Hello All!

So I was just pondering how we could possible get a singles dating link going on this site.

I know there must be a least some single people out there, and I am one of them! I would love for there to be a way to meet and or possible date other Firefly fans, because I gotta tell you, the pickings are SLIM where I am!

If any one has any thoughts as to how we could do this, or already knows of an exclusive Firefly dating site...let me know.

Love and Kisses, the very single

I started a "Firefly Singles" thread awhile back, and there was one started before that, too. I think it's a good idea, but it's hard to keep them from dropping into oblivion. Sad thing is we seem to be fairly evenly spaced out, I don't know that anyone has had any actual success with either thread. Sad me.

Sounds lovely though!

Well, it's good to know there is interest in doing something like this, but I was actually thinking of more then a thread, maybe a place on this site where we could post profiles (specificly for dating, not just our member profiles) and what not, but maybe that is too big, or not possible, I don't know, I just thought it would be cool!

I've looked at the Hidey Tower - doesn't seem to have anything to do with dating any more.

Having tried the internet dating thing a few times, I can say it would be nice to have at least one guaranteed interest in common (namely FF). You really can never be sure up front, no matter what someone's profile says. For example, "I love movies" in both profiles falls apart when it turns out that they like radically different kinds of movies.

I just never had good luck meeting compatible women via that method. Plenty of nice women, no one to complain about, but with one extremely bizarre exception no real connection with anyone.

I totally agree with you! I have also had terrible luck with on-line dating, it seems like I always end up with total losers that have nothing in common and just want to "get dirty" *EECK*

It would be great to meet people with a guarenteed interest such as Firefly!

Yeah, and I have met some great and possibly dateable people here. They all live quite a ways away, though. I think the closest is 700 miles away
Actual dating sites annoy me, which is why I refuse to pay for them. The free ones are annoying enough. And yeah, it seems like the geys on them aren't too... "picky". Eurgh.
I mean, I like getting dirty and everything, but Lord and Lady, can I know more than your name first? Like a lot more? Boo on them all.

Here's a quick little anectdote: Something over a year ago, I tried the free profile thing at eHarmony. Went through all their scads of questions - it's extremely thorough. Took way longer than any other dating site I'd ever tried. After all that, answering as accurately and honestly as possible, delving into very deep and personal areas, the site told me, "Sorry, but we won't be able to find a match for you."

Apparently they're unable to match something like 20% of people who do the profile. No explanation, just "Nope, you're not matchable." I even emailed their customer service about it and got no more explanation than "we aren't able to find matches for some people."

Left me feeling just great about me.

not strictly anything to do with the topic, but people are being dreadfully low and self-deprecating, and i thought they might need a giggle.

was just doing the laundry, went to shake out one of my tops, found out belatedly that one of the sleeves had tied itself into a knot, which proceeded to skelp me in the nackers.

laundry is too dangerous to be mans work!

How exactly are nackers skelped? I feel this is a life skill I should aquire for when men annoy me!

Ah hell, with that little glimpse into the dark place of my soul I have probably ruined my chances of ever finding a mate on here.

in this instance they were skelped with extreme prejudice but...oh, wait, well if it's for when they/we annoy you'd probably be better off using a knee then a rolled up sleeve, likely to prove more consistently effective in the long run

perhaps i should invest in acup then jeans for future laundry-expeditions piz...reccomend a manufacturor?

Well, it wasnt literally "you're not matchable," just words to that effect. Not joking, and it sure wasn't funny at the time.

The only thing I could think of was that the founder of eHarmony (the guy in the commercials - don't recall his name) is a fundamentalist Christian, so maybe, being the essentially the opposite of that, I answered some questions in a manner he wouldn't take to. That might not be it, but I couldn't come up with anything else. They sure weren't forthcoming about it, which makes me wonder what they have to hide.

It was disheartening at the time, but of course you're right.

That makes for more BOO on eHarmony, too, since they apparently can't find any way extraordinary women outside of the common rabble (or don't think there are any), when we all certainly know better.

Well, you know what we have to do in that event, we have to convert everybody in those intervening 50 miles so that we 'Coats ain't so far apart!!

I, too, have posted in the last couple of singles threads hereabouts. I think it's a neat idea, the only trouble is that when my backside lights up, the only answering light-ups come from 3,000 miles distant.* Still, Firefly is a great icebreaker and I'd like to keep trying - especially if 'Coats of the feminine persuasion happen to be as obsessed with it as I am.

Just a note to anyone that was kicked back by eHarmony, it's because the answers you gave to the questions catagorized you as a 'non-marrying type', I believe in the sense that they think you don't want to get married. So don't take it so hard . And in the spirit of fun:

25 yr old Mal type (always looked to as the 'leader' of my group) with a Jayne complex in New Berlin, WI (suburb of Milwaukee). Looking for anyone that shares my interest in FF and Serenity (and all things Joss for that matter). Not really looking for anything serious, but should I find the right lady, who knows?
