Well I like sci fi in general so this could be a long list.

Firefly is on top to the point that if you had left out the word space it would still be there, obviously.

I like the original trilogy of Star Wars and a few scattered bits of the new trilogy.

I like most Star Treks, just not all of them. For example Enterprise seasons 1 to 3.

Farscape was fun, same with both Dunes (yes both) and even Children of Dune.

The new Battlestar I'm just getting into because Baltar's condition kind of repulsed me, not a big fan of insanity.

I love the Stargates.

And ... um ... I'm almost entirely sure that there should be more than I can count, but I won't hit that point for ages now. More than I can remember for sure.

For exampe Dr. Who and Aliens just popped into my head and I like them no less than those I've already said (save Firefly) so be assured that I am odd because I can not remember all of my FAVORITES. Good thing you didn't ask for ones I only mildly like.

I have a real weakness for Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Yes, yes, I know - everyone's happy and well educated and money isn't an issue and you get this nasty feeling that The United Federation is more or less The Human Empire. It's soooo very nineties (a shrink on the Bridge!?!) but it can be very enjoyable, if it doesn't quite manage to be epic. When it's bad, it's very, very bad, but when it's good it's cracking!

I found myself watching "Yesterday's Enterprise" last night and for the first time I realised just how very good it is. An interesting, creative story that managed to be emotionally compelling with a bunch of characters we'd never come accross before and one who'd died in series one who most people had forgotten. Okay, it's not Firefly or Buffy, but Next Gen can be very good, so it always gets my vote. I just wish I'd watched Deep Space 9 as I heard that was much darker.

And if we're going for favourite sci-fi I have to give a shout out to the brilliantly un-epic Red Dwarf. Smegging brilliant

Firefly/Serenity (Obviously)

Farscape (I had a huge crush on Ben Browder when I was younger)

Babylon 5 (Gotta love old reruns on Sci-Fi)

Star Wars (Original trilogy, course I only really watch for Chewy and R2)

Dune (Sci-Fi version) and Children of Dune (I really have to get around to reading the books)

Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (Occasionally I'd watch this when I was young, usually when I was bored and there was nothing else to do. It wasn't too bad though.)

Though not epic in length, it was epic in story, Voices of A Distant Star. It was about 35 minutes long but was concentrated like that Hawaiin Punch syrup they used to sell. Check it out. Though a bit cheesy at times, Space:Above and Beyond. It had love and hate and war and love and they featured both JR Cash and Patsy Cline in several episodes. And then there's that show with that guy from Two Guys And A Girl. Oh yeah, and Animal Mother. But it was on for such a short time, didn't they make a spin off movie or something?

Yes!

I'm not really into sci-fi apart from Firefly (of course), Farscape, BSG and maybe the odd Enterprise. However, I really loved Blake's 7 as a kid and still enjoy seeing it in reruns.

I too would love to see a 're-boot', I'd cast Clive Owen as Blake and John Simm as Vila - I'm not sure what actor could play Avon and not be overshadowed by Paul Darrow's earlier interpretation.

It would also need to retain it's British sensibilities which are much bleaker than America's. I'm sure if the series had been made by a mainstream American network the ending would have been very different - hugs and kisses all around perhaps ;)

I agree with everything listed above, but just to throw out some other things... So these aren't the best or anything, but they're still my favorites after the stuff mentioned.

The first Men in Black plus the animated series. The second MIB was kinda bland to me.

Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick universe. Not so much the movies--the movies are just ok--but the universe it all exists in seemed interesting to me. I mean we don't really see anything of a cohesive, galactic government or authority. There was potential there. It might've been handled better as a TV series.

The Last Starfighter. Yes. I said it. The Last Starfighter. All right, it hasn't aged well, but as it's the first movie to have computer generated ships and planets I think it deserves a mention. Plus the starfighter's design is pretty memorable to me along with the Death Blossom attack.

CONTACT- I know that 95% of the movie is set on Earth, but when you open your movie with a pull back shot that goes from the Earth all the way to the edge of the galaxy and beyond and your big scene is Jodie Foster being dropped through an interdimensional gateway and being slingshot across the galaxy in the blink of an eye, and all in a sci-fi movie that actually has a brain and basically asks the question about man's place in the universe, I'd categorize it as a space epic.

I just read Forever War, it sort of had a romance side story...didn't it? With the whole end end thing?

Alright on to the list:

FF\S (obviously)

Farscape (I was there in the beginning but events conspired to keep me from the last 2 seasons.)

Star Trek: TNG (never liked TOS, V was pretty good, DS9 was pretty good, watched about 2 eps of Enterprise)

Dune (Both and the book, prefer the book then the Sci-fi then the 70's movie)

Hitchhikers Guide (book, haven't seen\heard the rest of them)

Robotech (I read the books before I even knew there was a show or an anime (before I knew what anime was))

Armor (they need to make this book into a movie)

Original Star Wars (3 isn't too bad, 1 and 2 should never be spoken of again)

I only saw a couple of eps of Babylon 5 (I was really young at the time) but I think if I ever watched it I would like it.

In referring to "both Dunes" do you mean the David Lynch version and the Alan Smithee extended version?

I dont much like the Alan Smithee version mainly because it is presented full frame as opposed to widescreen but also because he used different sound effects in places and it just doesnt work for me.

Just to get off topic for a sec I recently watched an episode of "Bones" where 2 geeky scientists were talking and it was mentioned that one of them likes to watch reruns of Firefly. I thought it was cool is all..

I don't think either Dune movie captured the book at all. The book was brilliant (haven't read the rest of the series; have heard tell it might ruin something for me in true Star Wars form, so I just avoid it) and it just doesn't translate well to screen. At least they should have tried to make the characters look somewhat as they were described. (seriously, what was with the glowing eyes? Is there no contact budget for films anymore?)

1)FF/Serenity have been transported to the top just from me becoming such a fan over the last several months

since movies are included the next 2 on the list are movies.

2) Aliens 1 & 2, don't care to much for the others.

3) Planet of the Apes (the original)
Maybe not a space epic but the begining of the first one started in space.

I'm sure my list would and could be a lot longer if I could think of some others rights now. Just not able to. Also more than likely if I'd have seen some of the shows that are posted by others my list may be different as well. This is how it stands for now.

Sneaking Dr Who in by the stage door.

Space Above and beyond was very cool, but so disjointedly broadcast, it was a bit difficult to hook an audience.

Or maybe Vansen's lips were too scary / not GI. She was good, but you couldn't help staring. Leading man a little unmemorable, but the Chigs? Good baddies.

Top dogs still Firefly / Serenity / B5 / Aliens / Farscape. Do what you aim to, do it your way and it'll always outdo bland safe longrunning stuff.

Even if you don't last, better to burn bright as Roy Batty while you do.
