I am kind of new here, I just started watching the series a couple months ago. In that time I have seen the series twice, the pilot movie 3 times and the BDM 3 times. I listen to the soundtracks for the show and movie all the time. Also even before coming to this site I instinctively started spreading the word and loaning my disks out. The first person I loaned one to bought a set of his own so quick it shocked me. I have lots of movies laying around that I have'nt seen yet but all of my movie watching time is spent rewatching firefly. Do I have a problem? Is there a 12 step program or something?

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

How could you think you have a problem?
Even if you do, we all have the same problem, so we certainly wouldn't tell you there's anything wrong with you.
Why would you want to quit, anyway? Other than wanting to avoid the heartbreak of knowing there's not as much as there should be right now, I mean. We all share your pain in that.
No, no twelve steps. But at least now you have a support group and people to bounce ideas off of. And we're always happy to see new faces. Er... login names. Whatever.

Problem? Problem? Twelve steps?
No. There are sixteen steps. The 14 filmed episodes, the 1 unfilmed episode, the film.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Sorry, there is no cure. The best advice I can give is seek out others who are so afflicted, and gain strength from it.

Now, where'd I put my gorram FIREFLY cd??

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

It is instinctual, you got that right. The way I handle my addiction is I get new folks to sit through the episodes and movie with me. It's fun to watch them watch the show, since I've seen them so many times. Instant converts.

Addict? Uh, OK. And your point would be..? Welcome home!

Month? *month?* MONTH?
In whose outmoded form of time measurement?

Oh, and I'm now reminded that during the series' TV run there were "previously"s recorded by some of the BDHs to get viewers up to speed. Someone knew how to get these, but I don't.

How would they count as steps? Baby steps? Ah, too much chocolate here.

There is absolutely no problem with being addicted to Firefly/Serenity. If someone tells you that you have a problem, either convert them too, or go Reaver on them.

Personally, I think I have seen the series a total of six times (or something like that) and the movie about 8 times. Given, I am in university, and I just became a fan in October. I have also read the comics 3 times.

I can hardly wait until the Serenity di-cast 12 inch model from Dark Horse Comics comes out in a few months...... me want now.......

And what's this about an "unfilmed episode"??? Am I out of the loop on this??? Somebody fill me in please.

Actually I have seen the River Tam sessions. Is there only five of these? When did they come out and what for? Was it promotion for the film?
I have a comic shop and my distributor is out of the trade paperback of the comics now. It will be back in stock in a few weeks and I will be ordering one for me and a few for the shop. I had the original comics when they came out but had not seen the series yet so I did not read them and they sold out fast anyway.
I ordered the figures and plan to start stocking the series & movie. I pre-ordered the trading cards that come out soon. I also want a good source for the soundtracks, I have already had requests from folks hearing them in my shop. of course anything else I can find visual companion, books etc. will be added to the lot. Basically I will have a small firefly shrine when I am all done. Yeah I definetly have a problem.

P.S. Needy, I started to think no one was gonna get that. I have'nt seen the film either (not that there's anything wrong with that) but I heard that line used on letterman and other comedy shows. For extra points I just used another quote, what's it from?

Krigan,

I wrote this about 2 or so years ago, right after we found out there was going to be a BDM. I think it was even before they started filming. Anyway, hope it helps!

Firefly: a 12 step program for withdrawal

step 1: Admitted you were powerless over decisions made by Fox executives.

step 2: Came to believe that Joss could restore our faith in mass media. Or at least get a movie out to us. AND have a reeaalllly long gag reel on the Serenity DVD when it comes out.

step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Joss as we understood him.

step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of the tv listings.

step 5: Admitted to God, ourselves and everyone on FFF.net the exact nature of Fox's wrongs.

step 6: Were entirely ready to have Joss remove the defects (if any) of the movie during editing and post production.

step 7: Humbly asked Joss to let Mal be nekkid at least once in the BDM.

step 8: Made a list of all persons who have not seen Firefly and became willing to tie them up if need be to..."introduce" them to the show.

step 9: Made direct converts of such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. And maybe even then, if necessary.

step 10: Continued to do guerilla marketing techniques in Best Buy, Borders Books, Circuit City and assorted video rental outlets, and when the DVD was hidden away, promptly displayed it at eye level.

step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our freakish knowledge of every iota of each episode so as to win the Firefly trivia contests at each shindig.

step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry The Message (and all the other episodes) to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. While simultaneously attempting to actually live a life, work and pay bills when possible.

yeah...it was an idea of Joss' to promote the film...
Joss wrote & directed & played the role of the doctor and got Summer Glau to come in quick, before she ran off to start another project, to make the five videos...
then they released the first one at ifilms without an explanation....
and the rest followed about a week or two apart after that (by first one, I mean # 416 (2nd excerpt) came out first...
followed by # 1
then # 22
next # 165
and then finally we saw # 416 (1st excerpt)

very freaky and heartbreaking....

it sounds like my kinda comic book store!
I'm glad you are getting everything...
the comics are really fun, and help to bridge the gap between 'Firefly' and 'Serenity' (but you know that)

well I DID see 'Brokeback Mountain' and I liked the reference... I also got the Seinfeld reference.... Popular culture references are a Joss Whedon staple so they always go down well around here (JW being one of the few people I've ever known to slip in 'Watership Down' lines along with Plato...)
