Somebody explain to me why every big sci-fi/fantasy convention has to be held on the West Coast where I have nigh on zero chance of attending.

I'm right there with you. I'd love a convention - ANY convention somewhere in the northeast. I live in NH, and I'd be able to qualify going about as far as NYC for a convention. But how 'bout Boston, even? Somewhere that doesn't require a plane ticket?!

Boo-ruttin-hoo! I live in Texas. It's half a continent to either coast where the big events happen. But here in Texas we learn to get in our cars and drive for days--and that's just to get to the grocery store!

People... this is what frequent flyer miles are for.

One reason the Flanventions are in LA is that it's the center of the film industry. If you want to get a bunch of actors to be guests at your con, it's a lot easier if you hold it on their turf.

I live in MD and went to the first FLANVENTION. I plan to go again in December. It's nice to get a break from the cold weather and get to see the BDH's in person!

Last time I flew was via Southwest out of BWI. Pretty cheap deal.

That would be nice since I don't have to fly from one coast to the other but then a FLANVENTION wouldn't be a FLANVENTION if it wasn't in LA.

Might I offer a compromise location. It is neither east or west coast nor north or south. In fact it is nearly the geographic center of the North American continent. Yes, I'm talking Sioux Falls, SD.

See, if FlanventionIII were held here, I could attend. I could likely find a childsitter, and even bring my luggage,uh...I mean, husband.

So we're not so fancy as CA or NYC, but we do offer Norwegian immigrant culture, the National Shrine to Music Museum in nearby Vermillion (awesome, awesome place), and pheasant hunting at the right time of year (Dick Cheney comes every year for that *warning* wear kevlar).

In conclusion, I think FlanventionIII should be held hear in good ol' Sioux Falls, SD.

There's no place I can be since I found serenity.

And with Ron Glass now attending, the average age just got a little higher for the guests. We can do the same for the average age of the attendees.

Now it's been awhile since i've been home. But Otakon (anime convention) is in balitmore, so its a good drive, but still a drive. Umm there is a small one that used to be held in Manchester at my old high school ,but i dont think hes doing it this year. I think theres a anime convention in Conniticut (can't spell) but i don't know the name. And i'm sure Boston has some sort of convention.

I understand, JerryT. It wouldn't be much fun without Summer. Another friend of mine is holding to see if she attends. And I'll share with you the rationale I shared with him:

Jewel is attending. Morena is a good friend of hers. Morena will come on board eventually, and Summer won't be far behind! It wouldn't be the same without her.

I hope you can make it!

Well, don't forget that it might be work obligations that are keeping the others from attending. Summer said on several occasions that she is attending every convention that she can because she loves it. Maybe she just, well, can't.
I have to add that Summer's attendance or absence play a big role in my decision wether to attend or not - It would make the 12 hour flight and hundreds of dollars spent feel more worth it just to see her smile.
Plus the consequent falling in love, marriage, kids, happily ever after thing.
