Longest running sci-fi series, Stargate SG-1, will feature a special 200th episode. These are the words of Brad Wright, exective producer of SG-1, according to geos.tv:

"We'll see Willie Garson," executive producer Brad Wright said. "He's coming back. It's sort of a full circle thing. The story, in short strokes, is Martin Lloyd has come to the S.G.C. because even though "Wormhole X-Treme!" was canceled after three episodes, it did so well on DVD they're making a feature. A little kiss to "Serenity" and Firefly, which was possibly one of the best canceled series in history. And we're the Air Force consultants on the script."

I have no idea whether or not the comment about Serenity/Firefly should be inside the quotes (which means these are his words), but that is pretty cool.

Oh yeah, and Richard Dean Anderson is coming back for that one!!!

God, please make Jack kill Mitchell. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!

I think I read that richard was going to be in quite a few episodes of SG-1 as well as Atlantis. But no killing mitchel, he's no Jack but...I dunno, he's grown on me, just like Atlantis is...has? Will do?

This is really shiny news!

And Richard Dean Anderson coming back! Awesome!
But don't let him kill Jack.. I like Jack.

Can someone at the Scifi channel please bring back Firefly... it'd make a fine lead in to your SciFi Friday line-up! ( wishes that there were SciFi folks in charge lurking!)

Oh, don't kill Mitchell. Granted, Ben Browder cannot live up to RDA, but he's grown on me.

And Sci-fi channel used to have them on at 7:00 leading into the Friday night festivites, but they stopped doing it.

Um, wasn't Brad Wright the one who was saying that the problem with Mal was that he kept making bad decisions? Don't quote me on this though...

But 200th episode? A tribute to Firefly? Awesome!

I loved their 100th episode and I'm glad that they're planning to re-visit the same idea. Why go big when you can go ridiculous? And if RDA is coming back, I'll be even happier.

RDA is coming back for 5 episodes total. Which in my mind is come of the goram shiniest news I've heard lately. Can't wait for Jack to be back, I hope it's a big part when he's there and not like the little part he had at the begin of the 9th season.

Someone asked when this will happen, the 10th season starts in July and as far as I know the 200th episode will be toward the beginning of the season.

As for killing Cam, I don't know, personally not big on Cam but love Ben (being a Scaper and all). So far I don't like Cam, he's not a team player and that bugs me, but hopefully he'll come around. It's Vala Jack should kill, she drives me crazy and now she's going to be a permentant, regular cast member. grrr

I know what you mean about Vala, but her most recent appearance in the last couple of episodes were significantly toned down compared to her previous efforts. Perhaps she will undergo a Cordelia or Wesley-esque personality change ala Angel.

Oh my god, permanent Character Development... in SG1?? How can it be????

I heard that in season 10 they are adding an Asguard to SG-1, his name is going to be Rigel, and they are also going to be renaming the show to Fargate SG-1.

As a proud member of the SPCC (the Society For Prevention of Cruelty to Crichton), I have to agree that Ben is just too much fun to watch. SG-1 was winding down but (IMO), but with Ben (and Claudia) on the show, I'm in for another couple of seasons!

Except of course, SG-1 isn't the longest running SF series, not by a long way, only 9 seasons in 11 years. That honour belongs to Doctor Who with 28 seasons over 42 years.

Yes, but Doctor Who is so... British.

Ooh, this does seem shiny news!

'Haps maybe SciFi got the hint that O'Neil was part of the reason for the success of SG-1? I sure hope so, one of my complaints is that Mitchell doesn't fit too well with the original crew and that annoys me.

When, exactly... is the 200th episode by the way? I'm all excited now!

Also (in the SG-1 versus Dr. Who debate), SG-1 hasn't had a season-long "hiatus" (read: "cancellation with a possibility of resurrection") in its past; it's been in regular, ongoing production.

Calling it "the longest continuously-running sci-fi series in history" would be accurate AFAIK.

Instead of arguing over who series is longer, errr, I mean ran longer; lets just be happy any half-way decent scifi series made it past one season before being killed.

As for the 200th episode, it looks like it will be the 6th episode of the 10th season. If you're interested in Stargate news gateworld.net is generally a really shiny source.

I'm sorry, but I really hate Ben Browder's acting in both Farscape and SG-1. He plays the same character all over again, and he's such an over-actor. RDA is WAAAAY better. Just reading fans' favorite RDA moments on SG-1 and other shows made me realize that http://www.rdanderson.com/features/bday5/favorite.htm

While we're on the subject- a few stuff about SG-1 and RDA:
News:
* RDA is coming back for 5 episodes. Rumored to be quest appearing on SGA too.
* Don S. Davis (Hamond) rumored to be coming back for 10 episodes.
* Richard's "dream come true" appearance on The Simpsons, is now scheduled for April 9th. Richard is the "special guest voice" for the episode "Kiss Kiss Bang Bangalore." The episode description reveals that "Selma and Patty meet their Hollywood heartthrob, MacGyver, and kidnap him for their own obsessive worship. When Anderson discovers how exciting real-life drama can be, he refuses to leave until Selma and Patty devise their own plan." New episodes air at 8pm on FOX. Check local listings.

That's okay - everyone has their own opinions on who's who in the gate'verse and that’s what makes things good and exciting.

Me? I preferred 'Jack Classic'[S1-S3] to the 'Dumb Jack' we started getting around S4. The last couple of seasons, pretty much since S6 in fact, it hasn't felt 'felt' like RDA was a jacked up and enthusiastic as he was in the earlier seasons. He ‘felt’ tired – like he was just going through the motions.

And I certainly preferred 'Original Sam' to the one they keep trying to give us now. ‘OrigSam’ was a consummate professional woman. The ‘SamLite’ they’re try to foist off on us comes across as a needy, 40-something fem who can’t make up her own mind and dithers in place, creating all sorts of havoc. I mean the sort of stuff no Lt. Col. should ever be doing [ogling her old CO who’s still in her chain of command, BTW, etc] yet she can do anything and everything else perfect, whether it’s in her field of expertise or not.

For me, the one constant has been ‘Daniel Jackson’. It’s been fun watching the character grow and change over the season. But then, I'm a serious Michael Shanks fan, so there's that [ www.michaelshanks-online.com].

Yeah because real military can't possibly have feelings. He doesn't work there anymore. They married in secret. Get over it.

Yeah, and the General Courts Martial was in secret too, I'm sure.

The problem is, ya see, things haven’t really changed vis a vis that whole ‘chain of command’ thing.. Yeah, he was promoted out of the SGC proper and is now head of Homeworld Security. But he’s also part of the oversight committee that deals with the SGC. This is referenced in the show when he’s talking to Laundry about budgets, manpower and such. That still puts him in Carter’s direct chain of command. Carter – Laundry – O’Neill – PotUS. She can no more ‘go out’ with O’Neill than she can with her ultimate Commander in Chief, the President.

And I’m to believe it either is or is building up to a marriage *so* secret that *no* one knows about it? Not PAC [personnel admin.], payroll, med records[that whole next of kin thing], not anybody? Sorry, that just doesn’t happen. As a matte of fact, if they *did* do the whole ‘married in secret’ thing and didn’t report it, they’d both lose their security clearances and be out of a job. The government really frowns on folks in high level secure positions lying about stuff.

The ‘Real World’ would see two senior ranking officers with dishonorable discharges and loss of benefits and pensions.

To your assumption that military members don’t have ‘feelings’, well, we have feelings in the military, all right. We’re people just like anyone else. We simply know that they don’t have a place at work. People get killed if you bring your feelings to work. That’s why there’s the whole ‘no frat’ laws in the first place. That and making sure no one gets an unfair advantage over another for things like duty assignments, promotions, etc. The Uniform Code of Military Justice is very clear on stuff like this and when you raise your hand and take that oath, you swear to abide by it. You don’t just ‘put it aside’ because you get the hots for one of your subordinates or your superior. If you can break that little rule because you think it’s unfair, what other ones will you decide can be broken, hummm?

A lot of years in the military has given me some background in what's right and what will get you canned. So I guess I shouldn’t be the least bit concerned that some of the writers have sold the entire ‘women as professionals’ image that myself and a lot of other women in the service have fought so long and so hard for down the tubes to promote a bit of ‘can’t be a ‘real’ woman without a man’ thing.

But hey, that’s just my PoV and my opinion. You have yours, I have mine and evidently we both feel strongly about them. That’s cool. Your mileage may vary. That’s the way life is out in the ‘verse.

I agree w/you, I stopped purchasing the SG-1 DVDs at season 6...heard RDA left to spend time with his daughter, guess that was the reason for his lack of enthusiasum.

Love Michael Shanks also, he's always been underated, cute too. :)

Glad RDA is returning, though. Looking forward to the Wormhole Extreme episodes, and the tip of the hat to FireFly. Just wish the "Suits" would look at the DVD sales for Serenity & FireFly & realize they have a sure fire hot profit here & bring back FireFly in some format - the reality shows & sitcoms they are putting on instead are horrific!

But I bet they won't be acting THE SAME like Ben is in SG-1.

Jewel's performance on SGA was nice.
Adam's role on CSI was ok.
Gina's acting on The Shield was great.

And none of them played the same character as in Firefly.

The SG-1 episode in which Ben really got to me, is the one with the parallel universes, where Ben plays many "different Mitchells", but specific two- Original Mitchell, and First-Parallel-Universe-Team's Mitchell. He played them both as he was playing in Farscape as John and Evil-PeaceKeeper John.

Maybe Claudia could have done better if they haven't given her such crappy lines.
