i was wondering what the general opinion (if there could possibly be one) is on river post-serenity. i mean does everyone see her as mentally stable (within reason obviously, shes always gonna be odd being physic).

was it only miranda that messed up her mind making her to do crazy crazy stuff? could there be other awesomely secret secrets?

also, will the alliance continue chasing her as furious as they were in serenity or just in general seeming way like in firefly. could there be another operative?

She'll still be crazy, but not as much. She's still got that thing that holds back her emotions missing or broken or whatever it was. Remember in "Ariel" when Simon was looking at her he said that she's not able to not be scared or whatever.

But yea, she still doesn't have crazy secret screwing her up anymore, so she's a little better.

"Haha, mine is an evil laugh."

Interesting question! And one I've thought about myself.

I don't know about the general opinion, but my own personal one is that River is probably more stable than she was. I don't imagine she's cured though. Not only is she psychic, but her brain is still wounded from the procedures she went through. She still feels every emotion full on. She can't block it. That's going to be tough for anyone to deal with.

I imagine she still has trouble distinguishing between what's going on in the world around her and what's going on inside people's heads. I think River still sees the world the way she did in the opening scenes of "Objects in Space", so she's bound to appear a bit loopy to other folk in the 'verse!

The "I'm all right" line is one I've thought about a lot since the movie. I think it shows River realising that, bad as things are for her, she can face them. She was terrified of the truth about Miranda through most of the movie, and the knowledge of it was terrible for her to bear. "I shouldn't have to carry it. It isn't mine!" On Miranda she submitted fully to that fear. Even though it was overwhelming (I was almost in tears when she begged the dead to "please, get up!") she survived. And she still had her friends. And she was okay.

That's my opinion anyway. Um ... does it make any sense?

Quite the opposite: she can't "quench" her feelings, she misses the natural safety valve, so to speak.
So she can get scared to death, and/or feel courageous and daring like crazy the next day.

So I got it, at least ;)

Loved that part, anyway.

EDIT: uh, sorry, I misread your post, missed the "not".
It made sense already of course :)

That's the popular theory.

Yes, River still has the neural stripping thing going on. And we shouldn't minimize the problem of her psychic "static". Remember how she was paralyzed during most of the Reaver battle? "They're all full of rage. I can't shut them up." That, of course, all happened after the moment of clarity on Miranda.

The big difference, I think, is that River has now found the way to control and overcome those problems. That's why I think "My turn" is the key moment in the BDM. It's the point where River takes control of her special gift.

Yes, she'll still have moments of craziness because her brain has been damaged. But when the chips are down, she'll be able to function.

I don't disagree on any particular point.
