SFX - Day One -or- 2x2 Meets The Most Beautiful Woman in the World

I went to SFX in Toronto this weekend and met Morena and Christina!!! It was amazing!

Below is my Day One experience!

I was late getting down to the convention centre, as traffic was hell, but still managed to meet with elizalavelle (from LJ) fortunately.

We went for a quick lunch and to get some money from the ATM and then headed to the Con for the advanced preview opening at 2pm for those with advance delux passes like us *G*

Looked for Angela, hat knitter extraordinare, to pick up our Jayne hats, but were sort of herded into the line up and we missed her! Looked at every pair of feet I saw for pink crocs while in the line up to try to meet up with (lj user)hjea, but didn't see them. Did see a very nice Serenity (the pilot) Kaylee costume - blue jacket, coveralls complete with teddy bear, parasol, sandles.. very very nice.

We finally got into the main area at about 2:30ish. Tickets punched, hands stamped.... Chaos! Vendors EVERYWHERE *G* Lots and lots of stuff.

But, first things first, we headed for Table L, Morena's table. She wasn't there yet, but we had the location scoped out.

Wandered around a bit, saw some interesting things here and there. Serenity autographed cards, $78 each!!! Some T-shirts, some action figures, the serenity ornament, lots of buffy stuff. And MANGA MANGA MANGA everywhere *G*

I bought an ornament which looks pretty cool! And I bought a Mal action figure *G* And we went back upstairs and found Angela and bought our Jayne hats (very cunnin’) and then the three of us headed back downstairs to start a line at Morena’s table.

There were a few people lined up already, including Heather, the Canadian Browncoats List Mom who knows people ‘in the know’ *G* After maybe half an hour or so (it’s really impossible for me to know how much time passed… time doesn’t seem to flow the same in there *G*) she was suddenly there!!!! And so was Christina Hendricks!!!!

And before I knew it… I was next to go up, and OMG I was suddenly So Nervous! I didn’t know what to say!

I went up and handed Cindy (Morena's wrangler *G*) the money for the glossy’s I wanted Morena to sign (Christina’s weren’t there yet) and all the while, I couldn’t look at her!! Then, it was time, and I looked up and she smiled at me *melts* and as I picked out which pictures I wanted her to sign, she asked if I wanted her to make them out to me *glee* So I said yes, and she asked me to spell my name…. she ended up leaving the ‘e’ off the end because Christina said something that interrupted her as she was writing, and so she didn’t hear the e part, I guess… I didn’t notice till after, but apparently it might not be uncommon (more on that later). So she signed my pictures, and I told her how I had enjoyed seeing her on SG-1. And she very sweetly said thank-you, and then Christina, all excited, says “Wasn’t she gorgeous?!” and I nod and say “Oh yeah, she was.” Then back to Morena “And I just loved your contacts!” I think Morena said “thanks” and Christina was like “Weren’t they neat! So pretty!” and I said “Yeah, they were amazing!” It was kinda funny, to be discussing Morena, with Christina Hendricks, right in front of Morena, who just signed and smiled. But Christina was just lovely!

Then I asked if I could have a photo, and got to come around the table and stand between them, put an arm around each of their waists, and… wow. Heh… Morena is *SO* tiny!!!! Her waist was just soo small and delicate in my hand, and she was warm and smelled nice :o) I have to admit, most of my attention was firmly on Morena and not Christina, but they both were very gracious when I begged a second photo from elizalavelle’s camera (6 megapixels… much better than my 2 *G*) and then I was floating away…. High as a kite *G*

I waited and took elizalavalle’s picture for her, then gathered all my gak from the friendly volunteer who’d held it for me… and we left the table area, and I was just floating and giddy and grinning and so overwhelmed from that brief contact….

Let me just say, that she is just as beautiful in person as she is on tv… it’s not makeup, it’s not lighting, it’s just her. So amazing… and Christina too! She was an absolute sweetheart! So open and friendly! Talking to her was so easy and natural! Morena was very nice too, but I sensed this small part of her that was reserved, a little bit of herself that she was definitely keeping back… not that I can blame her, but I didn’t sense that with Christina at all.

I thought I’d just end up staring at them all day, but when I was there, I didn’t want to do that to them, make them uncomfortable or anything. I didn’t even take that many pictures (none of them turned out good anyway *begs elizalavelle for copies of hers*) once I’d had my two with them…

Anyway, I ended up calling my husband to gush to him about it all while elizalavelle was getting money out of the ATM, and he laughed at how excited and giddy I was *G*

We went down to my car and I put all my stuff in the trunk and then got a drink before we headed back inside. We met up with Angela again, and her friend who was a volunteer, and they wondered when Drusilla was going to show up… We saw the lineup for Morena’s table was still going strong (poor Carson from Atlantis had barely anyone, Mini-Me neither) and saw that Christina had pictures out now, so we got back in line. I snapped some shots of Carson and Mini Me (they also didn’t turn out…I just obviously suck at photography) and some of Morena and Christina from a distance, but once we got back up there, we didn’t really feel the need to take more.

I was just as nervous as before, but went up and said “I came back,” and Morena said “I know!” and I said that I had to come back for Christina’s picture. Since she wasn’t signing, Morena took the opportunity to chat with Cindy while Christina signed – I would’ve preferred that she still paid attention to ME *G* but I can understand her taking a little break. :o) They’d been signing for around 2 hours at this point I think.

Christina said she couldn’t believe I’d stood in that line all over again, and I told he it wasn’t that long, and she signed her picture for me “Love Christina” and said “Thank-you for coming back!” with a beautiful smile.

Afterwards, we hung out for a while, and I eventually bought a Kyo hat, which is from some Anime thing, Fruits Basket, I think, but it was just too cute to pass up! It’s orange, like a fox, with little orange ears sticking up, and narrowed eyes embroidered on the front – so cute! (edit: apparently it's a cat. It's still very cute)

Then we ran into a couple of Browncoats who told us that Darkhorse had some free comics, a 20 year issue that had characters drawn by different artists, including a Joss Whedon version of Emily the Strange. So we went and got a copy of that, and some other free stuff from the table (really nice keychain!) and then decided that it was time for some food.

We headed out toward the Skydome, and just as I was contemplating getting a freshly squeezed lemonade at a stand, who walks right past us but Morena and Christina and their volunteers and wrangler!!! I think I actually choked on my words as I realized who had just walked by!

We contemplated calling to them, but they’d just finished signing for so long, and they were on their way to their hotel, so we just followed them discreetly for about twenty paces and then left them when they went up the stairs to the Skydome, but still so neat to see them! And now I know where they’re staying *G*

I got my lemonade and elizalavelle got a dipped icecream and then we were pretty much done for the day, so we parted ways and I went back to my car and headed for home.

Overall, an exhausting but very exciting day. I never did find hjea though :o( My knees are killing me from standing on the concrete floor all day, but I showed all my stuff to my husband and told him all the day’s highlights, and got to sit down for a while *G* which was nice.

Tomorrow – 9am meeting with elizalavelle and Angela for round two!

Damn!! I wanted to go! Had my Jayne shirt picked out and everything!

Had a family function though. Maybe next year.

Sounds like it was fun though. Was it busy? Closing weekend for the CNE might have impacted on it. Did you get to go to Morena's Intimate and Interactive? I was wondering if she made the same hints as I read Alan and Summer did at Dragon*con.

There is a person on another site that says:

"There was a Sci Fi/comic book convention in Toronto, Ontario this weekend, and Morena Beccarin was there, as well as the actress who played the woman who tricked Mal into marrying her (I can't remember her name). They were signing autographs, obviously, and they both said that they (both) were starting filming for the sequel to Serenity in March 2007. All I can say is: w00t."

For those people who were there, can anyone confirm this?? PLEASE!!!!!!

I've been getting some of the best news ever from the forum this week. You guys are just awesome 2x2. I knew FFfan.net had some of the best fans. I watched FF disc 2 last night with my older son. We watched OMR and Jaynestown together. It was so fun to hear him laugh at many of the Jayne lines & Mal,Wash,Book,Kaylee, heck the whole ruttin crew is funny. He is for sure turning into a browncoat even though he won't admit it (he's to cool I supose).

Anyway I am very glad that you had a good time. And telling us about it on the forum really makes me happy

Thanks a bunch,Z

I too was at the convention all weekend and each day I saw Morena and Christina on friday and sunday. Morena was alone on saturday. All I can say is they were sweet and Morena and Christina's smile made me melt. I had a grin as big as the Joker and a glow that could be seen for miles. Also, I was at the intimate and interactive session on Sunday and a fan asked about a sequel to Serenity. Morena said that there is no sequel being talked about that she knows of. She doesn't expect a sequel to happen because the movie did poorly at the box office probably due to bad marketing. But she couldn't believe how many fans of the show are out there when she attends these conventions.
BTW, I have been attending comic conventions for the last 8yrs and I have never asked or paid for a star's autograph until now. They were both beautiful women and I just couldn't resist. I can now die happily.

Thanks for the clarification. The person on the other site did not specify, he only made the statement without any kind of proof, so I wanted to ask others who had been at the same convention.

I'm thinking about this(gotta go back to the thinking thread). We know she is quite close to Joss (hence, she picked up the hugo), and we got clarification from the sunday Q&A, yet one wayward fan was claiming a sequel was on the works, and summer and alan are giving hints.

This will be fun.

I'm afraid that this is most likely not true, if we're to believe Morena. She said in her intimate and interactive that everyone had signed for three films, but she'd heard nothing of a sequel at all, and that time on thier contract was running out :o/

She also said, for anyone interested, that no one had yet approached her to offer the role of Wonder Woman, though she'd love to do it.

And, while signing an autograph for a friend who asked Christina about Flan II, Morena apparently had no idea it was happening and hadn't been invited yet!!!!

So, those of you going, you should get in touch with the organizers and tell them to get off their butts and invite Morena, becuase she seemed genuinely interested in going!!

Maybe we fans ought to take out another add in Variety, ASK MORENA ALREADY!

Saturday was INSANELY busy!!! I've never seen so many people. Friday was busy-ish, and I had expected more people on Saturday, but I just cannot describe how many people were there... it was unreal. The line up to get in was a mile long and was just there, all day long.

I did get to the I&I, but didn't get any juicy rumours about sequels... Morena said she's heard nothing... so...

But it was the best time, and hanging out with and meeting other browncoats was an awesome experience! Browncoats rock!

I didn't go to dinner and didn't really 'meet' people at all, so probably not, but there's a chance you saw me. I was one of only two people that I saw who wore a Blue Sun shirt (mine was sort of tan/khakhi colored I guess). I was there Saturday mostly in the morning... I was probably in the first 5 or 6 to get Morena's autograph that day (I figure most of the Whedonites were distracted by the shiny line for Juliet Landau that had started forming shortly before Morena showed up, which let me sneak in to Morena right when she got there). And just my luck, pretty much just as I expected, Christina showed up just about precisely as I was leaving the con completely. ;)

Yep, that was me. I was there waiting for the Marvel Civil War panel that was going to start (well, after Juliet's panel there was a Verne Troyer panel, but the line for the CW Panel started early). If I was reading a book, it was the book that starred StarPilotGrainger! ;)

Oh, damn! I should have come over! But I was timid and such, and instead just waited for those I already knew... damn...

Thanks for the reports 2x2!! I'm definitely going next time! Ruttin' family function...

As much as I dislike going into the city (well except to watch the Jays or the Leafs) this sounds like something worth going to. Never been to a "con" or Sci-fi expo before.
