Summer has been added to the cast of CBS's "The Unit" as the girlfriend of the newest team member.

http://www.summerglau.co.uk/news/

As Husband and I watch "The Unit", this could be a pretty decent role for Summer. The wives play an integral part of the storyline; they aren't just background characters.

*This link is from Summer's official website, so I suppose this would verify it. However, it is a cut and paste of the article from whedonesque.com which is from tvguide.com.

I'm already a fan of "The Unit" too. This just gives me one more reason to watch.

Congratulations to Summer.
Hope she gets some juicy scenes
to sink her teeth into.
But no more crazy stuff.
That has blighted other careers.
Ditzy would be okay.
Or terribly practical and dead serious.
Or wispy and romantic.
I can see her doing any of those, and
more.

I think they may be trying to appeal to slightly younger viewers.
I wouldn't be surprised if The Unit skews "too old" for some advertisers.
(Darn, that makes me feel ancient. "I'm not old, I'm 38" she said in a Monty Python voice)

That being said, I think Summer's addition will be a very interesting twist.

Shiny news for Summer!

On a semi-related note, could someone give me a review of this show? I haven't been watching it, but I've been hearing good things.

If I remember correctly one of the team members was NOT renewing his membership with the team. You know, the one who's wife was cheating on him with his boss?

Quickie Overview:

The Unit is an ultra secret unit within the Army who carry out covert missions around the world. They aren't above the law, but they are not under posse commitatus in some scenarios. Their wives all know their "secret" but are sworn to protect their husband's cover.

It's well written, and the action sequences are believable. I like the show and the storyline.

When is it on? It sounds like it might be worth checking out.

In the interest of critical counterpoint: YMMV. I've only seen a few episodes, but it wasn't enough to hold my interest. Sadly, the show tends to take itself way too seriously (I spent the first three episodes waiting for the to-me-inevitable G.I. Joe quip, but none was forthcoming), and the characters just aren't terribly likeable. Way too much testosterone ('course, I'm a geek, and most of these guys remind me of the people who tried to beat me up in high school [but couldn't 'cause I outsmarted them]). The one who's supposed to be the audience identification character is by turns cardboard and idiotic (he's military, do they really have to explain military terminology to him?), and the wives seem to be trying out for Desperate Housewives ("look how boring and inconsequential we are without our fellas around"). In general, the main themes appeared to be "look how badass we are!" "Follow orders and the good guys win." "Truth, Justice and the American Way(tm)." and "look how badass we are!"

It makes a great recruitment video, but as a show, it leaves me bored.

(I'd rather serve on an SG team than the Unit, personally. They're smarter and have more fun. And they let the girls play. )

I've never watched 'The Unit', but I'll be tuning in to see Summer
(I love seeing my BDHs getting steady work!)

Of course first we have to watch the finale of the '4400' this Sunday, I really like what they've done with Summer's character; at first it seemed like she was type cast as the crazy girl but she has gotten very interesting and kinda scary.

I can't say that I've seen this show but it is good news for Summer and a role away from sc-fi.

Anyone know what channel it is shown on in the UK???

You have to watch The Unit with a different eye than something like SG-1.

The Unit is based on the Army's 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (a.k.a. Delta Force) and is produced by a former member of the real-life unit. Many of the stories in the first season come directly from his personal experiences.

Some might see it as overtly gung-ho-go-America, but so far it's been noticeably non-political, and really it's the most accurate depiction of the lives of elite soldiers (from any country) that you'll ever see on TV drama (although Delta isn't as secret now as it's depicted on the show, it was 15 to 20 years ago).

If Jack Bauer were a real guy, this is what he'd be doing.

I'm also excited to see Summer on the show. I'm very curious to see what her character will be like.

Same at the Bad2Verse Household! Come on OCTOBER!!!!! The return of BATTLESTAR!

If Sci-Fi Had Battlestar AND Firefly they could rule the 'verse.. there'd be no need for me to EVER touch my remote control again (Especially since this is the last season, and last show, of "Deadwood")

Well.. OK, I may have to have the History Channel and the Discovery Channel also, for those times when Battlestar or Firefly wasn't on

It was on Tuesdays at 9 when it originally aired. I started watching it because it was made by the same guy who did The Shield, my second favorite show of all time, Shawn Ryan, who also helped to procude 22 episodes of Angel and wrote for 5 of them.

The plot was good enought to keep my interest through all thirteen episodes, and of course I really like Dennis Haysbert.

I am really glad to see that Summer will have a cast role on this show, I am looking forward to the next season even more now. Thanks for sharing.

I've never heard of the "The Unit" probably cause I'm English plus if it was on Sky or some digital channel I can't watch it cause I haven't got digital TV.I wish Summer all the best on her future acting rolls & hopefully playing the role of River sometime soon would be nice.Hey I wonder if Summer's got a role where she appears in more than a few episodes of the "The Unit" & she's playing a girlfriend will we finally get to see her in a sex scene(can't wait for that).
