Who has the best acting skills as an actor/actress in Serenity/Firefly.

For me its Summer Glau not because she's my favorite but because of her mesmerizing performance as River. She played a part which would be extremly hard for an actress to play.Closely followed by Nathan Fillion.

I really love Summer, but I think Nathan has her beat. Some of the most moving moments of the show for me were his scenes.

Definitely has to be Summer. You'll always find that people who play a person/creature/whatever that is so different from what people would consider 'normal behaviour' have to be outstanding actors or else they can't sell it at all. Kind of like Andy Serkis with Gollum in the LotR movies.

Summer pulled off River with amazing skill. The tortured and broken soul who just wants to be a girl, like everyone else.

in the series, i'd definately go with nathan, he got to show so much scope and breadth of character, and did it all with so little pomp and show, love that kind of acting xD

but in the movie, it'd have to be summer, she was very convincing, and handled the swapabout from delicate and broken to killing machine so perfectly, can't be easy. as was mentioned, she really sells this flawed character

The guy who played Jubal Early definitely knocked by socks off. That quiet, menacing presence...

That aside, I'd go either with Nathan, Summer or Sean.

Oh yes, Richard Brooks was by far the best guest on the show. Even his voice...he brought out parts of the character Joss didn't even think at first.

Doug Savant, without a doubt, for a fine depiction of a war hero who has seen through the shallow self-deception of the Independent faction

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

It's really a toss-up, considering that these nine actors are the best ensemble ever to inhabit the same set. Each one of them is so integrated into their character and play off each other so well, it is extremely difficult to choose just one.

I will point out that I gave such honors to Summer in my Firefly review, mainly because she did such a remarkable job with a difficult role, and that she had the least experience of anyone in the cast.

However, Nathan probably has the most dynamic range, and did an even better job in the BDM than he did in the series, IMO.

No one has mentioned Adam yet! I'm shocked and appaled! Okay, not really. Well, everyone may think this is just a biased opinion cuz he is one yummy hunk of man, it's really not. I do think he brought the best acting to his character, in terms of facial expressions, his general mannerisms, just everything. Summer is amazing as well, seeing as she is somewhat unexperienced (well, compared to others) I think she would be my favorite female actress on the show. Everyone is really great though!

not to be going with the flow, but i really agree nathan in show summer in movie. as has been said, summer just did an amazing job w/ tricky stuff. as for nathan, every time i watch an ep. (any) i get drawn in by all the little little things he does that just make mal so much more real.

I think they all have the best acting skills, because they so totally inhabit the characters that they portray. Summer, Nathan, Gina, Adam, everyone. They bring with them an insight of the BDHs inner workings, and "act" accordingly. That is why I like the series so much. Anytime ANYONE is on screen, I am mesmerized. The acting is one of the things that will make this show immortal.

DONCOAT

I'd say it's pretty much impossible to rate the skills of any actor based on a single role (even if it's a repeated one).

For example, how could anyone tell how good an actor Harrison Ford would turn out to be based on the original Star Wars? Or that Chris Reeve was pretty much cardboard based on Superman I? It could easily have worked the other way around.

I haven't seen the BDHs in enough different roles, with different demands, to say who's the best actor. Alan and Adam have had quite a few jobs, which suggests that somebody thinks they're pretty good.

All that said, it's undeniable that Summer gave an incredible performance in both series and movie. Will she prove to be a great actor? I truly hope she gets the chance to show us.

(Apologies to any and all Christopher Reeve fans I just offended!)

I agree with Hera nad Doncoat. I can't tell who is a better actor since they all played such different parts. But I think the whole cast did great work and really brought their characters to life.
