried as he walked out,
"Don't take your guns to town, son.
Leave your guns at home, Bill.
Don't take your guns to town."

He laughed and kissed his mom
and said,"Your Billy Joe's a man,
and I can shoot as quick and straight
as anybody can.

But, I wouldn't shoot without a cause.
I'd gun nobody down."
But, his mother cried as he rode away,
"Don't take your guns to town, son.
Leave your guns at home, Bill
Don't take your guns to town."

He sang a song as on he rode.
His guns hung at his hips.
He road into a cattle town,
a smile upon his lips.

He stopped and walked into a bar
and laid his money down.
And his mother's words echoed again,
"Don't take your guns to town, son.
Leave your guns at home, Bill.
Don't take your guns to town."

He drank his first strong liquor then
to calm his shaking hand
and tried to tell himself, at last,
he had become a man.

A dusty cowpoke at his side
began to laugh him down.
And, his mothers words echoed again,
"Don't take your guns to town, son.
Leave your guns at home, Bill.
Don't take your guns to town."

Bill was raged, and Billy Joe
reached for his gun to draw,
but the stranger drew his gun and fired
before Bill even saw.

As Billy Joe fell to the floor,
the crowd all gathered 'round
and wondered at his final words,
"Don't take your guns to town, son.
Leave your guns at home, Bill.
Don't take your guns to town."

How Firefly-esque is that? That dusty cowpoke could just as easily have been Jayne. That young cowboy could just have easily been Mal right after he left Shadow. After, this song. I started tying every Johnny Cash song into Firefly, in one way or another.

Thanks, Johnny. 1932-2003

I just got an e-mail from Serenity.

Well, not our Serenity, but it did read “serenity” as the sender. The message ended up to be spam about mood swing medication.

Funny how Firefly can twist your brain when you least expect it, isn't it?

For me, I used to think driving with two hands on the wheel was the sure sign of insecurity. Then somehow, watching Wash fly Serenity made it cool.

Today on imdb.com

"Back in 1998, the premise for The Truman Show, in which the entire life of one man is broadcast worldwide as a hit television show, was just fantastical enough to seem slightly beyond reality – these days, not so much."

As I read the last sentence, I could hear our cap'n speaking.

The music, lyrics, and Eddie's voice on Pearl jam's "Thumbing my way" from their Riot act album. It's a strecth, but...

I have not been home since you left long ago
thumbing my way back to heaven [...]
I cant be free
with what's locked inside of me
if there was a key,
you took it in your hands
there's no wrong or right,
but I'm sure there's good and bad
the questions linger overhead [...]
all the rusted signs
we ignore throughout our lives
choosing the shiny ones instead
I turned my back
now there's no turning back [...]
I smile, but who am I kidding?
I'm just walking the miles
every once in a while get a ride
thumbing my way back to heaven

I was just sitting in my bosses office (I work at a construction place) typing something for him when one of our field workers came in to talk to him. I wasn’t really listening to them until this caught my attention.

Field guy: We gotta hurry up and get that round pipe for DLZ ordered before the end of the week.
Boss: Work on something else now, piece ‘a round pipe’s nothing.
Field guy: It’s nothing till you ain’t got one, then it seems to be everything.

Little things like that have happened to me dozens of times at work so I’m not sure if it’s just that I’m bored all day and my mind wanders, of it they’re starting to make fun of me.
