Hello browncoats,

recent recruit here friend of mine told me a couple of weeks ago that I simply MUST watch his box set of Firefly. (I had seen the movie and thought it was good already) 10 days and 3 full watchings (hmmm is that a word?) of the entire set later I'm hopelessly addicted to the 'verse Ironicaly enough I was a avid hater of the fox execs before but now I just loathe them for letting a show like Firefly go.

But anyway getting to the real reason for my post. I've read a bit on the forumns and seen alot of references to 'Blue Sun' I know that it refers to a merger between Microsoft and Coca-Cola was it? Where was this mentioned in the series though? Have I somehow managed to overlook it? Where can I find out more about Blue Sun and it's importance on the show?

Welcome aboard! Go to have more and more new crew. But to answer your question Blue Sun is subtly here and there in the series. Jayne wears a Blue Sun shirt in the train job and the episode where River cuts Jayne with the knife. You also see Blue Sun logos everywhere in the background at Eavesdown docks at persephone.

As far as I know it is kinda like a huge company, I believe it was Joss who said that is was compareable to Coke and Microsoft merging. Well that's all I can tell you. Other Browncoats are sure to know more, since I'm still a might new to the 'verse my own self.

Hi, and welcome to the 'verse!

Blue Sun is a giant corporation that pretty much owns everything in the core, and a lot outside it. They're everywhere ... for your convenience of course. There's a suggestion that they're the ones behind the experiments on River.

If you watch the DVDs again (and I know you will ) you'll notice a lot of posters and ads for Blue Sun. Also, the shirt Jayne is wearing when River slashes him in 'Ariel' has a Blue Sun logo. "He looks better in red." and the labels on the cans of food she tears off have the same logo too. ('Shindig')

ahh ok thnx for the responses, I just have seen all the mentions of it on this site and was thinking there was a direct mention of it somewhere in the series and I missed it somehow.

One of my friends (the one who got me hooked on Firefly) is going to Gencon this year and I'm considering going with him. I was thinking it would be nice... ahem* shiny if I could get one of those blue sun logo shirts I've heard mentioned before. Any place sell those?

oh btw, where are these browncoats I hear spoken of? Need I fill out a requisition form?

Where are the browncoats? Go look in the mirror! You have joined the ranks. Be proud.

No applications. Naughty men who slip about don't like to leave an address and contact number.

Check out www.bluesunshirts.com - I've never bought anything from them, but their range looks good.

Welcome, Stick.

Have you watched the first couple of eps with the commentaries? I know they talk a little about the Blue Sun stuff on there. But pretty much, they were planting seeds for the future - you know, subtley and matter-of-factly estabishing Blue Sun's ubiquity, and later, cryptically introducing River's dissonance with it (tearing the Blue Sun labels off the cans, slashing across Jayne's Blue Sun logoed chest).

But yeah, it was never directly addressed in the series or movie - it never had a chance to be. So, for now, it's just another layer of texture that we'll hopefully learn more about in future incarnations (along with Book's specific history, Inara's secret, et al.).

Oh ok yah I guess I'll have to watch the set another 3 times with the commentary on so I can catch everything now. Yeah I also noticed there was alot of room for plot development like you said, Isaac's past, Inara's interest in touring the rim, River and Simon, Jayne. So many plotpoints never explored. ugh, stupid fox executives.

No harm done DesktopHippie. And by the way, just cause they call me Shepherd, doesn't mean I am one.
