CYBERSNARK

I was recently pointed towards some of Sci-Fi's Stargate adds:
http://video.scifi.com/player.html?dlid=23642 (for Stargate Atlantis, featuring McKay and Sheppard, and Stargate SG-1, featuring Carter and Teal'c). They're hilarious! I especially like McKay's, with the runaway elevator, the sarcasm, and the self-love.

These are what Fox should've done for Firefly!

This, of course, got me thinking. The scenario's seem to be as follows: normal people, confronted with a difficult situation, the heroes suddenly appear and save the day with their individual skills. Sort of a "what would __ do?" situation, but where __ actually shows up to give advice. Realism isn't necessary (as Sheppard's pool shot demonstrates). The more inappropriate the character to the situation, the better (Teal'c playing poker).

So, what might some Firefly adds like this have looked like?

Guy's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, Kaylee shows up to fix it with some quick tinkering.

Office drone comes up with an idea, presents it to his supervisor, who presents it to his boss, taking all the credit. Jayne arrives to help the office worker get back at his hoon-dahn supervisor.

A mother/grandmother is in a toy store, trying to pick out a Birthday gift for her child/grandchild, utterly clueless. Wash shows up to offer advice and point her toward the dinosaurs --every kid loves dinosaurs.

A girl's sick, wondering if she should call in sick or try to get to work regardless. Simon enters, checks her eyes, tongue, and throat, and delivers a quick prescription (chicken soup, and some orange juice to boost her immune system, but nothing else until the fever runs its course). Girl is charmed, and Simon says something unutterably stupid.

Guy's in a clothing shop, picking out a new coat. He adjusts the mirror, revealing Mal standing behind him. Mal criticizes the coat; too trim and tailored. Man's coat should have some give in it. You wouldn't wanna be runnin' and jumpin' and have somethin' tear, now, would ya? He demonstrates by putting the guy through some stretches and wild arm-flaily moves (wide shot to show how silly this looks). Then he suggests the guy try something in brown. . .

Cybersnark, those are brilliant.

How about one for Inara?

Woman in bathrobe, pitching a fit because
the water heater has quit and she needs
to clean up.
Enter Inara, carrying her sponge and her
bowl of water.
"Here, let me show you a Serenity bath..."

Excellent ideas. Probably still wouldn't have been the best way to advertise for the show initially but definitely would have drawn attention to say...a second season?

Try this one on for size:
Guy is trying to cook a romantic dinner for his wife or girlfriend. Tastes whats in the pot and makes a face like its disgusting. Book comes in and says, "its amazing what you can with a few spices," throws some things in the pot, stirs and lets the guy taste it. Guy likes it and says, "Thanks! Did they teach you that in the monastary?" Book starts to walk off, "I wasn't born a sheppard."
-e

"Storms getting worse."
"We'll pass through it soon enough."

I like it.

The following is a mite un-polished.

People in one of the freezer aisles in
the supermarket. (This is the kind of
market freezer with the vertical glass
doors.)
They are having a friendly argument
about which kind of juice to buy, pointing
at this kind and another.
Behind the next door, there is River,
holding apple juice.
She opens the door.
They are taken aback.
River: It's just an object. It doesn't
mean what you think.
She gets out of the freezer and walks
away.
(Note! Not nekkid!)

Are ya'll aware that we've posted something similar for the Summer of Serenity Campaign?

Check out this thread and we'd love to see what ideas you have that would fit for these ads!
