AKREDHEAD

Hi! (waves) New fan here...

Saw Serenity...loved it.

Bought Serenity...loved it all over again.

Splurged on the Firefly series...now I am falling in love with the cast...

I feel a bittersweet saddness when I watch the show...I love it so so much...I love the characters and admire the actors...and it makes me sad that there will be no more new episodes.

As a newbie...I was wondering if I can ask some stupid questions and hopefully not get flamed? You all seem so nice...(at least from the threads I've read...)

QUESTIONS:

1> Is fighting for the show to be picked up again really viable since some of the actors have moved on to other television and movie projects?

2> I grew up in a Trekkie home...and my mother read all the Star Trek novels religiously...do you think Firefly will have a similar series of books (like star wars etc) or is that not going to happen?

3> I'd love to learn more about Firefly...as a newbie where would you suggest I go to learn more about the fanbase...the rules of engagement etc.

That's about it...

Thanks for your time, ya'll...

Whew! Let's see if I can answer all your questions and not run off the page.

First off, welcome home. We're glad you're here!
New folks who sign on around here get their very own virtual browncoat, because... well, because you're a Browncoat now.

*hands akredhead a browncoat that should fit just fine from the storeroom*

You'll find that all of us here love the 'verse as much as you do. It's so easy to fall hard for this show and the cast.

Now, let's see if I can answer some of your questions.

1. Yes! They are all (ALL) signed for 2 more movies. All we have to do is show Universal that there is an audience out here for them. If we can't have another movie.. why not a mini series or a made for tv movie or another series on SciFi?
They show it from time to time and they are connected to Universal. Seems like we just need to help them do the math. Besides it seems with each convention we hear again how much this cast loves Firefly.. as much as we all love Firefly. They'll come back for it.

2. There are Firefly novels slated to come out.
Check some threads around here for more info. We'll have some more comics soon too. Maybe not a whole series of novels like Star Trek or Star Wars yet but maybe. Besides I kinda like hearing and seeing the actors.. so I'm more hoping that is where our next fix lies.

3. Actually I'd stay right here and not because I'm biased either. I've been around almost a year now and it seems this place has the most action for the fans to take part in and also the most information. Peruse the archives and do a google search of the site.. you'll find goodies aplenty! There are other sites and they are all linked to on the bottom of the front page. FFF.net is a nice central location from which to springboard to other locations. And I travel elsewhere in the 'verse.. but I always come home.

Check out our Summer of Serenity campaign. We've got lots going on, a vid contest, an ITunes buying spree, lots of opportunities to volunteer.

Make yourself to home, we'll be nearby if you have any other questions.

CYBERSNARK

Welcome home!

Make yourself at home. Someone will be along momentarily to provide links to the unfilmed script, the River Tam sessions, and someplace where you can buy the comics, soundtracks, essay books, novelization, and assorted fan-made swag.
There's plenty of food in the kitchen (and wherever it's been carried/thrown/tracked).

I'll get right to the questions.

(1) Normally in a case like this I'd be doubtful, but given how enamoured all the cast and crew seem, I like to think they'd gladly get back aboard, if only for the chance to work together again (work being the operative term; if you pay actors, you can get 'em to do pretty much anything ). Besides, some of these "other television projects" are on Fox, so you know they won't be around long.

(2) Well, there's the Serenity novelization by our very own KRAD (Keith R.A. DeCandido, whose name you know from many of the best Star Trek books [and I'm not just saying that 'cause he posts here, his ST books do tend to be best in show]), and a three-issue comic miniseries ("Those Left Behind," already collected as a TPB). Joss has told us there're other comics in the pipe, and KRAD (IIRC) has told us that treatments were sent in for Firefly novels, but none of them has been given the go-ahead yet. There's an RPG available, though I'm not sure how many books/supplements are out yet (no hobby store in my town, no-one but me who even knows what an RPG is ). In the non-fiction section, there's Finding Serenity (a book of essays from various persons of consequence), the Serenity Official Visual Companion, which contains production art, notes, memos, and the Serenity shooting script. The Firefly Official Companions are upcoming, in two volumes.

(3) You're in luck. Your best source is right here: look around to your heart's content. If you can't find something, just ask and several kind folks (and a couple of horrific ones) will appear to enlighten you.

EDITED because FollowMal is fast like a freak.

*the bun enters the thread, her floral
bonnet slightly askew, "airflow" dress
gaping where an underarm seam has come
undone. Burdened by crates and boxes,
she is one of the Ship's provisioners
and it's bad manners to ask whether a
particular commodity has been acquired
by means fair or slightly foul. In this
instance she might admit that a berry
grower is sitting in a dusty back alley
counting lumps on his head and wondering
why only part of his load has been taken.*

Welcome Home! Does akredhead mean Alaska
Redhead or am I jumpin' to an unwarranted
conclusion?

The new coat looks right shiny on you. FM
is a genius when it comes to fit.

And you've been offered a mug of the Mudder's
Milk, a tradition around these parts. Might
be RMMC will be along to offer you a drop of
the Dew as well.

I like to let our new friends sample the
strawberries, so here's a dish of them for
you. Mind you put the hulls down the hatch
labelled "Compost."

To quote one of our dear friends above:

Truer words were never spoken. Please
question the buffet to your heart's content.
There'll be a fresh dish of hot cheese in
a few minutes, and some new fruit, brownies,
wife soup, the works.

Please do not step on the ShipsCat or into
her dish.

Oh, and a special treat: "Dead or Alive"
script, un-polished, un-filmed.

Welcome, akredhead! I see followMal has already taken care of your questions and given you a nice shiny browncoat! It looks quite spiff on you if I may say so.

Right you are, Bun! Akredhead, please let me offer you a nice glass of Irish whiskey (Tullimore Dew) to enjoy.

There's more to eat and drink in the Partay thread. It's open 24/7 with food, drinks, dancing, music, and General Mayhem (Colonel Mayhem needed a break. )

It's always great to have new folks finding the 'verse and winding their way here.

Just remember one thing: there are no stupid questions. No shame in not knowing something, 'cause nobody knows everything and the best way to find out is to ask.

Welcome again!

*leans back in her chair and sighs with relief*

My, my ya'll sure do know how to make a newcomer feel welcome. I think I have found a home amongst you good folk and trouble making folk...I look forward to doing good deeds and bad deeds and everything in between with the fine population of this verse.

My browncoat feels like I've owned since I was young and the Milk has made a might straight bath to my cerebral parts.

*raises her flask*

To answer the question...Yes, AK in my name does mean Alaska...I reside there in the colder parts of the world...which seems a bit strange seeing as I'm from the desert of California.

I am a redhead...the only one in my family for generations...its a conundrom for my family to figure out where my locks have gotten their hue...but it is something I take pride in.

You can call me Red for short if it suits you.

Many thanks to those who answered my questions...I am excited to hear the good news that there is hope for cast members and that there might be books, too.

One more question:

I'm somewhat new to the world of fandomish things...any etiquite I should be made aware of that a newcomer like myself would otherwise be ignorant to?

*reaches for another strawberry*

Yup...I think I found myself a home that suits me just fine.

What do you mean "etiquette" exactly? Hopefully you won't troll. That's not good. So don't call people "steaming piles of gose (crap) dipped in xiong mao niao (panda urine)", that's not good. Came up with that one just now. :)

Basically, just don't be troll-ish. Beyond that, i'm not aware of anything really. Except saying that Firefly is bad. That would cause a backlash the likes of which you've never seen.

Anyway, welcome! And i hope you have a lot of fun here. I know i do.

Welcome!

Like any home, you'll find you just keep coming back. Me, I've been out of the (fff.net) world for a spell, but like Book I'm finding my place again.

The only etiquette is mutual respect, and sharing of your 'Verse ideas, far as I can tell...

Hi and welcome! It's always fun to have another voice added to the great variety of threads here.

I'm rather new to this, too, so my only suggestion would be to use the spoiler command if you're about to give away something that might surprise those who haven't seen all of the episodes or the BDM. I know that I would have been unhappy to know some of the details before I discovered them myself.

Have fun and post often.
