That was great. I'm totally going to be doing the "clearance, Clarence" and "vector, Victor" thing every time I watch it now. And probably throw in a "roger, Roger" even though there's no one actually named Roger (as far as I know) in Serenity.

Um, not to be the proverbial fly, ointment-wise, but, McAfee SiteAdvisor 'red flags' that link since it directly links to a site that maliciously alters users' computers without their consent.

To wit:
"When we tested this site we found links to fanatticrecords.com, which we found breaches browser security on our test PC."

So, don't forget to take extra precautions (i.e., wrap your computer in a 'jimmy hat')...

Alarmingly,

zoid

P.S.
McAfee SiteAdvisor is available as a free extension (Firefox) or plug-in (IE). Get it today...

P.P.S.
I thought the piece was hilarious. *sigh* Ah, I get all misty, pining for MST3K on Saturday mornings on SciFi! (NB: I just copy-pasted the piece into a plain-text doc -- sans images, naturellement -- to avoid having my computer screwed with.)

JAYNE: Hey! I’m talkin’ at you!!
TOM: (singing the theme to “Midnight Cowboy”) ....Everybody’s talkin’ at me....

KAYLEE: Some years back, there was call for workers to settle on Miranda.
TOM: Oh my God, Kaylee, do you ever talk about anything besides sex??

[The Operative’s escape pod ejects from his ship and hurls down toward the planet]
TOM: Look, R2D2 and C3PO are escaping from the Imperial battle cruiser!
MIKE: Tom, for the last time....

ZOE: How much ammo do we have?
JAYNE: Three full mags, and my swingin’ cod.
CROW: An adulterous fish really isn’t going to be of much help to us right now, Jayne.

CROW: So.... this movie failed at the box office?
MIKE: Well, it didn't do that well.
TOM: And the TV series got cancelled after just fourteen episodes... ?
MIKE: Um... eleven, actually....
CROW: But American Idol, The Apprentice, Survivor, shows like that, are hugely popular....
MIKE: Yeah, I guess. Kids sure seem to like them.
CROW: You know, Mike... I hate to say it, but I think you may actually be better off being stuck up here in outer space.
MIKE: * sigh * You may be right.

Well, it's not like I'm pitching a fit over which Darrin Stephens was better, Dick York or Dick Sargent. Now THAT'S old school !!

Joel was better than Mike, that's all I'm sayin'.

Yep. Heck, even Norton was a might uncomfortable with the link. And, to be sure, Norton's not the best at uncovering these conspiracies. Sadly, I elected to take a pass.

I actually just thought up a MST3K kind of comment for SERENITY. It's when Simon uses the safe word (sorry if I have this wrong)

Joel: (as Simon) Ay te kuum n.... n..... nacho....nightshade. It's an N word. It's definitly an n word.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
"There's only one "Return" ok, and it ain't "of the King", it's "of the Jedi."

"Maybe we should start calling your friend 'Padme' because he loves 'Mannequin Skywalker' so much, Right? (imitating robot) Danger...danger...my name is Anakin...my shitty acting is ruining saga."

Excerpt of internet teaser for CLERKS 2.

Bump this thread back up. Just thought ofg another comment that could be added on.

(off the horror stricken look of Young Miss during the opening)

CROW: This wasn't in the orientation video.

Whenever I see the flick, I can't help but feel sorry for the gal as she's watching her boss being killed by some guy with a sword with no name or rank. Even though she works for the Alliance, she doesn't seem like an evil woman. She's just a gal doing boring office work and probably earning a measly paycheck. The last thing she needs to deal with is this shit.

I'm guessing she's not that nice a person.

OK, I'll give you that. I'm just saying that not everyone who works for the Alliance are evil people. Most of them are probably regular office workers doing regular office work and living normal everyday lives. It would be the higher ups in power who would be corrupt.

I direct your attention to the 1985 sci-fi classic BRAZIL. I re-watched BRAZIL a while back, and I kinda realized that this movie could easily be set in the FIREFLY verse and be about some pencil pusher works for the Alliance, but dreams of escaping and flying away. Maybe if FIREFLY lasted 5 to 7 years, maybe there would have introduced a Sam Lowry type character who joins the crew who used to work for the Alliance, but one day just decided that he had enough of it and wanted to see the Rim for some excitement. Sort of like Simon and River, but in his case he would WANT to go out to the Rim and not HAVE to. Or maybe it would be just an hour long version of BRAZIL set in the FIREFLY verse. Different names, maybe different outcome, but similar in themes.

True but that particular person knew exactly what the Alliance did and did nothing about it (unless she was the one helping the group that got River out).

If you work for an evil empire, you are part of it and become tainted and at risk automatically. Surely as a Clerks fan, you know this? Those construction workers knew what they were letting themselves in for.

Yes but the Alliance isn't some evil empire, it is, as Joss says, largely benevolent.

-

And that was a great scene in Clerks, indeed it was one of the better scenes in movies in general.

-

She might not have known what she was doing, librarians don't read all of the books in the library and they don't actually need to read any of them, they just need to understand the numbers on the side.

She might not have been cleared to read the records she was keeping.

If she did know then I agree, she deserved worse than she got.
