I already said that I would just LOVE to see Bruce Campbell play a recurring character in Firefly, because, well, it'd just be PERFECT. Nathan and him would have a really shiny chemistry, imo, and Bruce is just so good playing likeable, grouchy scoundrels.

I could also see Michael Ironside play a bad-ass bad guy, although I guess he'd be too similar to the cop in The Message.

Just for giggles, I would like to see Rebecca Gayheart play a guest role as a companion, to see how THAT would have gone. She's not my type, but it would be interesting.
Does anyone have the footage that was taken with her as Inara before Morena was cast instead, btw?

I also think that Jet Lee would make an incredible operative or something like that.
As a side note, I noticed that so far we've only seen Chinese EXTRAS, and even those very scarcely, and that's in a 'Verse that's supposed to be heavily influenced by Chinese culture. What gives?

So who else do you think would fit for one role or another in our beloved series? Preferrably not replacing existing characters.

The Serenity Summer Campaign is on, baby - prepare to kick some serious pigu!
September 30th is Serenity 'Versary! Be there or be a purple-belted poop-head. (<- not the official slogan.)
I'm so into Firefly, my butt glows in the dark.

Jet Li was who I had in my head as Carlton Wei Fen, (though I described him as Eurasian.)

Bruce Campbell would be hysterical. Particularly as an Autolycus type. (I feel crack-fic coming on...) In fact, you have just broken my brain.

I do that a lot.

Care to give me some linkage?

Who would you have playing Ott, if they ever filmed 'Those Left Behind'? Possibly Tony Leung?

I think we would have met Chinese characters - Li Shen was a buddy, who had an Operative moment in the BDM.

Linkage to what, sorry?

The name Carlton Wei Fen doesn't ring a bell, so I thought it was from a piece of fan-fic or something.

Tony Leung would be a good Ott, but we haven't seen a lot of Ott, anyways. Jet Lee would have been fine for that role as well, if not for that "drop the gun and kick it in his face" thing, which I personally would find weird, seeing that Ott couldn't dodge it.

I'd appreciate feedback, if you like the thing.

I really should be checking out the Blue Sun Room more.
I'll read it later today and share my thoughts.

Oh man,
I clicked on this with Bruce in mind, not because I think it needs him but just because he's so friggin awesome in everything. But Brisco County makes it a lot clearer.

A cameo or two from some spaghetti western stars would be cool, Clint Eastwood might be out of the question, but Eli Wallach would fucking ROCK!
Also Franco Nero, Ernest Borgnine or Giuliano Gemma would be cool.

But man, just think how cool villains Charles Bronson, Lee Van Cleef or Klaus Kinski would have made.

Kris Kristofferson would make a cool father figure for Mal, like one of the shadow ranch hands or maybe his superior officer from the war. Halfway between rubber ducky and Whistler.

Paul Newman or Robert Redford or better yet both.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid would be total fucking Mexico.

And Christopher Walken because he’s scary and would make a kick arse cowboy.

I think Mr Cobb Snr would be a scary-ass mix of Clint Eastwood and Kris Kristofferson. (I will be pursuing this matter further...)

Rutger Hauer would be way creepy - Operative or officer, something senior and dangerous.

That bloke wot plays Lionel Luthor (I've blanked on the name) also does a nice line in creepily oppressive authority figures.

James Marsters, just 'cos - Spike

oh God Bruce could wreak untold havoc and the combination of him and Jayne scares me no end...mind you Sam Raimi and Joss are my two favorite directors, but their styles are so different ( I digress)
I'd so love to see Chris Eccleston doing something similar to his doctor who...that'd be fun
or how about Catherine Zeta Jones as the head of Inara's companion house...hmmm I could go on forever

I choose to rise instead of fall- U2

I'm so glad someone else has seen this film. Everyone else just stares at me, especially when I yelped at the Matrix rip-off of Tony Goldwyn's line - he'd do for a part.

David Carradine? I'm going with the QT/Shaw brothers vibe.

CYBERSNARK

Don't count out the big names; show them the series and they might pull a Whoopi Goldberg.

(Whoopi was known as a movies-only name back in the 80s, but when she heard about Star Trek: TNG, she begged for a guest spot and became Guinan. What I'm sayin' is, we get 'em hooked, and they might decide to slum in TV-land for a bit.)

Me, I'll echo the Bruce Campbell vote.

Also Patrick Stewart. I know what you're thinking, but Steamboy showed me that the guy's got range (he plays this addled, half-psychotic old engineer, spends half his scenes ranting and raving about God's Will and such) --you just don't see it 'cause he's always typecast as the cerebral leader-figure. Plus, every candid thing I've seen suggests that he'd get along great with Nathan & Joss' senses of humour. ("I think the question we should be asking ourselves is: can one really be involved in 'too many' franchises?")

And yeah, we need more Asians. Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat, Jackie Chan, Linda Park, Michelle Yeoh, Ming Na. . .

Bruce Campbell? Hell yes!

How about Michael Clarke Duncan for an arms dealer, upscale core arms dealer...

Sam Elliot would make an excellent Browncoat too.

I like Catherine Zeta as a companion...

Sarah Chalke as Kaylees sister..

While I'm on the Scrubs line, how about Neil Flynn and John C. McGinley as part of the crew Bruce runs with. Add Patrick Warburton and they could be part of Jaynes clan even.

I think bruce (ash) cambell would be perfect. have him be one of mal's mentor farm hands from home.

I guess once we get a new series, we're gonna have to bring Bruce to Joss' attention.
He'd get along with the rest of the family quite well, too. There would be much joy and merrymaking.

I agree - Bruce Campbell rocks!!

His acting has so much more range than is normally used - yes he can do heroic (but goofy), as per Brisco and the Evil Deads etc, etc - but he can also do "real" drama and damn good pathos see: American Gothic, Homicide and Bubba Ho-Tep.

I'd also like to see Gary Cole, several Ozians (including the great Lee Tergesen and JK), and yes, Leung Chi-Wai would be great as a major "Asian" character, he has a greater range than Jet Lee - I loved him in Cyclo.

I second the Sam Elliot nomination. I see him as an ex-independence general (probably because I remember him most from Gettysburg...well that and the Big Lebowski) who is living on the rim, maybe a town mayor or something that calls on Mal's help when he has a problem.

Also, Jayne's mom should be Dr. Ruth.

Bruce Campbell would be badass.

How about Christopher Walken? "Serenity. She's a beautiful ship. All she needs is more cowbell."

"A government is a body of people, usually notably ungoverned."

Hey, folks. No Bruce Campbell yet, but we've been quietly working on "virtual casting" for our little Firefly project at www.stillflying.net, and hope to share our choices with you soon (for all dozen or so episodes we currently have), when we make some changes to the site.

All characters who've appeared in important roles in our episodes will be cast, and that includes Ott (and his female sidekick, Nico). We've got a brilliant casting director who's found a great bunch of actors for us.

Beyond some of the choices we currently have made, I can't wait to use Josh Holloway, M.C. Gainey, and Robert Knepper.

NCBROWNCOAT

I third the Sam Elliott. He's been an awesome actor in both military picutres (remember him first in a WWII-Vietnam miniseries Once an Eagle)and westerns and also has a great drawl that is pure Browncoat.

Another good actor would be Tom Selleck and of course Paul Newman would rock-Cool Hand Luke Himself.

Sean Bean and Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin?

I'm having a catharsis here...

I was going to say Pete Postlethwaite (Kobayashi in Usual Suspects) but my brain has gone a bit...

Sorry, what was I saying?

Oooh, Tommy Lee Jones or Gary Busey.

Christopher Walken - yeah.

Sorry, the Sean bean thing is back in my head again, and causing....
